Actually, the reason is that I want (almost) all the game to have the same graphic identity. There was an improvement in Dragon Ball -> DBZ -> DBGT's quality. In the early DB episodes, there were 2 shades (light/shadow), or even sometimes, one only color. Back then, it took a lot of time to make the shades. But with time, they improved the quality of the frames, along with the definition of the pictures.Attitudefan wrote:And that's why everybody copies the new style.
When you trace something, better keep it as is instead of "fixing" it. That is what is wrong. I have no problem if he drew it all himself.
If I wanted to be totally faithful to the original anime, I would need to make something blurry, less detailed, and remove almost all the shadows on the characters. It wouldn't be an HD-2D game anymore. Even when I make screenshots of the old DB anime, I have to improve the contrast and the lighting, or else I get something very dirty, all greenish, where black is actually dark-grey, and white is light-grey.
But as you said, it's then a matter of personnal tastes, of nostalgia, etc... For example, I can't stand Raging Blast 2 or Ultimate Tenkaichi's graphics. From my point of view, that's the worst thing that can be made, they totally mess up with the original anime style. In the other hand, I love the style and quality of animation of the latest DBZ episodes, and I love Tadayoshi Yamamuro's current artstyle.
You can never please every single fan unfortunately, it's a basic rule. Even if I try my best to make a quality fangame, the artistic choices (and imperfections) will always bother someone. I'm sorry you don't like the style, but hey, after all, their is a big advantage for you: if you want to give it a try someday, it will be totally free! ^^
See you around!
P.S: The project is still going forward.
