Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

It's okay, everyone, you can sleep easy tonight - it has been a success! There's definitely now going to be a new 250 episode series and Toriyama will definitely resume the manga! Everyone relax!
Time to spread that on YouTube and watch the fans go nuts.
250 episodes seems a bit much, no need to write another 40 volumes exploring the other universes...
Because of the success I do expect a sequel or a saga explaining the other universes in more detail and the awakening of Bills in 3 years, and also Super Saiya-jin God Vegeta!
I'm always up for new plot content, but I wanna see the movie first; I feel I won't be able to decide exactly what I'd hope to happen (if it happens) next until I see the whole film.
If ssjg Vegeta does happen at some point in the future, I really liked the idea that his ssjg form would be blue. I don't remember who came up with the idea or who posted some fanart of it, but I do like ssjg doing a "different color-scheme for each person" thing; it breaks up the monotony that all that gold ssj hair can bring.

Then you may be waiting in expectation for a long time!
It's unlikely Toei will produce another series at this time. Their resources are currently divided between producing two shows that broadcast on a weekly basis: One Piece and Toriko. The economic conditions, Dragonball Kai's rather unenthusiastic broadcast reception, and the fact that Toei's 'Dream 9' broadcast block is already spoken for means the relative merits of producing another series at this time are few. If Toei were to decide to stop producing One Piece or Toriko then it would be a possibility, but the popularity of the former and the success of the manga of the latter makes that appear unlikely.
Another movie, however, is less of a likelihood and more of an inevitability. Toriyama will almost certainly have some involvement in it, too, as Toei's recent trend of producing theatrical releases that involve the original series author and are an 'official' part of the series continuity have certainly paid off in regard to box office dividends.
It's just a case of 'when'.
'Multiculturalism means nothing in Japan, for every outside culture must pass first through the Japanese filter, rendering it entirely Japanese in the process.' - Julian Cope.
This '250 episodes' thing always sounds so silly to me now that I'm educated a bit in the ways of the animation industry. A thirteen or twenty-six episode series would be better because it means a higher likelihood of having a higher production budget with better staff. Of course, Toei Animation doesn't seem to really do those sorts of shows anymore, so I guess it's a moot point. Unless you're Pretty Cure.

I wonder why it hasn't been posted on the site as news. I mean, reaching that goal is pretty important. Maybe Mike just forgot about it or he doesn't find the sources that announced it trustworthy? Or has it been posted and I'm just blind?

All the site updates regarding the figures have used Cinema Today as a source. It is still possible it just missed the goal.
Even if they missed the goal, it wasn't by much. In general, the movie did pretty good considering the circumstances. Even if they don't make a new series, they should at least consider making another movie.

I think so too, while some other's are like "no red is the only thing that can logically work as SSJG is only red"
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!
Spoiler:
Doctor. wrote:I've explained before, I'll just paraphrase myself.
Power levels establish tension and drama. People who care about them (well, people who care about them in a narrative) don't care about the big numbers or the fancy explosions. If you have character A who's so much above character B, who's the main character, you're gonna be left wondering how in the hell character B, the character we're supposed to care and root for, is going to escape the situation or overcome the odds. It makes us emotionally invested.
If character B doesn't escape the situation in a believable way that's consistent with previous events, then that emotional investment is gone. It was pointless tension, pointless drama made just to suck in the viewer. It has no critical value whatsoever. The audience is left believing that the author can just create whatever scenarios he wants and what happens to the characters is decided by whatever the author wants to happen, regardless of the events that happened in the story. Which, in fairness, is what happens, but the audience wants to be fooled. The audience wants to know that the world they're following has rules. That the world they're invested in isn't going to bend to external factors that are irrelevant to them.
An author can do whatever he wants with the characters, that's not false. But the author should also have the responsibility to make sure it fits in cohesively with the other events in the narrative he has created.
Wow, the way the camera zooms through space after the title card really reminds me of the prologue to Dragon Ball Evolution. Must've been the colour scheme they used.
The visuals in this film are quite strange at some points, particularly with the amount of CG that they used. I'm guessing the initial shots of Beerus's temple in the trailer aren't in the actual film and are replaced by the quasi CG zooms and pans that I saw.

And then, the 5 Super Saiyan Gods (Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Goten, Trunks) will be like the Power Rangers... No thanks.

James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Nah, I stumbled upon some clips that were included in a video of a guy going to the theatre to see the film. I had no idea that they were included in the video. Funny how you find some of these things.
Anyway, here's an interesting video. I assume it's a summary of the film, but with some pretty neat visuals: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0K62I6mCa0Q
Was quite amused by it...I assume there's a whole range of these videos for other movies.

What would make Cinema Today a more accurate source?

Agreed. In fact i would like goku to remain the only super saiyan god in his universe. He was already a god for me before this move came out and I think he deserves a transformation only for him.
Even though in a way, I want to see the prince shine more and reach that form too, that is my first choice.
I dont want that "legendary" form be reached by gohan, goten or trunks/gotenks. And I think they should make that form have one more special requirement to be achieved. Like "you have to be a full blooded saiyan to reach it" That way, would prevent the others from reach it.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Yup, because multiple colors equals power rangers...

I would actually love that. Power Rangers and Super Sentai are awesome.

If they plan to do a sequel or another movie then I wonder when we will start hearing info for it. 2014 is Dragon Ball's 30th anniversary and it would be nice if they give us something special next year.
