If this game really did have the luxury of having a longer development time, it should be spent making it the best and most engaging Dragon Ball Z video game. Wasting that extra time on shoving in a buttload of characters would be the most moronic move they could make.

Hmmmm I'm not so sure about this trailer.

I hope they won't do that BS where it stops at the Cell saga so we don't get all the characters from the Buu arc. The trailer didn't show any like Buu or SSJ3.

And I bet they fucking took out that sweet enviroment and planet destruction they added in the last new game.

With DBZ games it's allways like one step forward two steps back.

I know it shows SSG but I can still see them only going upto the Cell arc and then having SSG as some extra bonus.

I have a feeling that the roster will be pretty sizable. With the 4v4 style, it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to just have villains without their minions. :)

I do like the style, though. Something different. Pretty much anything is preferable to me than the same old "polished turd" Spike models.

I'm kind of disappointed that this isn't Spike, though, because I was expecting some sort of "Raging Blast done right" kind of thing. Variety is great and everything, but the one issue with brand new series is the fact that the engines are new and potentially flawed. I really, really, really am getting too old and tired to plow through to Battle of Z 3, buying each one and being disappointed by the lack of progress. Unless I'm initially really impressed, I think I'll wait for the reviews.

That box art probably isn't real. It looks like someone's literally slapped on some logos to the image that was revealed.

The Raging Blast & Ultimate Blast rosters were bad. Raging Blast 2 had a nice roster, but it didn't have DB & GT. For me, the ideal roster would be this:
  • 1) Son Goku: DB
    2) Son Goku: Z (base, SS, SS2, SS3, SSG)
    3) Son Goku: GT (base, SS, SS3, SS4)
    4) Son Gohan: Kid
    5) Son Gohan: Boy (base, SS, SS2)
    6) Son Gohan: Teen/Adult* (base, SS, SS2, Great Saiyaman, Ultimate)
    7) Son Gohan: Future (base, SS)
8 ) Son Goten (base, SS)
    9) Son Goten: GT* (base, SS)
    10) Pan
    11) Vegeta (base, SS, SSG2, SS2, Majin)
    12) Vegeta: GT (base, SS, SS2, SS4)
    13) Trunks: Future (base, SS, SSG3)
    14) Trunks (base, SS)
    15) Trunks: GT* (base, SS)
    16) Gotenks (base, SS, SS3)
    17) Vegetto (base, SS)
    18) Gogeta (SS, SS4)
    19) Oob: GT (base, Super)
    20) Piccolo
    21) Kuririn: DB
    22) Kuririn: Z
    23) Yamcha
    24) Tenshinhan

    59) Majin Boo: Evil (Piccolo, Gotenks, Gohan absorbed)
    60) Majin Boo: Pure
    61) Rild (base, merged, metal)

    83) Beers
    84) Whis
*Teen/Adult Gohan should have his GT appearance as an alternative, and GT Goten & Trunks should have their 28th TB appearances.

That's the smallest & most complete roster that includes the most important characters from DB/Z/GT/Movies/Specials.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

The model anti-aliasing on those screenshots

From what we've seen so far the game looks like it only runs to the Freeza arc - which is kinda disappointing, especially when it seems that the Super Saiyan God form has been inexplicably lumped in.

I can live without the Dragon Ball characters because they would be out of place with the fast paced stylized fighting DBZ is famous for. However, it would be an absolute dream if we get all those GT characters on this list.

@Blade and Vamp

they could just be slowly revealing the characters and sagas as the upcoming months go by. The first ultimate tenkaichi trailer didn't reveal characters from the buu saga.

My ideal roster would probably be 70 characters at most, including movie and GT characters. :?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2AW8iL_pos - At 1:25, 4th line from the top, it says "Developed by ARTDINK". I guess it's as much of an official reveal as we need.

Seems like they've been around for quite a while (1988) but have been doing a lot of mecha games lately (Gundam, Macross, so forth). Don't know what to think from it, since I haven't really played any of them. The fact that it isn't Spike anymore is totally exciting to me.

Fuck me, no Chaozu. Why add more minor villians and exclude a member of the Z-warriors.

Two years Namco, TWO years. Looks like the story mode will be shorter with battles because the just threw everything in one match with 4 v 4.

That's a hell of an assumption to make after ONE trailer. Obviously they're not gonna want to reveal everything at once. The whole 'Super Saiyans God thing' is probably just a teaser for what's to come.

Remember the initial trailer for Ultimate Tenkaichi's story mode? Only went up to Cell, but the game goes all the way to GT?

That's impossible since Super Saiyan God is in it. I think it will have all of DBZ, including the Majin Buu arc.

Okay, guys, seriously, we haven`t even known about this game for a week, and you`re already complaining about the fact that we haven`t seen a lot of characters, and because of that, the roster will be small? CHILL! There will probably be more characters announced, you know, LATER! xD

Teaser website is up: http://dbzboz.bngames.net/e/
Apparently there will be no offline coop... it says "Number of Players: 1 (1-8 for Online play)" :(

Also, battle damage is in the game.

Oh man! That would suck! It makes sense though, I can't imagine how awkward it would be to play split screen with 8 players. I just hope they give us 2 player offline.
