As a fan of the show Monk, I love that Randy Disher was the voice of Raditz.

I'm guessing that I'm in the minority here, but I never liked Brian Drummond as Vegeta. Aside from a few good moments ("My WRATH!!!!"), I didn't think he fit the character very well after the Saiyan Arc. And I didn't like him at all post Freeza. Granted, Sabat wasn't any better at the beginning, but he improved a lot later.

Drummond is great as Vegeta when he's evil.

By the way, I still don't understand why some have a problem with the australian or british accent given to Jeice. Is it really that ridiculous given that everyone in the universe seems to speak whatever language the series is dubbed in?

He gets the evil part down, and he covers the rage pretty well, but I don't really get a feel of Vegeta's pride from him. That's what really kills the performance for me.

I've always liked Aussie Jeice. Can't really remember his Ocean version very well though.

Some of that might come down to writing, not performance. Plus, I don't remember Vegeta's pride getting that much attention until the fight against Freeza.

I take it you haven't seen the Ocean Dub Majin Vegeta fight, then?

No, haven't seen past the Cell Games.
Edit: Just watched it. Still not a fan. He sounds more evil than prideful, which is missing the point, IMO. I think that Sabat pulled off a good mix of both. I also don't think that Drummond's voice matches Vegeta's design in the Buu Arc. Or even the mid-to-late Freeza Arc.

IMO a really good actor can still make due with bad writing.
True, but the fight with Freeza was one of Vegeta's most important moments in the series, and I don't think Drummond pulled it off. Especially the scene where he died.

The Ocean series past episode 53 shouldn't be held to any kind of standard of quality, it was obviously rushed and under-produced.

I've never bought into the whole "Drummond for young Vegeta, Sabat for older Vegeta" thing. I think they're both perfectly fine for either, I just think that Drummond's Vegeta was one of the most unique voice jobs in the entire universe of English dub work. He really had a voice that set the character apart.

Think about the early episodes - how often did Vegeta actually speak calmly? We never got a chance to hear what Drummond would do with a scene like Vegeta's pre-suicide speech, with some time and polish put on it.

Kamiccolo9, you can't really judge based off a couple of clips and/or one episode. Drummond gets the pride down packed! He sounds totally destroyed, his pride gone, but lusts for that evil again when he goes majin. I don't want to turn it into a dub war, but just because you are not used to a voice because it is "high pitched" (when it really isn't even that high to begin with), and sounds different doesn't make it 'bad acting'. Listen to him prior to shooting off the Galick Gun, he sounds angry, borderline psycho, but also very prideful. "HIS BEAM IS AS STRONG AS MY GALICK GUN??!!?!" is a great example. Or when he is fighting gohan just moments before the spirit bomb is launched. He NAILS it! (His prideful, psychotic laugh and chuckle are also one of a kind which is unseen in any other version of Dragonball. It is so good [bias opinion here on the laugh btw]).

You know, the Vegeta role basically cemented his voice acting career. I think that says something: he did it right.

Voice=/=acting; yet Drummond did both very well.

And I LOVE how people say these actors suck, yet are still in lots of dubs, commercials, cartoons and even films. Yeah, they are TERRIBLE actors! :lolno:

Since you live in the Netherlands, would you be interested in anything in English?
Five pages late, but yes: many cartoons, including DBZ, used to be aired in English with Dutch subtitles here. These days, not so much, though... except for Cartoon Network which lets you switch audio tracks and subtitles to your own preference, which is pretty neat.

This might sound like a dumb question but could anyone please explain to me exactly how you pre-order stuff off the American Amazon if you're in the UK? I want to make sure this doesn't get sold out before I get a chance to get it. Is there a way to make the dollars show up as pounds so you know how much you're paying and also a way of checking if they'll post to your location?

I started out with the Ocean Dub back when it aired on Toonami before they switched over to the Funimation cast, and am very familiar with the episodes that will be part of this set. I never said that Drummond was a bad actor, I just don't like his performance in DBZ. He may be a great actor elsewhere, but I do not like his portrayal of Vegeta. Don't assume that just because I dislike something means that I'm stating that it's universally bad.
I said that I was probably in the minority when I said that I didn't like him as Vegeta. That's my opinion and I'm entitled to it.

We'll just have to agree to disagree I guess. I think many people give him a bad rap as Vegeta just because those people might not be used to it. I wasn't sure if you were one of those type of people. If you don't like it, you just don't I guess. Hey, I'm not a fan of most of FUNi's cast for Dragonball. Only a few I like.

Yeah, I looked up what he was in,and I like him in some stuff that I never knew he was in, like Megaman NT warrior and Transformers Armada. Just not a big fan of his Vegeta :P
After starting the series in Japanese recently though, I'll have to say that Horikawa is superior to both Drummond and Sabat. That guy IS Vegeta

I don't find Drummond that good either. Btw I'm more use to ocean then I am Funi. To me it just doesn't fit Vegeta appearance.

Hmmm.... I can't find the scene on youtube, so I may have misremembered it. I'm pretty sure that he did at least some of the Freeza Arc, and I may have just been combining that with Sabat's early version of that scene, and Sabat wasn't particularly good when he was imitating Drummond. Good catch

Maybe. Was their a flashback of Vegeta's death scene in the Cell Arc? That would have been the only place I would have seen it.
