Funi Dragon Boxes - bad package

Post by coola » Thu Jun 06, 2013 3:54 pm

Hello
Excluding audio/video quality (Beside original broadcast) What was one of greatest things about Japanese Dragon Boxes? It`s package, giving it very special, limited edition look, unfortunately, i cannot say the same for Funi Dragon Boxes, almost every box that came to me, had some damaged discs, fortunately, good discs were sent immedately, at first, i thought it was because i was unlucky, but, from what i read, plenty of users had some problems with DBoxes, it make me wonder, for such limited release, package was very badly designed, DVDs often were flying inside box, Boxes itself got damaged easily. Funimation always made good boxsets, so what happened here?

I thought it had a great design, and maybe I was just lucky, but not one of my boxes had a problem.

Huh, I never had a single issue with any of the seven boxes. *shrug*

Mine was all good, but I know what you mean. Here's the deal, you're getting over 40 episodes with very well made disc books and a very well made Dragon Book...and what was MSRP? Like $50? Less? So that's what happened.

Same. except for 1 of my boxes (I can't remember which one at the moment) but it was kinda rough at the side corner at the top but other than that everything has been perfect.
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

Looks like i was just unlucky then, because almost every box that came, had problem with holding discs.

That's absolutely an issue with the Japanese ones as well.

Have you actually seen a Japanese Dragonbox, or are you just going off heresay here?

One of my first FUNimation DBox sets had a scuffed disc too. It was unacceptably bad. I got it new from Amazon and had to return it to them. I have had scuffs on other blue brick and DBox discs, but none of them were as bad as the damage on that first really bad one. My new DB season 4 set had a ring of BAD scuffs around the outer edge of the last disc, and I almost returned it until I realized there are only two episodes on that disc, so no data was burned that far out on it. Because of that, the episodes play flawlessly. (Does that make sense?)

Besides scuffing, most of the discs from my new DBoxes and blue bricks have arrived with an abnormal amount of dust/debris on them, and I think this is the reason why my computer does not play DVDs properly anymore. Now I wipe down any new Dragon Ball DVDs I get. I don't think I've ever had this problem with other DVDs.

Everything is fine but hate the dvd holders themselves... those push button release containers are horrible!
Just find a multi Blu-ray case that has 12 slots and you should be able to get away with 4 plus you'll have a better case for the disks.

Wasn't even a fan of the original dbox containers...

I have 4 dboxes and one came damaged. It looked like it was dented by the storage shelves... :eh: :|

I don't really have any problems with mine. Except, whenever I took off the back-thing (with the Dragon Box synopsis) it peeled off a spot on the back of one of my boxes. It's a white paper spot where it should be yellow, the glue was on too good. :(

Anyway, I think the sets themselves are pretty well made. The boxes are pretty thin so I can easily see how some people might be unfortunate enough to get a dented box. I'm lucky enough to have all mine in pretty good shape though. The DVD holders are great imo. Almost everything about the sets are pretty high quality and they look just like the Japanese boxes.

My Dbox's are on a shelf in front of my bed and this morning I woke up, looked at my Dragonbox's and thought "that extra tall 7th box looks really annoying."

I got a bent DBox but it didn't bother me too much BUT...

These annoy me most. One broke and now I have to place the disc in a certain way otherwise it'll fly out and scratch easy...
It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.

Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.

I kind of hate the FUNimation Dragon Box packaging it's just so poorly made and the paper's badly glued sometimes. It's as if they were in a rush. The DVD holders are the worst, though.

I'd have preferred this kind of packaging a million times:

Image

I can't find a pic of FUNimation's Dragon Ball GT: Complete Series which is packaged in the same way as this is.

Dunno what's the specific name but at least this packaging allows each disc to have their own set of space and feels a lot better. Now that I think of it, the FUNimation Dragon Box packaging is similar to bootleg packaging. :P
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:

All of my Dragon Boxes (1-7) are still sealed... I'm nervous now. I hope none of the discs have fallen out!

I checked them again last night, and it doesn't sound like anything is loose. However, they do make a "squeaking / creeking" noise if I turn the boxes from a vertical to horizontal position (If that makes sense). I thought it may be the discs slightly turning in the holder. Do the dragon books or DVD cases move at all in the actual box itself?

Maybe I should open them? Guess it wouldn't do much good now, seeing how old they are :S

Best thing to do is just buy a muli disk case (the flipable kind) and place them in there, and they have better containers to.

While I do like the "fancy" look and feel of the Dbox's I also don't like how vulnerable they seem. It's like I'm always having to take extra care of them to make sure the paint doesn't get scratched or something. Plastic DVD cases may look more tacky but they're also more durable. Personally I think the Australian and New Zealand packaging for the season sets is the perfect packaging.

Yeah...I actually really love the packaging for the most part, but I agree with this. I accidentally scratched two of my boxes last night with my fingernail because I was clumsy and sleepy. That paint on the inner books realllly comes off easy.

I've never had a disc come out of the holder though. The scuffed ones I had must have been mishandled in the factory.

Is that the Fat DVD Packs? It does feel cheap and not much effort put into it but at least the discs are attached to its place so they're not one above the other or such.
