A like and dislike button? That would be kind of cool. :)

Like Reddit? That would be a disaster. It just encourages hivemind voting and little discussion.

Well I guess it could, especially on the 'Fan-created works' thread, but a like button could come in handy, it could stop people from saying stuff like "I agree" and they might instead add something else to the conversation, or they just won't comment as it would be redundant with a like button. :P

Not exactly Like/Dislike, but I'd still like something like this implemented.

Perhaps just have a rule (if there isn't one already - I forget) that explicitly says that posts must add something to the discussion and should not simply be one word answers to agree or disagree with a post.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought ringworm was talking about a YouTube "contact" button, as in the ones under your avatar and ranking, like the PM, Facebook and Twitter ones.

I fully agree with this. I've lost count of how many things I've read here that I could really only really say "I agree" or "that's funny".

Short types of response that don't add much to the conversation are generally frowned upon here as it is. If you agree, you should explain yourself and add to the discussion. That's at least my impression regarding the general accepted discussion format.
A like button would IMO not add much to the discussions here.

Regarding a YouTube button, I guess that it wouldn't hurt.
