Re: The Chōzenshū databook thread: speculation, discussion,
Hmm... thanks for the advice. You're probably right; they probably just sold through their current stock on hand. I mean, the Chogashu's only been out a month or so... I may just wait for CDJapan to get more copies in if they can. I refuse to pay more than $70 for it, and the rest of these services just don't seem as good as CDJapan, Play-Asia, or YesAsia. And I realllly don't want to pay the scalper prices on Ebay.SSJ_Catacomb wrote:There's no way that it's already gone Out-of-Print on a permanent basis. It hasn't exactly been on sale for a vast amount of time, so I'm sure a few more batches will crop up in the coming weeks. Saying that, money has been tight recently and I really put off getting the Chozenshuus and the Chogashu, but I just barely secured my copy of the latter before CD Japan changed the listing. Noticed that the first Chozenshu had gone out of print too, so I ended up resorting to paying a little more than I'd like to on eBay. Anyway, now I've committed to buying them all I should definitely get a move on ordering the rest of them... But I won't have the money for about another week, so fingers-crossed volumes 2-4 are still available!the original ero-sennin wrote:The same thing just happened to me. Bummer. ^ Aaaah, seeing just that picture makes me eager to have mine (it shipped a few days ago).
I already have the first Daizenshu, so I will discover how they reorganized those pictures I already knew, and discover a ton of new pictures I didn't know (among those published after the first Daizenshu).
Little trivia stuff: it seems one picture was censored in the French edition of the first Daizenshu back then, so I'll have it uncensored with the Chogashu. Luckily, all other pictures were left totally untouched!!
I'll let you guys guess what was the picture that needed to be tweaked (I've never seen the original, it's just an asumption, but the way it's done, it REALLY seems like something that wasn't part of the original picture and was a quick censorship edit)!
The manga was never censored in France despite going much further, so this decision about that Daizenshu picture was probably taken because it was believed the artbook could also appeal to anime fans - and those were used to the heavily censored stuff back then, so...

Re: The Chōzenshū databook thread: speculation, discussion,
Is it Kame Sen'nin's picture of Bulma in the bathtub from 1987? In an overview of "Le Grand Livre de Dragon Ball" it seems like she is wearing a bra while in my Chozenshu she only has the tan lines of someone who sunbathed with a bra on.Cold Skin wrote: I'll let you guys guess what was the picture that needed to be tweaked (I've never seen the original, it's just an asumption, but the way it's done, it REALLY seems like something that wasn't part of the original picture and was a quick censorship edit)!
EDIT: Found a picture of that page in the web and it seems it's not that one.

Just for the record, YesAsia's Chogashu listing says "temporarily out of stock", and they have a free E-mail Reminder service which notifies you when that item come back in stock. So I went ahead and put myself on the notification list. http://www.yesasia.com/us/dragon-ball-s ... /info.html
If you still want the item, and didn't jump on it right away, this is a pretty good option.

I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

Re: The Chōzenshū databook thread: speculation, discussion,
I received my Chozenshu #4 and Chogashu today (finally), and I'm equally happy with both books. The new pieces in the Chogashu are great to finally see in-person. Chozenshu #4, while significantly lacking in images compared to the previous volumes and focusing much more on text, is just as amazing. There is actually a lot of concept/production sketches for the anime exclusive material in the book that I don't remember seeing elsewhere. Those from GT are the ones I'm most interested in, like Bihe, Planet Tsufru/Plant, Bluma's tower that she dispenses the Bruits Waves from, Pital, Sugoroku Space, etc. I don't own the GT Perfect Files (though I'm willing to buy 'em if anyone here ever decides to offer them up, mint and cheap), so I don't know if those books contained them or not, but still interesting to see.

Or maybe I'm wrong and the original picture is like this, but that would be surprising: Toriyama never shied away from showing Bulma's full breasts (and on that picture they're hidden by her arm), a girl rarely takes a bath with a bra as far as I know, and the thing really seems like they colored the skin like a quick edit to make it look like she's wearing a bra.
Here's the picture I always assumed was censored - luckily the only one they edited -, but maybe I was wrong all along, maybe the original Japanese is like this too (but I don't think so):

That explains why you can see the "near-neck bones" when they would be hidden by the bra if she was wearing one drawn by Toriyama (I always thought it was a bra, and since it seemed like something without relief - on the very same level than the skin, without borders, and with the bones appearing - it seemed like poorly "painted over", quickly added bra).
It's the first time I do see tan lines in a manga, it never even occured to me that manga artists could bother about such a level of details like "before that she's been sunbathing a lot, and since she was obviously wearing a bra, I'll give her tan lines", which is likely why the idea of tan lines on that picture never even popped in my mind for about 20 years (that and the fact that sometimes, poorly-edited added shorts in some US anime version do look like quickly painted-over underwear without actual texture)!

It's safe to assume as SSJ_Catacomb said, the Chōgashū will probably "crop up in the coming weeks". Why they replied in Japanese? That's for another thread.Google Translate wrote:But, we are currently out of stock, will be ordered from the publisher.

Re: The Chōzenshū databook thread: speculation, discussion,
My Chogashu arrived today and it's GORGEOUS! The paper is so thick!! The whole thing feels really solid and great. Even thought I have several Toriyama art books, there were a lot of things I'd never seen before. Love it.
Re: The Chōzenshū databook thread: speculation, discussion,
Okay, I'm unsure about getting the Chogashu because it's in Japanese. Is there any chance of an English release? We got the Daizenshuu... I may just go for it though to avoid missing out, it looks so beautiful...

Yeah, just the first one, but that's an art book, like the Chogashu, so I thought maybe... possibly... hopefully...
Re: The Chōzenshū databook thread: speculation, discussion,
Mine arrived on Saturday, I'm pleased with it, but what fucked me is the price, the shipping cost the same price as the bleeding book! I ended up paying like about £48 in total, it's a really nice book, and a must have, but I guess the pages could have been a bit bigger, seeing as it has loads of pages it's tough to fully open up the book in the center to see the complete image of the double page pictures, and I don't wanna stretch it out so if it were a big bigger it would have been awesome, some of the images are so small and all but oh well.
