That's good news for fans of this particular dub; it seems to offer a more complete package and presentation than the original Pioneer/Geneon releases.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

I don't remember those. The VHS and DVDs had eyecatches for the Saiyan arc, but all they were were the japanese ones but instead of a white background, it flashed different colors like yellow and green.BluezaBladeNZ wrote:Though he never got an answer about the eyecatchs (Where Goku says "We'll be right back." and "And now back to our show.").

It might just have been on the TV broadcast.

Maybe during the namek arc, or maybe even for your market (I'm ignorant about how syndication works), but I don't remember them. It's been so long ago, but what I do remember are the eyecatches during the Saiyan arc and being surprised by them being on the VHS's.KingofWisdom wrote:It might just have been on the TV broadcast.

PowerAnime have the set up though they're using the old artwork. But they have it priced at $90. Doubt anyone is getting form them with Rightstuf having it for $30 less. I'm guessing Amazon will match Rightstuf, they have it up soon, hopefully.

This isn't the original but it shows roughly how it went. It's a remaster I made using the Orange Bricks/Steelbook and my CN recording a few years back: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_95uYDiUTIABED wrote:I don't remember those. I did have the original uploaded on my Ocean Dub release comparison page but it was via Megaupload so it's long gone. I'll see if I can get it reuploaded.
EDIT: Never mind. I found my original recording on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExAqZhVVoEc

They also have a sentence that says "The original Canadian voice cast can only be found on this release.", not remembering that there have been old DVD Releases for this, IIRC.Solidus wrote:PowerAnime have the set up though they're using the old artwork. With syndicated cartoons, if they're kept on a dvd release depends on what company released them, or if it's cared about. Transformers, G.I. Joe, Jem, and both Voltrons have the "we'll be back/now back to..." eyecatches on their dvds, but He-Man, She-Ra, Thundercats and TMNT don't.ABED wrote:Maybe during the namek arc, or maybe even for your market (I'm ignorant about how syndication works), but I don't remember them. On another note, thought I'd ask, what did you guys think of the music that was for the first 2 seasons done by Levy/Saban and I think Ron Wasserman as well? Would you call it ok, or would you say you preferred the music they did on other Saban shows, or the stuff Levy and Saban did for Dic and Filmation back in the 80s?

I enjoyed the music, especially the piece that plays when Goku arrives on Earth to fight the Saiyans, and when arrives on Namek. I find it quite beautiful.

Re: Listing for "Ocean Dub"-specific DBZ in July
Just found out about this release.
Are there really that many Ocean Dub nostalgia fans that would get this? I'd imagine FUNi already covered the Toonami audience with the orange bricks and the hardcore japanese fans with the Dragonboxes.. I don't see a big audience for this one. Especially when it's not even the complete series and it's edited.
I don't know what they're gonna do after this. When they gotta release the edited Ocean Dub version of the show aimed strictly at nostalgia fans, you know they're running out of niches.

It's one of few anime replacement scores that I found passable.Super Sonic wrote:On another note, thought I'd ask, what did you guys think of the music that was for the first 2 seasons done by Levy/Saban and I think Ron Wasserman as well?

I wonder if they'll use the first versions of the first few episodes.
You know the ones with lines like "I smell death in the air" that were re-dubbed for the home release and re-runs.

In regards to Transformers and G.I. Joe, at least, the inclusion of the bumpers wasn't solely inspired by the concept of presenting a "complete" exhibition, rather there are numerous examples where the background music bleeds into the bumpers so they were retained so there wouldn't be any distracting edits. Another Shout! Factory set which includes the original bumpers is M.A.S.K.Super Sonic wrote:With syndicated cartoons, if they're kept on a dvd release depends on what company released them, or if it's cared about. Re: Listing for "Ocean Dub"-specific DBZ in July
Things I'd LOVE to see on a release like this, knowing full-well it won't happen:
-Interviews with random Ocean voice actors.
-Interview with Haim Saban or Shuki Levy.
-If anyone from that department is still around (or even remembers), interview with someone who was key in deciding what to edit. Erasing Gohan's tears from episode 2, for example, still baffles me.
-Multiple language tracks so we can get both "versions" of English dialog in the first three or four episodes.
-A selection of random, separate clips utilizing the dub dialog over the Japanese soundtrack. Or conversely, some clips of the Japanese version with Shuki Levy music, just for fun.
-If FUNi's old records are detailed enough, a *TRUE* and accurate voice actor credits database.
On that last note, I wonder if every episode will simply be a "rip" from their old TV tapes, right down to the original English closing credits, with no alterations whatsoever. Or if they will "retype" the credits so they can include who worked on this set. If they do retype the credits, I wonder if they could match the actors with whom they played.

Re: Listing for "Ocean Dub"-specific DBZ in July
Interviews will just be Ocean cast members plugging MLP: FIM and footage of Brian Drummond camped out at Funimation HQ, having never left from his recording session for the Black Lagoon: Roberta's Blood Trail OVA.
"Mr. Drummond, we didn't actually need you in the studio."
"Shut up! I live here now. I have to. I can't even go to the gym anymore!"
"What does that even mean?"
"It means shut your face, Sabat!"

Amazon have it listed now. They are selling it for $70. Funnily enough they have Justin Cook and Chris Sabat credited as actors.

Cool, but they could still drop the price by the release date as they often do.

Yea, I was thinking the same thing. They don't have the boxart image up yet either so they could very well do that.ABED wrote:Cool, but they could still drop the price by the release date as they often do.
Re: Listing for "Ocean Dub"-specific DBZ in July
Online stores' actor credits for TV series releases are notoriously unreliable, since they just pull a couple names from IMDB's entry on the series as a whole, with no regards for whether said actors appear in that specific set, or even did any work on any of the audio tracks present on said set at all.Solidus wrote:Amazon have it listed now.
