That trailer sure hits you right in the nostalgia I must say! It might even make me consider getting this collectors set if I can find a reasonable price.

Don Brown has always been one of my favs in Movie 1. He absolutely nails Garlic Jr. in his own way that differs from Akira Kamiya's take, but keeps the character in tact. Actually that whole cast (sans a few characters like Roshi) have always been my preference for the English dub.

I also found Paul Dobson's villainous, over-the-top Dr. Wheelo to be much more interesting than R. Bruce Elliot's version. Not to take away from Elliot as a voice actor (I think he's great), but his Wheelo was really dull in comparison. Plus the sound engineer made his voice way to processed, which might have hindered his take in the long run.

I've also found myself a bigger fan of Ocean's Oolong, whoever that was, in recent years. It's just a lot closer to Tatsuta's take in Japanese than I've ever heard in any other dub, and since I really enjoyed Tatsuta, that's a good thing. It just leaves me wondering at what point everything else decided Oolong had to sound like a chain smoker though...

Yeah, don't get me wrong - I think Elliot is a great actor. I enjoy him in Case Closed, and for Ginyu in Kai, and the other things I've heard him in (though no other major roles come to mind...oh wait, the one samurai in Samurai 7!), but his Wheelo just didn't work for me. The processing could be a major part of it though, yeah. Sometimes it was almost hard to understand him.

Make sure you pick Movies and then the 360p mp4 file.
Still no luck. I guess it's just my crappy computer :(

Hmm... that's strange. My file size is 8.61 MB and I'm using VLC player. I'm not sure what else you could do, maybe try the other file formats or this. If you at least get the converter to work for mp3 you could play the video and audio at the same time. I tried the mp3 (not fast) converted file and it works for me.

Or you could use VLC to play the video since VLC can play almost any media file you throw at it.
If anyone has any of the DB/DBZ/DBGT or Maho Tsuaki Sally Japanese single DVD's that they'd be interested in selling send me a PM and I'll see if we can work something out. ;).

Thanks that did the trick :D.

Wow now that was an epic trailer. I'll be importing this without a doubt as soon as possible when it's released. And I'm certain Levi's music plays in the Tree of Might scene.

That trailer was pretty nice. It's nice hearing the Ocean voice actor for Garlic Jr again for the first time in over a decade. Dead Zone was the first DBZ movie I saw as a kid and I saw the dub with the Ocean voice cast back in 2001 on Cartoon Network. This along with the Ultra Q dvd and Otakon is going to hurt my bank account this August  .

No prob, glad it worked out for you. That does sound like Levi's music in that Tree of Might clip. That was a good trailer though, good to see them put a good bit of effort trying to emphasis that it's a nostalgia release.

As soon as I saw the trailer I yelled "Kaio-Ken times 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" God that takes me back.... So Funi is releasing a DBZ set filled with edits amongest its thousands upon thousands of Uncut DBZ box sets?
Baically I'm paying money for a different voice cast and 90's edits?

Why would this set be edited? :P I thought they re-dubbing some lines and such? I'm just guessing but I think it'll be uncut. :?

The news front page of the website says and quote "The set is slated to contain the original 53 episodes of FUNimation’s edited English dub produced from 1996-1998 in conjunction..."

Um, why wouldn't it be edited? They are using the old dub from '96 with all the edits for this release. You do realize that a fair amount of footage was cut out of these, including full episodes right? Re-gathering the original Ocean cast to record those scenes wouldn't make a huge amount of sense. Besides having uncut footage would destroy the point of this release, that it is how it was when it aired on TV.

Unless of course you're referring to the first three movies. :P

On a different note, is anyone else hoping that we get: "Oh, this isn't good. I smell death in the air." As well as all the other dialogue that was re-done after the first broadcast (see podcast episode 66, I think. ).

The whole point of this release is to show what aired back in the mid-90s. I'm confused as to why you'd want it to be uncut. There are plenty of other ways to go if you want that. This is for nostalgia.

I believe my last post spells out exactly what this release is:

"Baically I'm paying money for a different voice cast and 90's edits?"

I'm really surprised Funi is doing this, won't it confuse normal people?

*Normal joe looks upon DBZ Orange Box set and this box set.*
"Ahhhhh their the same thing??? I'll buy this one because it says "Rock the Dragon" that must mean its the "coolest" version!"
*Goes home to watch DVD*
"Hahaha HFIL lol stupid 90's cartoon. Goku's dad created the moon power ball! Cool, what a smart guy!"

I forsee evil times coming our ways...

I think we're way, way, way past the point of confusing people with releases. They've already long since done that. But, again, it's for nostalgia, and people back in the day remember "Rock the Dragon." I'd say this one's clearer than most in terms of advertising.

As said, I think the marketing is pretty clear. This is going to be a rerelease of the original broadcast, which means no redubbing. Otherwise, they would've had Sabat narrating the trailer as per usual with "Watch Dragon Ball Z like never before! Uncut!"

That's true, the Orange and Dragon Box thing was bad but I suppose this isn't in comparsion.
Where did the first Ocean Dub broadcast originally end? Was it before or after Goku became SS1? All I remember is that it went up too when Son-Kun fought Jeice and Burter.

I think it ended in the middle of the Ginyu Force stuff, like right after Recoom was defeated. Or, you know, episode 53 (which is like 66 by the uncut count).

Yeah, I think it ended just as Jheese and co. began their assault on Goku.

Y'know I kinda wish they included the Ginyu and Freeza episodes on this set as well. It'd make sense, since they did a fair bit of re-dubbing on those for the orange bricks. It'd be nice to hear "Grabbing-My-Nuts-and-Voice-Acting Vegeta" again. Hell, they may as well make another set with these episodes and they could throw in the TV versions DBZ Movies 4 & 5 along with the two TV Specials that included the Faulconer score too.

By the way, did Funimation do Next Episode Previews for these episodes or was it only after they took the dubbing in-house? If I recall correctly, the original singles only included the preview on the last episode of each disc so it'd be nice to see all of them again. You have no idea how annoying it is to hear "Stay tuned for scenes from the next episode of DRAGON BALL Z!" on the orange bricks.

Oh yeah, and "Krillin's in the HOOOOOUUUUUUUUSE!"
