Agreed. Peter at times sounded like Goofy to me. Then he sounds like a stereotyped dumb character with his voice. Lastly he sometimes he sound like he's serious at dubbing. He screams are good through. But look at Korean's Tooniverse dub of Dbz Gohan (adult). He's voice sounds just like Nozawa. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVtOmZAhYNU . You can here for at least 5 seconds but you can still hear the similarity
I don't see it here that much.

I also want to ask again how many times has dbz been re-released?

Well, there's the 276 episode run of singles, which was this content on the Pioneer-released DVDs and then seasons 3-6 on the uncut bilingual DVDs. So I guess that's one consistent release of the dub of the series. (All of the above was also equivalently released on VHS in terms of the dub content as well as the TV broadcast (edited) version of episodes 54-276 exclusive to the VHS format)

Then there was the Ultimate Uncut Editions, which were only intended to be redubs of those first 53 (67) episodes as well as the first Japanese release of these episodes, but they didn't even get that far. So it would have been an alternative to part of the above, not really a second release for the whole series, but there you go...

Then there were the orange bricks, which contained the Ultimate Uncut Edition audio for seasons 1 and 2, then... mostly the same seasons 3-6 audio with several alterations and changes, not to mention a new 5.1 audio track combining the dub cast with the original score. Now with 20% less picture! First complete release of the 291 episode count.

Then there were the Dragon Boxes, which was all 291 episodes released with the proper Japanese visuals, proper picture quality, and the 5.1 dub audio track from the orange bricks.

Then there were the aborted Blu-rays.

And now there's this, which is essentially just a re-release of the first DVDs.

So we've had 3 complete series (depending on how you want to define that term) releases. In terms of this specific content, this is the second time this exact thing has been released, the fourth time this general content will have been completed, and the sixth time it will have been attempted in optical media.

I already have the best part of the Ocean cast years, the first three DBZ movies, on DVD. If I want to watch a cut-and-paste version of DBZ, I've got Kai.

Unless they get the Ocean cast to dub more of the movies or re-dub the show, I'm not really that interested in this release.

I'm not really a DVD collecter, but this is definitely a must buy. But it could be even better than the Pioneer DVD Singles Releases. Who knows?

No. I have no nostalgia for this broadcast run, there for I have no reason to buy this bastardization (though the movies were properly dubbed). The only FUNi releases I'll support is properly made modern releases of the new movie, and the rest of the Dragon Boxes.

Don't really see the point in this thread since there's already one talking about the release but yes I'll be buying it. There's already loads of Funi dub releases so I personally don't see the big deal in Ocean Z having a one off. Of course everybody's throwing a tantrum because they aren't getting the Dragon Boxes but I really don't believe this release is to blame.

I agree. We already have a thread for this DVD. This just feels like someone is trying to steal some of the spotlight off the other thread.

Far from trying to steal spotlight, I'm interested in knowing whos going to purchase the DVD set and why, thats all nothing more nothing less. The other thread your refering to is more about the general release not about whos buying & whos not. This is basically a question from me to the members of Kanzenshuu.

Nope, because the only things I'd want from it are the first three movies and I already have those on DVD.

Yes. I'm kind of not sure why. Partially so I don't regret things if it's short print like the Dragon Boxes, partially because a friend of mine is from the UK and grew up with these voices so I'd love to watch it with her, partially because I love those dubs of the movies and want to support a new DVD release with them, and partially because I'm just a sucker for limited edition DVD packaging.

I might. I have it on order, although I might cancel it later. There's justifications I can give, but then I think to myself, "Am I really about to buy the Saiyan and Namek sagas AGAIN?", or I think about what little nostalgia I have for it. But I suppose if I end up not wanting it, I can always turn around and resell it.

I already have all the Madman volumes (that have all recaps/NEPs) but I'm definitely considering picking it up, especially if it is going to contain the TV version of Movie 3, which will gladly replace my Cartoon Network recording. Though I'm going to wait till there's reviews and indepth looks into the set so I know what it has.

I might pick this up. But I am torn on the issue of whether or not I'd actually watch it all the way through. First off, I legitimately appreciate what they're doing here. I'm really happy that they're going out of their way to appeal to every possible fan Dragon Ball has ever had in America. So this release is awesome just for that factor alone. But aside from just being able to say that I have the set, I'm not sure how much time I'd actually devote to it.

I think I have a rather unusual perspective since I had discovered Dragon Ball in both Japanese and English at more or less the exact same time. I think I had seen a few scattered Japanese episodes shortly before DBZ started airing on TV. When it started airing I was a regular viewer while also "skipping ahead" with any Japanese episodes I could find, trying to make sense of it despite the lack of context. Walking into both without any previous experience or expectations left me basically liking Dragon Ball in general, regardless of which "version" it was. And this was roughly when I was 11 years old so I fully appreciate the nostalgia factor of the old dub.

The problem is that it's not a completely different show. This isn't like Voltron vs. Go Lion, where separate releases are a necessity. This is, generally speaking, still Dragon Ball Z, which has never really gone away for long enough for actual nostalgia to kick in. This isn't a show that's been M.I.A. for the last 15 years. As far as I'm aware, I've never taken a break from it. How many times am I going to watch Raditz arrive? Plus, there's been a lot of water under the bridge. When they first happened, the cast and score changes were jarring, sure, but it's been a loooong time. So while I still have fond memories of watching those early episodes, I don't necessarily feel like I've a reason to miss watching them. In fact, now it's kind of the opposite problem in that the "new" cast is so ingrained that going back to the Ocean cast might be a bit weird if I'm watching it for any other reason than "cool, Ocean cast!" I absolutely love Ocean, sure. I think they have fantastic actors. But aside from catching up on some old Ian Corlett, Scott McNeil, and Brian Drummond clips on YouTube, I've never really had any overwhelming desire to "go back to the good ol' days" or something like that. To me it's always been DBZ from start to finish.

I want it mainly because it'll be a better DVD release of the original movies. Also, there is some nostalgia there. Whether I'm going to buy it comes down to what sort of money I have at the time.

The Ocean Dub is far from being one of those versions, if anything the European dubs are the worst.

OP: Yes. But afterwards when it shows up on Amazon.co.uk through a marketplace seller so that I perhaps may pay less for importing it.

Anyway, why do we need another topic about the Ocean Dub DVD Collection? We already have one: http://www.kanzenshuu.com/forum/viewtop ... =7&t=22603

I'll definitely be getting it once I can find a listing on Amazon or Ebay UK. I have a lot of nostalgia for that dub along with Funi's Season 3 dub. And I really enjoy Levy's music despite the fact that it all sounds similar. Also Corlett is my favourite Goku after Sean Schemmel.

Why the hell are people comparing this specific release of DBZ with the rest?

The others had the English FUNimation Dub, whereas this one features the English "Ocean Dub" which have only been on the Singles & Boxsets, other than that nothing else.

People complaining. Sigh.

Regarding this specific release: No. I do have some nostalgia for the old music and "Rock the Dragon" theme. However, I have no use for an edited-for-TV version of the show that's missing episodes from even its own limited run and has different voices from the rest of the series. I already have these eps on DVD in two boxed sets that I haven't watched in years and was thinking of selling.

Re-buying the series in general: I have all nine seasons on DVD (the orange bricks) and all eight volumes of Kai on blu-ray. The only way I will ever buy DBZ again is as a full uncut run on BRD with the US version music included. I have no interest in Dragon Boxes w/o the US music. I liked what I heard about the Level sets; I was just waiting for them to be re-packaged into larger collections later like they always do. I guess that won't be happening now. Apparently it's more important to release this new "Beat the Dead Horse," excuse me, "Rock the Old Dragon" set than it is to continue the Level sets or continue Kai through the Majin Buu saga.

P.S. Why didn't they just include the old "Rock the Dragon" opening on the DVD season sets, like they did "Step into the Grand Tour" with DBGT?
