It still makes no sense to me if he can breath in space but no under water. I remember Goku had trouble being under water for a short moment.

Goku can't breathe in space. No one can breathe in space. It's not possible to breathe in space.Hellspawn28 wrote:It still makes no sense to me if he can breath in space but no under water. I remember Goku had trouble being under water for a short moment.

Freeza can. He can breathe in space no problem. Cell and Majin Boo can also breathe in space no problem. "Apparently" the Rabbit gang can as well as they have been on the moon and are said by Toriyama to be drifting in space.Draken wrote:Goku can't breathe in space. No one can breathe in space. But the Rabbit gang are from Earth so it makes no sense... Maybe they just need to be around some atmosphere or can just survive for a period of time without dying.dbzfan7 wrote:Freeza can. Cell was breathing in space after he regenerated. The manga shows breathing sounds.Draken wrote:They're not breathing. That just means that they don't need to breathe to live.

Apparently, One Piece Film: Z (in Japanese cinemas last December) is already out in France, so I see no reason why Battle of Gods can't be overseas somewhere by August-ish.Hellspawn28 wrote:No way they can have this movie out by this July or August. It often takes a year for these type of movies to get released in other countries. It seems like fans don't know how movie distribution works.

Cell doesn't need air, oxygen, whatever to survive. So he can "breathe" (if you call breathing in near vacuum breathing) in space, but he's not getting anything out of it.dbzfan7 wrote:Cell was breathing in space after he regenerated. Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
Isn;t Cell "breathing" in space filler anyway? If he blew up in the afterlife, he should have regenerated in the Afterlife. No idea why Toei had Cell regenerate in Space.

James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

You realise without the proper gasses to breathe, you can't even make breathing motions, let alone sounds. Now, this is a kids series and you're all trying to make too much sense of it, despite it being in the name of in-universe discussion. Sure, maybe in the series the Earth has a larger atmosphere or something like that, but at the end of the day these are just fictional events that don't match up to reality.Draken wrote:Cell doesn't need air, oxygen, whatever to survive. Anyway, a film that had 'international screenings in mind' would surely get a headstart on distribution outside of Japan, so I see no reason to doubt an August time-frame.

Space is rarely ever a true vacuum, there are usually minute amounts of trace gases. Meaning, since there's no such thing as "proper" gases to breathe when it comes to Cell, then yes he can take in whatever is there because he doesn't NEED it to survive and it won't be a detriment to his health.Ryuman wrote:You realise without the proper gasses to breathe, you can't even make breathing motions, let alone sounds. All that aside, Toriyama wrote that Freeza can survive in the vacuum of space and Freeza said he could "breathe" in space. Cell has Freeza's cells. Like Piccolo's cell's and their regenerative capabilities Cell too gained the properties of Freeza's cells. Therefore because Freeza can "breathe" in space so too can Cell. More to the point no matter what argument and rationales we as a fan base come up with they are trumped by what the author says. So whatever Toriyama says carries the day.
Switching gears...FOX gets the rights is anybody else worried Goku is now gonna be voiced by Owne Wilson or Keanu Reeves?!
I know many fans only listen and view in Japanese but I really hope the funimation cast gets the job.

Freeza has a nose. I'd assume it's used for breathing? Or pehaps he breathes in the places he can, but is able to survive without doing that for a while.

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
I'm honestly not worried because I think FOX already knows how much fan backlash they'll get if they go around replacing cast members with celebrities. They probably don't want this movie going the way of Evolution, and let's not forget that the Funimation actors would be cheap to hire. I'm just upset that Mexico got the movie so early while the American distributors (FOX or Funimation) are keeping us in the dark. Don't get me wrong, Mexican fans are just as deserving of this movie (if not moreso) than the American fans. But still, from the looks of things it seems that Funimation and Fox aren't even trying to bring the movie here. I'm probably wrong, though; Funimation is probably fighting hard right now to get Battle of Gods because new material always means more money. I'm still kinda shocked at Funimation's estimate of 2 years in regards to getting the movie, because Mexico is apparently getting it in a few months (September-October, right?). I really don't see how it could be any more difficult to bring Battle of Gods to the U.S. through Funimation than it would be to bring it to Mexico through Diamond Films, because wouldn't FOX have first dibs to dub and distribute there as well? But on the other hand, copyright laws are really strange like that.Kakarot88 wrote:Switching gears...FOX gets the rights is anybody else worried Goku is now gonna be voiced by Owne Wilson or Keanu Reeves?!

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
Agreed, I think the delay could be the result of the studios debating whether or not to place it in theaters OR they simply want to see how well it does in Mexico and then go from there. Speculation to the highest degree but that is what my gut tells me.
Another problem could be the fact that Toriyama openly stated his disapproval of Evolution which came from FOX and FOX is the highest bidder meaning Toei is between a rock and a hard place in that they don't want FOX altering the script and basterdizing dragon ball again such that the author and fans (coughs like Toei cares more about us and him than money) are again disappointed. Especially after Toriyama spent so much time on this newest project...But Toei also wants all the money...so here's the dilemma as I see it:
(1) let FOX have free reign for a fatty check and have our beloved lazy author offended and not do anymore or
(2) gamble and hope our lazy beloved author will not be lazy and want to do more in which case better take a smaller check to not piss him off so that FOX does not change the script too much...mmmm more baseless speculation on my part but hey it is plausible...

Exactly the reason I'm importing the blu-ray from Japan; I feel like there's definitely some issues between Toriyama and FOX, and then between FOX and Funi that give me the "this is gonna take a while" vibe. As I prefer the Japanese voice acting cast anyway, and the exchange rate is about equal between dollars and yen atm, there wasn't really any debate in me choosing to import instead of waiting however long it may take for all parties involved to come to an agreement.
On hiatus.
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
A new FOX dub cast would certainly be interesting. Honestly the only thing that makes me hesitant with FOX is whether or not they would release it with English subs. I don't know they're track record with foreign material.

I just want the film to be released here already. I'm fine with seeing the movie with the FUNimation in-house cast, but I just hope the film gets a general theatrical release here in the States if FOX does plan on putting it on the big screen. The film was financially successful in the Japanese box office, but it would suck if the film got a limited release here.
