1999-2003 is certainly more modern than 1989-1996. Plus the fact that the original Kikuchi score takes some of it's roots in late 70s with a tinge of eastern sensibilities.
I agree with Mike/VegetoEX that these discs will appeal to the younger crowd, but I also think they have appeal to people who have positive memories of DBZ enough to pick up a 1-disc bargain bin item but not enough interest to purchase a $20 season. I look forward to seeing these discs next to the bubble gum and batteries at my grocery store!

I do agree that the Original Kai Soundtrack was superb, the replacement however, was not.
Part 1-4 = Excellent
Parts 5-8 = Mediocre
Maybe if Parts 5-8 at least had the original music I could've forgiven its poor picture quality for the authentic music, but it wasn't there.

The "problem" of the Kikuchi music placement in Kai is so exaggerated. Most of the time it's well placed. And it's generally better music than Yamamoto's to start with.
And anyway, it still cuts most of the garbage out, so it has a huge advantage over Z.

Well, I watch the TV rips of Kai (HD), since they have the original score, and I didn't have any problem with the replacement score of the last 3 episodes, so for me, the whole thing is excellent!

Still beats the Bricks- picture wise. I think I've written that before though,haha...
The replacement music does feel poorly placed at times I agree though. But I think it still fits.
It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.
Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.

That's the best episodes with the replacement music, if the rest were as good as it were on these ones it would've been pretty damn good, but it wasn't.

While that's certainly possible, that type of fan already had the orange bricks specifically marketed at them. The kind of place these discs are going to be sent off to (like I noted, those $5 discount racks at the end of aisles at Target and Walmart) are specifically targeted at very young kids, and more specifically at their parents for impulse-purchases of "shut up and watch your damn show, daddy needs a drink tonight!"
And with that, this suddenly just got really weird.
If the kid was that young the parents would probably buy something like a Dora The Explorer DVD for them, at most a Ben 10 DVD. Unless they REALLY didn't care. And if that was the case they would probably pick the first thing they see whether it's the Telitubbies or Nightmare on Elm Street.

Huh, wonder what the 'Seven Fights' thing is. Is it going to be seven episodes, or something, each with a completely different fight? Considering at least one of Goku's best is back in original Dragon Ball...
Gotta say, I am liking the cover-art though. They're pretty nifty.

I hope it's seven episodes and not clips. Because it makes more sense, and also that GameStop special DVD that came with BT3 was just awful because it did that.

Wow, I just realized how many more cool fights Vegeta has than Goku.
They seem pretty confident Goku vs Perfect Cell will make it. Personally, I never liked that fight much, except for the teleport part.
