Some shading work I did on DBZ characters.

So, I took a couple of the outlines of characters I found online, to print and color, I printed them and shaded them in pencil. I'd like critiques. They were shaded with a store brand #2 pencil. Sorry about shit quality, they were taken with a phone, because I don't have a scanner. I'm including before and after.

Very hard to see so I can't really comment. Try lying them down on a flat surface with the light coming from in front rather than backlit so we can see what's on the page clearer.

Ah awesome. Nice job! You ever tried drawing anything yourself from scratch? You've got the shading down nicely.

I appreciate that! Yes I have. I have a pencil and ink Goku outline I drew. The hair is a tad bit messed up, and there's a couple other small mistakes, but it came out good. I'll post it.



I did have a reference. Can't really do so great without.

Going off of your own drawing you just posted, I'll tell what I tell everybody wanting to be the next up-and-coming artist: research proportions and anatomy, and lightly sketch the form before doing the final drawing. I can see just from that image that you tried instantly making the final drawing without adhering to proper proportions; his hair doesn't look like it's really connected to anything and isn't fitting the form of what his head should be for example.

I had a tutorial site years ago, but it seems long gone. With some research and practice, I feel most people can become a decent artist. I'm almost at what I'd consider decent, and I'd probably whip up some examples of some of my advice, but my tablet pen broke on me a few months ago, and I've been neglecting any attempt at fixing it.

I appreciate that. Excellent critique, thank you. I will do some research on those things and work on my sketching. This is another one I did, before I read your post, but it came out better than the Goku.
