Evangelion is one of those things that you either love or hate. It starts off normal but then goes into artsy fartsy mind f..k that makes Pink Elephants On Parade look noraml territory halfway through. Still can't recommend it enough especially the rebuilds if you prefer dubs over subs.

I like the Rebuild movies, way more than the original series in fact. That being said, I'm still hardly a fanatic for them, so this announcement wasn't all that exciting to me. They licensed the previous films, so it was only a matter of time before they licensed this one, big deal. Talk about disappointment.

So, uh... I've read about Neon Genesis Evangelion on Wikipedia. I'm kinda put off by its many religious stuff, like crosses and other things. But I've read that it's more of psychological than mecha.

Don't get me wrong. I've known about Evangelion for as long as you guys have, but I just have never bothered watching the series.

I highly recommend it. It does have some religious symbolism and yes, crosses (the crosses are almost always there just to 'look cool' though- I believe Anno even said that) and it does become way more psychological as it goes along. The first 13 episodes are relatively straight forward though (although I've been discussing with some who actually say it's still very much in tone with the darker parts).. I'd actually say watch up until episode 20, then watch the director's cut versions of 21-24 and then watch End of Evangelion AND then watch episodes 25 and 26 of the anime.

It's much more psychological character drama/action than religious. And watch sub... I thought the Japanese cast were better and the English dub ruined some more subtle etc moments of the original Japanese.

I'd wait until the fourth and final rebuild movie is out before watching those. I don't mind them but I prefer the TV show and End of Evangelion much more.

Eva is a really big deal for anime so this is a big announcement even if we saw it coming. It will be like when they bring out Star Wars Episode 8, we would have all know about it since they announced Episode 7 but it will still be f..king huge.

While it's not as big as Star Wars it's still VERY well know within the anime community, if you went to an anime convention and asked random people "do you know what Evangelion is or at least heard of it?" most of them would say "yes" whether they like the show or not.
