I prefer the Nathan Johnson score over Team Faulconer's score.

@Michsi Maybe, but I wouldn't call that Goku's "past" as he has interacted with them in every major timeframe until then and it's not part of the "Z" era anyway.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

It's not just the behaviour of Roshi. It's the idea that it's laughed off in Dragonball.

He's not rewarded for it.

Nor does he face any lasting consequences (by which I mean worse than being PNG'd by the heroes). I mean, the attitude towards creepy old men in shonen anime is quite like the BBC's attitude towards Jimmy Savile when he was alive.

Creepy old men aren't some kind of universal evil. Different cultural standards are clearly being conveyed here.

Vegeta doesn't face any lasting consequences for FAR worse sins. I shudder to think how high the mountain of dead bodies that Vegeta accumulated over the years (including children) would reach.

And really all he ever did was try and feel up girls butts which is fairly wrong but it's not like he was locking girls in his basement.

Yeah, I don't like that either.

Er, it was more than that, AFAIK he spied on Bulma when she was in the bathroom, and just because he didn't lock girls in his basement doesn't mean he isn't creepy.

Well he had his pride humiliated by Goku and Freeza, which to him is the ultimate punishment.

You honestly think the punishment fits the crimes? He deserves to be sent to a Hell of the worst kind. Perhaps helping save the universe from Buu does give him an eventual reprieve, but the billions dead at his hand shouldn't be forgotten. Vegeta's fragile ego being broken is hardly a punishment.

And besides, hell in dragonball is a smack in the wrist compared to the common interpretation. You just get your memories wiped and you get reincarnated. Dante's inferno on the other hand...

Considering how he's made it clear that he would rather die than have his ego hurt, yes to him that is a more fitting punishment.

Also, Vegeta probably would have gone to hell and stayed there for good, had Goku not selfishly spared him.

I didn't say just die. It's what happens after he dies that matters. Plus, when he's alive and his self worth is shattered, he's still a danger to everyone around him.

I wish people would stop using "selfish" as a pejorative.

Nothing ever says that Vegeta won't be going to Hell upon his death even after Buu. Just because the Dragon considers him "not a really really bad guy" doesn't affect Yemma's judgement.

I don't think Toriyama is implying it's okay behavior by Muten Roshi. Dragon Ball isn't even remotely in the real world, so you can't judge things by the same standards as in the real world.
