Not buying it. Looks like it's time for me to go back to studying Japanese to get the Kanzenban.
You'd really go through the trouble of learning Japanese just so you could see Bulma's breasts?
For your information, I don't care about whenever or not Bulma's breast is shown or not. I'm not going to throw a fit over censorships as long as the contents is not messed with.

The reason why I have a problem with us already seeing censorship is that not only are we getting a horrible paper with see-through paper, but that Viz has lied to the fans about this being an uncensored release. That means that they're going to go through the manga without color paper and the same censorship in the previous English editions.

I won't put up with Viz lying to their fans about this being an uncensored release and I am going to get my Dragon Ball manga fix. If that means learning another language, so be it. It's not like I'm only doing it for one manga, far, far from it.

Uh, they didn't lie. They mentioned this on twitter and I quoted it below:
Mewzard wrote:Viz confirmed it was a mistake in printing. They were MEANT to be uncensored and will be fixed in the reprint.

Tetsuyama Minato ‏@KyuubiMinato 3h

@VIZMedia The unedited and uncensored Dragon Ball 3-in-1, why is it CENSORED and same inconsistent translation? Unworthy of Kanzenban covers

VIZ Media ‏@VIZMedia 55m

@KyuubiMinato Sorry about that. We removed the censorship on most panels, but there are 3 pages that slipped by. We'll fix it on reprint
It wasn't a lie, it was an accident.

It's not the censorship that has me annoyed. It's the fact that it actually says it's uncut right on the product when it isn't!

Holy crap, it does. Somehow I missed that vital piece of information. All this time I thought we were just getting this whole business about the novels being uncut from that Twitter page.

It is weird how they 'miss' these things though. I guess they're just using the exact pages from the old releases, and then only re-inserting text into the speech bubbles of clean uncut manga panels wherever their censorship appears--and replacing them with the newly uncensored ones. They must not have clean, uncensored pages with their redrawn sound effects, and to avoid doing that sort of art work/editing/translating all over again for the whole series they're just 'de-censoring' their old stuff instead--or trying to anyway. That just seems like a strange and unreliable way to go about doing things though in my opinion. There are so many little (and sometimes admittedly unnoticeable) edits that they've made throughout the whole series that they can easily miss a censored page...which is exactly what's happened.

Seems to me that a company as big as VIZ (they basically are the manga industry in the U.S) should be able to rework a release from the ground up if they have to. And with something of this magnitude, a newly released 'uncut and uncensored' version of the manga, you think they would put a little more effort into making sure it's done right instead of lazily de-censoring their old releases.

If they actually do stand by their word, and release the rest of the 3-in-1's uncut (and reprint this first novel), then might this be a change in the way the company does things as a whole? Since they've gone digital, their weekly releases are totally uncensored. (except for Popo's mouth in the colored DBZ). And maybe they're in the process of going back to uncut manga with their graphic novels too... Only time will tell.

Why beforehand? Do you prefer the censored version?
I prefer Dragon Ball without a nude under-aged girl.
She isn't under-age.

Well, good to see Viz are admitting that they are in the wrong. Hopefully this is an actual mistake and not them realising they can't pull one over on obsessive internet fans.:P Actually curious to see how big this print run is and how long the issue takes to get fixed.

So they said they missed 3 pages, and fixed other things? Can anybody please tell me where, or how many times the VizBig was censored compared to the first 3 volumes of the Japanese Tankoubon? Everything I've looked at so far in the 3-in-1 has been the exact same as the VizBig, so I want to see what they have fixed.

Here's 4 pages of censorship.

This is Vizs uncensored version.

Perhaps they're only aware of 3. If they are legitimately missing more, please tell them. I'd love to see this line as uncensored as possible.

Well I'm still gonna stick with my Viz Bigs and just hope that eventually we will get a proper Kanzenban release.

You seem to have a lot of problems with how the series was meant to be seen, both in the manga and anime. Although I accept everyone has their own opinion on things, I don't understand how you can be so offended by a bit of nudity - it's the human body and not even a real one at that.

Well this is all pretty disappointing...
I had real high hopes for this release and was quite looking forward to the idea of owning an English release wrapped in the beautiful Kanzenban artwork.
Looks like I'll get back onto collecting the remaining VizBigs. Not a huge fan of the cover art but at least there's the high paper quality and at least some colour chapters.
Really hoping Viz gets it right one day, though...

Here's hoping it was just an honest error and they can fix it in the reprints, for those who actually still want these. I still think that the paper quality would make it more of a break for me than anything else, but it would be comforting to know that a fully uncut release was made available at some point anyway...and with any luck, they'd eventually reprint a higher quality release of that as well.

I don't understand why you, and everyone else for that matter, find that strange that he has his own personal preferences. If he prefers it that way, so be it. It's not really everyone's problem, so just leave that be. Whether everyone likes one way or another, it's their problem. I, for one, am favoring manga censorship over uncut.

Let's not get into it before it became an argument.

There is no need to target me, I just want to know why Zenkai cares about a bit of nudity - just an explanation. As I said, even if I don't agree, I respect other people's opinion, but it is perfectly reasonable to wonder why he believe this. If anything, you are the one potentially starting an argument; another one about people's opinions and how they should be respected. All I was looking for was a reason as to why Zenkai is against simple nudity - whether this be because of religious beliefs or how he was raised.

Maybe I could of worded it better and been slightly less confrontational, but I was trying to put my views into my question.

Surely this release contained dozens of small edits that aren't present in the kanzenbans? Or are the many that have ben fixed and only a few that haven't? They had better make it completely uncensored next time, or it'll be clear that they left it censored intentionally.

What about the censored dialogue? Didn't they replace "panties" in the early tankibons with "undies" in all later releases, for example?

I'm not sure. I've only got the first 9 volumes uncensored. But I guess 'undies' is really the same thing, even if it sounds a little more kiddy. As long as the pervy jokes themselves are in tact, whereas they're edited out of the Dragon Ball anime dub, and the picture is uncensored, then I'll be content.

"Panties" wasn't the best example, but I know certain bits of dialogue have changed from one release to the next in the name of censorship.
