Lost Abilities?

Post by MisterFlashdude » Sat May 13, 2006 3:45 pm

Here's where we're going to gripe about all the abilites that just seemed to disappear after their initial use.

I will start with Goku's telepathy. It seemed to develope during the fight with Vegeta for the first time. Somehow, Goku rustled up the ability to telepathically communicate with Gohan and Kuririn. It continued through to the Namek saga, at which point Goku easily read Kuririn's mind to find out everything that's happened on Namek.

My theory? I think he picked up a bit from Kami and North Kaio. My gripe? He totally lost his mind-reading abilities on Namek!

I can think of more lost abilities, but I think I'll give my favorite forum-goers a chance to contribute.

Didn't he use telepathy to read Fat Buu's mind when they were inside the evil Buu?

Well I was always kind of disappointed that the Kaio Ken was sort of forgotten after a while. I know that it was rendered obsolete by the SSJ transformations, but still I always thought it was a cool technique. Plus such a fuss was made about it initially.....Kaio-sama had never had a student able to master it until Goku. It was made out to be some really special and awesome technique.

Wasn't really lost but Vegeta never really used his Galik Cannon attack again after the saiyan or namek saga.

He used it at least once in the Cell saga.

I thought it was Cell that used it.

Yeah, I feel the same way. The Kaio-Ken was awesome at first sight. I always thought it would be cool if Goku was able to go SSJ and use the Kaio-Ken at the same time. That would be awesome.

I would've liked to have seen Gohan use his Mosanko attack at least once in the GT series, or in the Buu saga.

Well dream no more, Grandmaster! That is Super Kaio-ken! And it was used in the filler Anoyoichi Budokai (Other-world Tournament in the dub) that takes place after the Cell saga, during the fight between Goku and Paikuhan!

In my opinion, Gohan lost his 'Mystic' ability, explaining why he could become SSJ and SSJ2 in Dragon Ball GT. My logic? It's been done to death, but I believe that Gohan lost this ability because of his lack of training after Majin Buu onwards into GT. :P
I really, really need to get back into the habit of posting.

How about Piccolo's ability to grow several times his own size? Or his father's ability to cough up minions? Maybe that didn't get passed on...

Indeed, but would Kaioken be as awesome if it was done to death like the Super Saiyan transformation?

He used it once or twice in GT.

Oh yeah! That's right. I forgot about that Tournament. Well, I still say he should've trained the Super Kaio-Ken more to develope a Super Kaio-Ken x 10 or something. 8)

Another ability I would've liked to see Goku do in the series is when he absorbs the energy from a Genki Dama, like he did in Movie #7. That was too awesome! Goku was extremely powerful after doing that. And it looked really cool too.

It seems that most of some characters' "trademark moves" were only used once in the manga.

That was in the dub where they said "Let's read his mind and find out...". In the Japanese version, it's just a flashback sequence. Nothing is said about reading his mind. It was more likely done for the viewer.

Yet another one of Funi's odd "additions" to the script.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

Shishin, Sokidan, Shiyoken...

O'course, I think they got more use in some non-canon portions...but that doesn't really do it for my tastes.

Well, if characters originally did have telepathy, then it's not such a stretch, really.

Personally I always missed the Kaio-Ken, it was such a cool technique that looked great, I was happy when Toei revived it for that short scene....also I miss Yamcha's Spirit Ball, that was just a one-timer in the Manga & seen during the Saiyan Training era in filler & in Movie 3....I kinda wish we saw it a bit more in the cannon world against the Saibaman & even a try against a Cell Jr.
Vegito: What do you call a Goku & a Vegeta? Gogeta sounds nice.

But on subject, I think the biggest reason Yamcha never used the Sokidan again was the lack of real fighting he ever did, canonically speaking, and even non-canon he didn't get much action.

Something for the "dropped plots" thread maybe...

While that's a cute pic (and lord knows needed), can that be changed to a JPEG? Takes an unnecesary amount of time to load on dial-up. =/

... Incidently. Now I want to make a similiar pic for an X-Men board ("This is Rogue. This is Rouge. Got it?")
