What do you think the Anime did better than the Manga?
For me, three things come to mind. I like the filler that showed Gohan's survival in the wastelands, I felt that the first SSJ transformation was handled better (it was too fast in the manga, IMO), and the Base Vegetto vs Buu fight.

All of the filler fighting (not secondary characters but actuall fighting) in the Freeza vs. Goku fight.
The final kamehameha between Gohan and super perfect cell I loved everyone contributing!
The entire other world tournament was amazing too.
Goku going SS3 in the Funimation version was incredible the music was awesome
Anything with Mister Satan he is def one of my favorites
Vegeta going SS in the Funimation version was way better the music was awesome

When the filler actually involves fighting instead of standing around staring at each other, it's pretty decent.

I also want to mention the Trunks special. I thought that the anime version was far superior to the one in the manga.

Character deaths in general. As a reader you might mourn your favorite character but the scenes themselves are emotionless aside from Vegeta's second death. The voice acting, score, and padding of the material gives weight to scenes like Tenshinhan's death.

The anime portrayed Vegetto's abilities better.

Not exactly. In the anime, Vegetto was shown to have some small troubles with Boo at times, in both base & Super Saiyan. In the manga, Vegetto never had any trouble.hleV wrote:The anime portrayed Vegetto's abilities better.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

As far as certain scenes, I like:
Goku vs Nappa
The earlier portion of Goku vs Freeza
Goku SSJ
The latter portion of SSJ Goku vs Freeza
Trunks SSJ
Vegeta SSJ
Vegeta vs Cell (Semi and Perfect form)
Gohan final struggle vs Cell.
Other world Tournament was cool, prolly the only filler I really like watching over.
Goku vs Majin Vegeta
SSJ3 vs Fat Buu
Gohan vs Super Buu
Vegito base form vs Super Buu
Vegeta vs Kid Buu
Goku vs Uub

Re: What do you think the Anime did better than the Manga?
From what I can recall (since it's been a while since I've read the manga), the build up to Gohan's awakening was done a little better in the anime, actually thanks to filler. The Saiyan filler, more scenes of his training in the RoSaT, the SSJ2 transformation scene, all better in the anime. You really get the feeling that Gohan was being built up. Of course, it becomes a total letdown in the Buu arc, but that's Toriyama's fault.

With the exception of a few cutaways to Suno and the whole Dr. Frappe thing, everything Toei adds to the Muscle Tower mini-arc enhances it. I like the additions to the Murasaki fight, as well as the maze.
There's also the fight with the Robot Pirate. I was surprised to see how short and unexciting it was in the manga compared to the anime. Toei really extended that fight, but in the right way--they managed to make the Robot feel like an unstoppable juggernaut. It's one of my favorite fights in the entire series.

The anime had better voice acting and music than the manga.
But in all seriousness, the above image is a great example of something awesome from the anime. A lot of filler was bad, but it had occasional gems. The driving episode is always fun to go with, and like above, the build up was done better in some scenes (SSJ2 with Spirit vs Spirit was great).

It wasn't even a fight what we saw in the manga. But in the anime, it was one of the best fights in the entire franchise IMO.penguintruth wrote:Goku vs Majin Vegeta. Way better in the anime.

Saiyaman arc filler, extending certain scenes like the Final Flash and Goku's first SS transformation. Also some of the extended fights.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!
Re: What do you think the Anime did better than the Manga?
Now, I haven't seen the fight in a while and it's definitely better than the manga. But I remember it just became a beam spamming match in the end?It wasn't even a fight what we saw in the manga. But in the anime, it was one of the best fights in the entire franchise IMO.
Any-ways to the topic at hand. These are what I can remember off the top of my head.
*Gohan's Artifical Human and Cell arc character arcs.
*Just having quality voice acting and music, lol...(Japanese cast)
* The Boo arc in general (Need to watch/read them again though)
* Some background character developments and whatnot- For some reason I loved Dende telling them about the past of Namek and why they plant those trees or whatnot.
* The majority of the one year training for Vegeta and Nappa's arrival.
* Some fights- Goku vs. Vegeta- round 2, Goku vs. Cell offhand. Some parts of the Freeza vs SSJ Goku- like episode 103.
It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.
Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.

Re: What do you think the Anime did better than the Manga?
I don't know if I would say the anime did the entire Buu arc better. They padded the crap out of it. Which is why I can hardly wait for the Kai version.
(Though I hope they leave that Goku vs Majin Vegeta stuff alone.)

Well, I did say in general. Not all of it mind you and I agree about the padding.

Re: What do you think the Anime did better than the Manga?
I've always enjoyed certain flashbacks we see in the anime. Particularly during the Cell Games when Roshi tells everyone of how Goku won his way through the past tournaments. We see a lot of the early Dragon Ball fights throughout Z from flashback scenes. And of course I love the obvious music, voices, and sound effects the anime gives us.
