Well, since this is the DBox Movies Thread, not just the flaunt the fact that you have a DBox and I don't Thread, I have a question:
With the whole cropping of pictures thing, have there been some scenes in any of the movies in which the cropping has cut off something crucial to the movie, like half of a character's face for example?
My guess is that since the movies were originally released letterboxed, then the animators made sure to have everything centered so that viewers could get the gist (sp?) of the movie even with the top and bottom croppified.

Well, I can't say the same for others, but when I've viewed the movies on my television in the livingroom, which is a nice 27', I barely even noticed the letter boxing, and when I did, it was because I was looking directly for it; and from watching the movies myself, in my own sweet time, what I have seen personally, the letter boxing had not damaged the presentation in that way.
As I mentioned, I can't say the same for others, but during reviewings, and first time viewings (since I haven't gotten around to watching everything, between my comparisons, copying the discs to rewriables for repeat wear and tear, working on my website, and playing Tales of Phantasia-- it's a bit of a stretch -- Heh.) if I should catch anything, I'll mention it.

A lot of people assumed that information would be lost because they did rough estimations of area taken from the widescreen "cropping" based on FUNimation's discs. But as we know now, FUNimation's master are already zoomed/cropped as it is, so they weren't the best judge of character. I've watched a lot of the movies, but honestly, unless you're nit-picking, then it's fine, especially when you consider how incredible it looks.DaemonCorps wrote:Well, since this is the DBox Movies Thread, not just the flaunt the fact that you have a DBox and I don't Thread, I have a question:

Also, even if they did include a "full screen" version on these discs, they wouldn't look anywhere near as fantastic as the widescreen versions.

Here's EX's comparison pic:

Also,
But if you mean that FUNi's movies are slightly zoomed in as mentioned by previous posts, then yeah, they kinda are:Daizenshuu EX Rumor Guide wrote:So here we are with tons of fans thinking they're getting the "original" format for their movies, completely oblivious as to the actual nature of the print. Along comes FUNimation (and in the case of movies 1-3, FUNimation / Pioneer), releasing all of the movies in full-screen!
Well, American fans... you're in for a treat. We're the ones getting the full picture... not the Japanese fans! FUNimation uses the original 4:3 prints, rather than using the same "cropping" / "covering" technique used by the Japanese.

I seem to recall there being some talk a while back about how the Dragonbox versions are actually zoomed out(I'm referring to the tv series now). If I'm remembering right, the pictures were originaly zoomed in(slighty) by Toei to hide certain problems, and that carried over to the Funimation version, since everyone was using the same slightly-cropped version. For the Dragonboxes, the technical problems were fixed, and the pictures were zoomed out so they could show as much "good footage" as possible.
I imagine this is the exact same thing going on with the movie Dragonbox.
So erm...blame Toei! Blame 'em for everything! (and sing to the tune of Blame Canada!)

Thanks for the info.MajinVejitaXV wrote:DragonBox Z Vol. 1 - Goku figureHero 004 wrote:This set indeed looks very cool. I have a question. Was there an action figure included like the others, or did the scouters replace it?
DragonBox Z Vol. 2 - Piccolo figure
DragonBox (DB) - Diarama of Tenkaichi Budokai
DragonBox (GT) - Dragon Radar remote
DragonBox The Movies - 2x Scouter walkie-talkies
If you can find it for $350, and don't mind the lack of subtitles and have a region free player, go for it. If any of the above don't jive...pass on it.Strongbad456 wrote:Would it be worth it to buy the movie box the next time I have $350?

The reason I asked was because I saw two other figures made by Kaiyodo as well and I figured that they would be released in a future Dragon Box, but I guess they remained prototypes.
