So... that theory was right? Yes! Yes! Screw Vegetto!
Also, Bardock is about to get one-shotted.

Herms wrote:The fact that the ridiculous power inflation is presented so earnestly makes me just roll my eyes and snicker. Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
So someone called it actually, Vegito loses because he was actually away for longer than he thought.
I'm sorry, but that's actually hilarious to me.
If he came back as Bardock and Cold are fighting though...did we skip a few fights, or were they next up anyway?

This is both funny and bullshit at the same time.
We skipped like four. They'll probably rewind a bit to cover the events from everyone else's perspective.Gyt Kaliba wrote:If he came back as Bardock and Cold are fighting though...did we skip a few fights, or were they next up anyway?

Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
I dunno, it's bullshit in a way, but I find this more acceptable than the cheap-ass way Tapion won his fight, but that's just me maybe. This also kind of reminds me of the way Kuwabara loses a fight in Yu Yu Hakusho.
Yeah, I figure it'll backtrack soon to show us the other fights, if not within the next few pages and leaving us hanging on Bardock/Cold's fight, then starting in the next regular chapter or something.
Whoa, so he's definitely been out of action for a lot longer than he thought.TonyTheTiger wrote:We skipped like four. They'll probably rewind a bit to cover the events from everyone else's perspective.

Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
This was hilarious.
I don't understand why this was bullshit. I'm gonna say that it was a clever idea to take the overpowered Vegetto out of the game. Vegetto is so strong compared to the others, that it's not even funny.

James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.
Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
Kind of an underwhelming end to Vegetto's run in the tournament proper, but still a clever way to eliminate the obviously strongest and eventual victor.

Except it looks like Vegetto still has a big role to play anyways.
Is this enough to make Vegetto go into a hissy fit and kill his own son? There has to be more to this.

Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
Vegetto pulling a face heel turn would be the most asinine plot twist ever and would actually be worse than any special up to this point. I hope that isn't the case.
Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
I admit, it is a clever way to eliminate Vegetto but it's just so underwhelming. My inner fangirl wants to rage but at least the upcoming fights would fair and entertaining.
Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
Sorry to say that the universe 16 novelization alludes quite a few times that Vegetto has the potential to be evil. I don't agree with it at all because Vegeta wasn't *that* bad and Goku should water it down even further, but this is what Salagir believes. Not to mention that the elder Namek tells Vegetto "Maybe someday your child will put YOU in line". Oh boy, the rage when it turns out Bra is the ultimate hero of DBM.TonyTheTiger wrote:Vegetto pulling a face heel turn would be the most asinine plot twist ever and would actually be worse than any special up to this point. Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
It's just ridiculous because Dragon Ball has never been about good guys being corrupted by their power or heroes becoming villains. In fact, the opposite is the case more often than not. At best you get the evil dragons from GT but even that wasn't exactly willful. Of all the questionable things we've seen in DBM so far, Vegetto going crazy would be the worst of all since aside from being stupid it would outright violate what is arguably the core spirit and central theme of the entire Dragon Ball saga.Storm101 wrote:Sorry to say that the universe 16 novelization alludes quite a few times that Vegetto has the potential to be evil. Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
I like this but I don't like it. It's a clever way to remove Vegetto, obviously the strongest competitor, but the fact that this was a viable move in a tournament is absolute bull shit. XX1 can win any match with that bull shit
.
Vegeta: "Funny... I seem to recall Kakarot being fed the same information right before he transformed; the distinct look on your faces when he went Super Saiyan didn't exactly inspire confidence. One does not predict or calculate power like ours."

Told ya shit was gonna be all cray cray, but something tells me it's going to get even wackier.
And by the way, with DBM it's never good crazy or bad crazy, it's just DBM crazy.

Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse
Well, we saw the little wizard guy, but according to Elder Kai, that's not who he was thinking it was. So either that was all one big joke that fell flat, or this guy is a stand-in for the real thing - or he transforms into what Elder Kai was thinking of, or something.Hellspawn28 wrote:We never saw what XXI looked like anyways.

Well, I liked it. It was clever and funny. And nothing would be more boring than Vegetto stomping (almost) everyone or a villain that is just OMG-strong and nothing else. Now I'm curious to see what this will lead to.
Oh, and that ability doesn't make XXI invincible. Now that the other fighters know about it, I'm sure that at least some of them will figure out ways of avoiding it.

Agreed. I actually liked it, it was a good move. It eliminated an overpowered character who already had his chance to shine.
