What do you people do when you see a Funimation voice actor at a convention? Do you not even come close to them, do you meet them and chat with them...? I'm just asking this because I know a lot of you here prefer the japanese version.

Common misconception: Hatred of the dub equals hatred of the voice actors.
Wrong. Hell, from what I've heard, Chris, Sean and Kyle are nice guys. I don't necessarily like their work on DragonBall, but a great deal of that comes from the script and the atmosphere created by the music and the fact that Ocean was a tough group to follow, given their great experience.
That said, if I did go to cons (never have been and don't really plan on it) and ran into any of them, I'd probably say hi. No gushing, no hatred, just a regular greeting. Maybe even tell them I enjoyed Fruits Basket's dub.

I'd probably just avoid them, which isn't really that insulting considering I pretty much avoid people in general. I remember at Otakon last year they had their big booth up and were selling the DBZ soundtrack and I'm pretty sure I kept at leat 3 yards between me and them at all times. Sure I dislike the dub but I fully acknowledge the enthusiasm they put into their work, I just wouldn't wanna....y'know....meet' them face to face.

I would definetly bring a tape recorder and go up to them and try to get them to say those 'Things You'd Never Hear a DBZ Character Say". Like, Goku would say "Ah, no thanks... I'm on atkins!" or Vegeta could say "Hey Trunks, after I take a bubble bath, let's go check out Ice Age 2!"
And then I'd release the sound bits on to the internet!

If Kyle Hebert or Eric Vale were there, I'd probably put forth some effort to try and speak to them. I've talked to Mr. Hebert via AIM before n' all...

I've never been to a Con...and chances are I probably won't ever get to one..
...but if I did by some impossible odds get that far I guess I'd have a short conversation, shake hands and say hi. Wouldn't wanna feel awkward by gushing (if something really cool happened) so I'd save all that for after I left and was on my way home.

At the cons I've been to, I have yet to meet a Funi voice actor. Funi panels, but not the actors. I would be respectful as always if I ever met one though.

I actually met Sean Schemmel at a sci-fi convention a few months ago. I didn't really gush. I just said that I was a fan, and asked a few questions about his work on the upcoming video games. He signed my copy of Budokai
3 and a SSJ2 Goku picture for my sister. He was a really friendly and likeable guy. I actually got to speak to him a couple of times. Everyone else was more interested in the bigger actors like David Prowse, Brent Spiner and Ray Park (The last two, who I met as well).
There were more people queueing to meet Veronica Taylor (Ash from Pokemon).
If I could meet some of the Ocean cast, who i'm much more familiar with, then I would definately gush. Especially if it was Brian Drummond or Kirby Morrow.

I've met Chris Sabat, Kyle, and Mr. Satan's actor(name escapes me) and they were nice to me, considering I am a fan of their work. I got Chris Sabat to say "I am the prince of all Saiyans. My hobbies include taking long walks on beaches and adding to my coin collection."
Someday I hope to see Mr. Schemmel. I want to record his longest possible scream.

Watching Michael Dobson do his Nappa voice is an amazing sight. His face gets so freaking angry when he does it. He looks really evil, too ^_^Super Sonic wrote:THough I never met any Funi actors, I met a few former DBZ actors. Met Scott McNeil and Michael Dobson 2 years ago. Didn't ask for any DBZ voices to be done, but I did ask Mr. McNeil to do his Wolverine voice which is similar to his Piccolo.

You should see the "Behind the Screams" feature on the dvd that came with certain versions of Budokai 3. When I was watching it with friends they were creeped out by Duncan Brenneman doing Babidi. He's really into it.Mystic Kami wrote:Watching Michael Dobson do his Nappa voice is an amazing sight. His face gets so freaking angry when he does it. I am one of those that absolutely loves the original Japanese version and is kind of neutral when it comes to the American dub. I like the voices but hate the writing and music.
I've grown to really love FUNimation over the years along with it's actors. I've met Kyle Hebert, Josh Martin, Sonny Strait, Meredith McCoy, John Burgmire, Stephanie Maldony and Justin Cook. I loved talking to them, they are really chill and love the fans. I love how laid back they are and willing to chat with the fans about pretty much anything. When the subject of anime comes up I've mainly talked to them about Yu Yu Hakusho, Fruits Basket and Fullmetal Alchemist.
Lots of good memories there! John Burgmire asking my friend and I to save him from a group of Yoko Kurama fangirls that had been harrassing him for an hour and a half... Sonny Strait drawing me a cool Kuririn sketch, etc...
So these actors are really great people and deserve respect. If anyone hates them on a personal level, then dont go see them, easy as that.
