Listing for "Ocean Dub"-specific DBZ: "Rock the Dragon" Set

Just found out about this release.

Are there really that many Ocean Dub nostalgia fans that would get this? I'd imagine FUNi already covered the Toonami audience with the orange bricks and the hardcore japanese fans with the Dragonboxes.. I don't see a big audience for this one. Especially when it's not even the complete series and it's edited.

I don't know what they're gonna do after this. When they gotta release the edited Ocean Dub version of the show aimed strictly at nostalgia fans, you know they're running out of niches.

I wish people would stop saying this, it's not about nostalgia for everyone. I actually prefer the Ocean dub over anything that Funimation has done, that is why i will get it, it's got nothing to do with nostalgia.

I agree and disagree. even though I already have the older releases, I'll still end up getting this because it's another one of those Dragonball things and not for nostalgia's sake. I like the Funimation voice actors and the Ocean actors about the same really there are some exceptions here and there. I love brian drummond's Vegeta! Probably not as they're leaving it intact, I guess. Probably the best way to go for, or they'd need to add Japanese audio + English subs, or FUNimation English voices for the missing censored parts. No one wants the FUNimation English voices in this (Schemmel, Sabat, etc).

Because it'd either be that or go through the trouble of bringing back whatever actors they can from the Ocean Studios and soundalikes for the many who they can't get back.

Interviews will just be Ocean cast members plugging MLP: FIM and footage of Brian Drummond camped out at Funimation HQ, having never left from his recording session for the Black Lagoon: Roberta's Blood Trail OVA.

Even with the original voice actors an Ocean Dub Uncut would still be inconsistent because the voices for the uncensored parts are brand new so it would differentiate from the past acting.

This is probably profitable for them strictly because it's such a low cost/overhead release. Dump masteres onto DVD, make nice packaging, make a little booklet, done.

One thing to actually ask about is if the boxset will include both the TV version and the uncut version of Tree of Might. And if it has that, if they'll have the NEPs/etc. (Reminds me, I need to record those for you guys at some point.)

It's also heavily implied it's just the home release movie 3. It says 53 episodes and 3 movies. If the TV version was there, it would be 56 episodes and 3 movies.

Yeah, well, I'm one of the unlucky ones that didn't get the Ocean Dub back when it was released. I only have the Dead Zone on VHS... and yeah, it is VHS! I need this.

I don't support downloading it as I support the Ocean dub! Makes sense for me to get this release.

Haha, I'm not sure what this has to do with my comment? I'm not condemning the release in the slightest in my post; I'm way happy they're putting it out in fact. The current DVDs which exist right now are pretty bad and I'm sure the quality on these will be a lot nicer.

I'm just saying that it's primarily coming out because it's very easy for them to produce and make some profit off of it.

One of the reasons I'd like someone to ask is so maybe we can get them to throw both versions of that onto the DVD, because, yeah, it's pretty obvious they're probably not there currently. If for no other reason than they probably don't remember it exists. I like the TV version of the dub more, though, because the acting is in my opinion better.

Also, masteres? What the hell is going on with my fingers.

To each his own, but for me, even if the acting was somewhat better, it's negated by the butchered scripts.

Though, I am more nostalgic for the TV version, and it would make me more likely to pick this up. Even though it has all of the previews, I can't see myself spending $60 when I only need to spend $15 to get the last few single DVDs I need.
