Re: Does it bother you when people use dub lines?
I'm not saying it's bad to enjoy the original names or to expect good grammar and spelling - which I don't call that one petty at all, I like that that gets enforced here - but I just fail to see how it would be so bad if people were allowed to type the names they know. It's clear that most know what they mean if they know to direct vitriol towards it, and this site is original-version-oriented enough that few people would use the names anyway probably - so I just don't get why it's such a bad thing, or why some feel the need to flip out if they see a dub name being mentioned. That's all I'm saying.

Yeah. I'm surprised no one complain about someone saying King PiccoloGyt Kaliba wrote:I'm not saying it's bad to enjoy the original names or to expect good grammar and spelling - which I don't call that one petty at all, I like that that gets enforced here - but I just fail to see how it would be so bad if people were allowed to type the names they know. How many people are flipping out? Usually I see polite correction if anything.
Expecting good grammar and spelling isn't petty. It is really annoying to read posts that are unintelligible. It makes things harder than they need to be (that's what she said). Plus, if you make a good effort to write a proper sentence, I don't think the mods are going to bust you.

"Unfortunately"? The airy, French "Jero" ("Gerauix"?) is so nice to the ear. If it's better, it's forgiven.dbboxkaifan wrote:Unfortunately, no. He's still Jero.Hellspawn28 wrote:I don't think they got the pronunciation of Dr. Gero right in Kai IIRC?

Except it misses the joke. Gero is the Japanese equivalent to "Ribbet"

So does that mean he should be called "Dr Ribbit"? And I always thought it was "kero".

Playing Devil's Advocate here, I can understand keeping names the way they're supposed to be, but how are people who don't speak Japanese supposed to get Japanese puns? I wouldn't expect Japanese viewers of an imported English cartoon to get English puns which are unrecognizable to their own language.ABED wrote:Except it misses the joke. Puns are jokes and if you explain the joke: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ddp1pf_MB8jpdbzrulz4sure wrote: That's what things like trivias and guidebooks are for.

Regardless of whether people get the pun, it's how you pronounce his name. Plus it's not like it's that funny even if you know the joke.

Aye, it is one of my fan fiction pet peeves. It comes in a close second to using dub-only facts as actual, canonical facts.

In the dub, Crane Hermit give an internal monologue where he talks about how he and Tao Pai Pai were on the outs before his death, and some sites report that as fact.

Disliking the dub dialog does not make someone a weeaboo.DarkPrince_92 wrote:I feel like only the crowd on this forums, and the weeaboos, actually give a shit about using the dub as reference for anything.

Technically, the correct way to pronnounce Saiyan would be closer to "scion" because the first two syllables are sigh-yaw, not say-un.
Wait wait...let me try this.
Frieza. Tien. Hercule.
if the above line features the word Tenshinhan now, then mega hugs to this website and its administrators.

Well, king is part of his original name (the -ou part) but yes I would prefer if people at least didn't omit "great demon" even if they don't feel like saying Daimaou.TheGmGoken wrote:Yeah. It kinda irks me but only because they use King offhand a lot from memory. Or 'Super'.Yeah. I'm surprised no one complain about someone saying King Piccolo
It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.
Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.

Re: Does it bother you when people use dub lines?
I mean they use the titles 'Super' or 'King' from memory a lot.
Such as...
King Vegeta
King Piccolo
Demon King Dabura ( I think they used this title once)
King Yemma
King Furry (apparently that's what that Dog King is called in the dub- forgot his name in Japanese)
King Chapa
King Cold
Ox King
King Kai
Super Saiyan
Super #17
Super Boo
Super Vegetto
Super Vegeta
Super Namek
Super Yi Xing Long
Actually the Japanese version does use 'Super' a lot too...now that I think about it.

Re: Does it bother you when people use dub lines?
Dragon Ball's king is just called "the King" he doesn't have a name. Plus, most of the names you mentioned are legit names. King Vegeta is in fact King Vegeta.
