I don't see it working as a good Freeza. Even if done snobby, it just wouldn't sound aristocratic enough for my tastes.ringworm128 wrote:I was actually kind of hoping it would have sounded similar to his Vile voice with maybe a more snobbish delivery. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LmrLB79cs2c

Still I was kind of hoping for something different to a Chris Ayers clone, I suppose if that sort of voice works it works but I still was hoping for a more "all powerful dark king" voice. I don't really know how to explain what I mean. I suppose George Newborn's Sephiroth is similar to what I'm suggesting. http://www.behindthevoiceactors.com/voi ... Sephiroth/
Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
I just don't want copying of FUNi voices. We already went through that 15 years ago in reverse. They should be unique, but still convey the spirit and feeling of the original. British Hamill Joker intrigues me though.

I don't think that how Freeza was chosen was based on FUNi's dub as much as it was based on being true to the spirit of the original performance.

I'm hoping that that's the case. My initial thought with Tockar being cast was, "All right! They're trying to adapt the Japanese!" but I had a nagging voice in the back of my mind telling me that FUNimation's dub could have somehow influenced the decision.

Based on other things we've heard so far in terms of who is playing Son Goku, how Drummond has toned down his Vegeta voice, and how the Canadian dub is going about its pronunciation of certain words like "Namek," I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt in regards to adapting the spirit of the Japanese original instead of adapting the FUNimation version.

Still pretty bumbed that they didn't bring back Kalamis, since with the right direction he could have been a phenomenal Goku.

Wait, then do we know who's doing Goku? I haven't checked this thread in a while, so I might of missed this.ringworm128 wrote:Still pretty bumbed that they didn't bring back Kalamis, since with the right direction he could have been a phenomenal Goku.

A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

I'm sorry, but of all the people to know, why would a bunch of abridgers know this before anyone else? What credentials do they really have that qualifies them to have this information? If anything, they should be the last people to know since they technically aren't even legally affiliated with this franchise.TheBlackPaladin wrote:KaiserNeko has only dropped a vague hint, saying that it's pretty ironic that they got Kappei Yamaguchi to dub Goku in "Dragon Ball Evolution." This is, of course, a very vague hint, but the general consensus is that this means whoever is playing Goku is an English voice actor who previously played a prominent role that Kappei Yamaguchi played in Japanese. For that reason, the two biggest suspects are Richard Cox and Alessandro Juliani.

I don't necessarily want to defend how/where I get my information because it puts me in a very precarious situation. I can only say: Ask anyone around here. Whenever I state something as a fact, I tend to be on point.Fennekin wrote:I'm sorry, but of all the people to know, why would a bunch of abridgers know this before anyone else? But why would they tell just a select few fans instead of all of them?KaiserNeko wrote:I don't necessarily want to defend how/where I get my information because it puts me in a very precarious situation. Go to 41:00. Scott McNeil mimed that they finished dubbing DBZ Kai. I wonder if the Calgary cast are also finished or just Vancouver.

Weeelllll.....I wonder if they're finished or if he's just under the impression that they're finished. 'Cause one of the first questions I had when Toei announced the Kai-Buu arc was whether or not that would delay the Ocean dub even further (since they're clearly waiting to release the dub until the whole thing is done, rather than releasing it as they go along like FUNimation did). Actors are not as privy to the production schedule of an anime dub as producers are, so part of me wonders if he just thinks they're done, because the last recording session he had might have been for the Cell saga (before Toei announced that Kai was continuing), at which point the producers may have told him, "OK, that's a wrap!"Solidus wrote:Go to 41:00. ....Which, of course, would have been correct at the time....but I wonder if that's still correct.
Or, put another way, this damn (unreleased) dub continues to tease us even more!

I was wondering this too. I suppose the producers themselves won't really know if they'll pick up the Buu arc until the Japanese version is finished. One thing we do know now is that the Vancouver cast have all finished their parts up to the Cell arc. We already knew that one actor was finished but now we at least know they are all done. That said there is still a chance that the Calgary cast are not finished. I got the impression that they started recording later than the Vancouver cast.TheBlackPaladin wrote:Weeelllll.....I wonder if they're finished or if he's just under the impression that they're finished. As far as waiting to record the Buu arc and releasing when it's fully complete, I don't know if that would matter now. It's going to be at least six months until the actors get back to recording. If the producers were intending to keep the voices consistent by getting the actors to regularly play the roles until completion well that is lost. They started recording in summer 2011 and now they're finished two years later. They seem to wanted do a small bit constantly over a long period of time instead of doing everything in one go. The Buu arc is practically Kai part two and the producers are going to have a period of waiting for this part of the series so I don't see why they shouldn't use that time to market and release what they have done. That said maybe it would be best if they waited for the Buu arc to air before they release their dub of Saiyan to Cell, that way they would be capitalizing on Kai while it is highly popular (again).
If Manga UK are going to release this though (either producer or distributor) we could have a long wait as the last orange brick is only out in mid September.

It would be amusing to find out that Ocean dubbed through the Buu arc before Funimation could get to it.

From what I know, I'm sure that even Toei hasn't finished the Buu arc yet, though.penguintruth wrote:It would be amusing to find out that Ocean dubbed through the Buu arc before Funimation could get to it.

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.
It took a little over 2 years to air kai and probably 3 to produce(could be wrong), and if the buu arc is really 60-66 episodes that probably leaves a year and a half to produce which means the air dates may not actually be until next spring or late fall or whenever they decide to air it.

Man, I hope they don't wait to dub the Buu saga before releasing anything. We could be waiting 2+ more years for this.
