I hold nothing against fans of the Ocean dub. If that's what floats your boat, fine. There's nothing wrong with that or you. But with this release, certain parts of the Saiyan arc are receiving their fifth DVD release, and seventh release overall if you include the Blu-rays and Kai. The Blu-ray releases were even canceled because they weren't making any money, so what the Hell makes FUNi think that this will do any better? I would imagine that the allure of HD had a better chance of reeling more people in than nostalgia for the old voice cast does.

Could be worse..they could of done the sets in "sagas" and leave the last saiyan saga episode for the next release...then cancel it

The frame by frame cleaning up and remastering was also quite time intensive and a big part of why it was cancelled as well.

Does RightStuf charge when you order or when they ship? Thinking about pre-ordering it, but I'd feel safer if it didn't charge now. I just like the price guarantee stuff on Amazon, but if the price keeps going up, I'll just grab it from RS and probably get it sooner too.

From what I understand, they only charge you when they ship...BUT they often ship early, sending out stuff way before it should go out, so you might end up getting surprised.

This is a little different though. There's no extensive clean-up, which is part of what killed the Blu-ray releases (the profit margins for that work obviously weren't high enough), and while the Blu-rays were to be ongoing, this is a one-off novelty release targeting a specific group of fans. They can make their profits on pre-orders and early buyers, after which it will almost certainly go out of print like the Dragon Boxes. They just need to get a run or two into the hands of people who have been waiting for this.

Can I ask the Brits among us, how are you planning to buy this boxset? I'm rather nervous about importing the set via Amazon.com, because I don't want to fall victim to large custom duties. Any help would be much appreciated :)

I've decided to hold off on this DVD. I want to save my money for DVDs I have been looking forward to buying before I buy this. I also want to wait and see the quality of this release.

Last time I ordered from Amazon US, they charged me a customs fee up front, saying they would pay back the difference if the fee ended up being inaccurate. I didn't get anything back, but it was still a lot less of a hassle than having the mailman turn up at my door and hold my order hostage like with other things I've ordered from the US in the past.

Thanks to a friend of mine, I discovered that the eyecatch I showed here before from my 2008 CN recording, wasn't actually the full version. The first line in mine was simply: "We'll Be Right Back...", but the full version, it's: "Hey kids, don't go away, we'll be right back...". He was helping out with providing a few VHS sources for my Cardcaptors Remastered project and he had some old DBZ recordings too, so I asked if he could transfer those to DVD too.

The audio was much clearer than my CN recording, though since he didn't record ads, it was cut off at random places, but luckily there were several recordings of the eyecatch in there, and luckily one had the "Hey kids..." on the start, so I stitched together the best bits.

The video quality's not that great but the audio is clear, so this'll be an interesting source if FUNimation doesn't include it in the Rock the Dragon set:

That description is actually great for what this product is.

For the most part I like the description but there are a few issues I have with it.
ROCK THE DRAGON EDITION wrote:"This ultimate fanboy release"
Do I even need to explain why I have a problem with this line? Last time I checked and correct me if I'm wrong, the term "fanboy" is not a term of endearment so I find the fact that FUNi's even using that term a bit offensive since fanboy is usually used as an insult, if they wanted to really speak to the nostalgic crowd in a better manner they should've used this instead "This ultimate throwback/nostalgic release". (pick which term you think fits better)
ROCK THE DRAGON EDITION wrote:"features the legendary Westwood dub"
Forgive me if I'm being nit-picky here but shouldn't this be say the Ocean Studios dub?
ROCK THE DRAGON EDITION wrote:"Celebrate 15 years of Dragon Ball Z in North America by kicking your cred into the stratosphere of super fandom!"
The only problem I have with this is the 15 years part since that's technically inaccurate, if we're going by years numerically it would actually be 17 years not 15, so what it should say is either "Celebrate over 15 years of Dragon Ball Z in North America by kicking your cred into the stratosphere of super fandom!", or "Celebrate 17 years of Dragon Ball Z in North America by kicking your cred into the stratosphere of super fandom!" either would work just fine, other than those 3 problems love the description.
If anyone has any of the DB/DBZ/DBGT or Maho Tsuaki Sally Japanese single DVD's that they'd be interested in selling send me a PM and I'll see if we can work something out. ;).

Fanboy is accurate, especially with the dub community. They could have used fandom instead though!

Westwood Dub is completely inaccurate and wrong. It is a Funimation dub, with the Vancouver (Ocean) cast! Boy, that was a big booboo.

The fact they're using the term "Westwood dub" specifically... either its just an error, or it implies they may have access to a certain dub, such as the yet-to-be released on DVD Westwood/AB Groupe dub for the UK/Canada audiences.

Not saying anything factual, just pointing out what-ifs and possibilities here...

I still think this is meant to be a precursor to Ocean Kai where the fans are reintroduced to this dub version. It makes a great way to market Ocean Kai then: "Remember the Toonami Dub? Well, here's the new UNEDITED release of your favourite Canadian actors..."

Westwood Studios is merely a branch of Ocean Productions.

I know, it just seems funny to me that "Westwood" is specifically mentioned, perhaps that's the facility/studio where their original 1996 dub was recorded after all.

Wow, I never knew FUNimation actually called the season sets "orange bricks". I guess the fandom lexicon seeks into their board rooms in Texas.
