I'm lost, what exactly is in the Free Comic Book Day sample? A chapter that didn't need major editing to begin with?

Keep in mind that a free "sampler" isn't necessarily indicative of how the final product will turn out... the 3-in-1's could very well be fully uncensored, or be the same edited mess with a new cover. It's too early to tell now, we'll be able to confirm more once the first 3-in-1 is out on shelves.

My predictions for now: Uncensored violence and nudity, but with the same ol' Viz translation ("Vegerot", "H-ercule", et al.) I'm hoping I'm wrong and they'll actually tweak the translation, but we'll see.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

Because it's remastered does it mean it may have the Kanzenban bits added? Doesn't a remastered book usually have things added?

Yeah, I had that thought about adding in the Kanzenban bits as well...

I'm going to guess that it just means (mostly) uncensored art and the fact that there's no DB/Z divide.

The sample contains chapter 29.

Seriously, what is it with american Dragon Ball releases and remasterings?
Remastered and in HIIIIIIGH DEFINITIOOOON....but printed in cheap paper that negates said "remastering". Sounds about right.

"Remastered" when I think of this it's either in high definition or high quality, and since this is paper then it's high quality paper that I can visualise.

Anyway, as long as it's uncensored and titled Dragon Ball from start to finish I'm more than happy to buy all volumes.

I wasn't aware but Amazon.co.uk is selling them in UK so it saves me the time from importing.

Won't pre-order just yet, as Amazon might come up with a special offer for this.

Amazon.co.uk sells most of the stuff that Amazon.com has and it has free shipping for various european countries in most products (as long as the total order is around £25). I pretty much always buy from there. You just have to be aware of possible differences regarding american and british editions in some products.

Has anyone gotten their hand on a VIZ 3-in-1 Volume #1 edition to see whenever or not they were true to this release being completely uncensored? I'm not sure whenever or not to buy this release and I only plan to consider it if they are true to their words about this being uncensored (and it's not because I want to see boobs).

I'm on the fence about pre-ordering this (especially since it's so cheap), but I don't want to give Viz money if it's still censored...

I'll have to look at their other 3-in-1's. I don't think the translations are any different. I looked through the One Piece 3-in-1 and saw that the early chapters still have their stereotypical pirate dialog (to be fair, they do away with that in later volumes). I didn't know the 3-in-1's were supposedly uncensored. If the Naruto and One Piece versions aren't, then it's a safe bet the Dragon Ball books won't be either. I know a couple panels that are censored in Naruto though, like Naruto giving Iruka the middle fingers in chapter 1. I'll have to see if that's not changed.

That is pretty cool though if all the 3-in-1's use kanzenban art.

They're advertising it as uncensored though. To quote my Dragon Ball/Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration Free Comic Book Day issue's ad for the Dragon Ball 3-in-1 format release:

"Remastered, uncensored and collected in an affordable 3-in-1 format!"

If it was censored, that would be false advertising.

Any word on if this will be released digitally? I know Viz has released Evangelion's 3-1 Editons digitally.

I'm a bit disappointed we haven't just had a like-for-like English release of the kanzenbans yet, but I'll be happy to buy these as long as they have all the colour chapters and the uncut pages, better dialogue etc.
Still, it's a bit sucky we won't get to see all the cover art as obviously there will be less volumes, but hey, that's what I ordered the Chogashu for...

Well, I doubt we'll get color pages unless Viz surprises us and reveals this is their full color release...but given those have been word for word from the original volume's translation, I wouldn't get my hopes up for a new one...then again, this is the DB portion, so maybe they've been focusing on retranslating from the beginning and have just been waiting on the Z material (impossibly high hopes obtained).

I find it both painful and simultaneously glorious to live with these kind of high hopes.
Japan got their perfect release years ago! When is our turn, you know? :(

It's always surprising to me, cause here in France, and I believe in Germany too cause that's the same publisher, we get exactly what's released in Japan (Perfect Edition "Kanzenban", TV Anime Comics, Movie Anime Comics...).
For now the only things I can think of that were published in Japan and not in France - and as pretty much the exact same - are the official guides (we only had Daizenshu 1 and 6) and recent releases (Full-Color Manga and new versions of the official guides), although it is 100% guaranteed that we'll have the Full-Color Manga eventually - and maybe, just maybe, the official guides once all the TV and Movie stories have been translated (they might want to wait until the translator has carefully gone through every possible story to translate in context before asking her to translate full encyclopedias covering the whole story, world and characters).

Anyway, it's weird, Viz is the intermediary making the link between the France/Germany publisher and Shueisha in Japan, so they are undoubtedly aware that those countries get releases that are almost copy/paste of the Japanese ones except for text and minor presentation changes on the covers.
So it's gotta be a deliberate choice of Viz, they might just think that keeping it close to the Japanese releases is not the right way to go for the US market and wouldn't satisfy that specific target audience.

And if I understood well, they didn't put all color pages even in editions including color pages, so they might not want to "waste" too much color ink on such printings.
In other words, if they already have cold feets when it comes to releasing all the originally colored pages (and there aren't many, some volume don't have any at all), how could they want to publish any edition fully-colored (Full-Color Manga and Anime Comics alike)?
Not to be pessimistic for you guys, but my bet is that if they want to release those, they'll do it digitally, it seems they don't want to print too many color pages, and certainly not full volumes of colored pages!

It sucks for me because I live in the UK, and we get next to nothing DBZ-related released over here so I'm still importing US goods anyway. I'd understand VIZ for not releasing the Kanzenbans if they didn't want to spend money on the same old series again, but releasing in imperfect version over and over seems to be an even bigger waste of money...
