Also, I have a question: WHy do the cel's appear to have red outlines whereas in the finished product (the anime) the lines are black? Does it have to do with fading? Or does it have to do with onion skinning?
It's as Dalesy said, the lines have faded over time so when they're scanned in rather than photographed, the light shines through the faded lines making them look kinda orange rather than black. IRL they're black with no light shining through as you can see in my normal photo rather than the scan.

They were using copy machines that copy only lines drawn with charcoal pencils, and colors were painted by hand. Copied lines are far easy to get sun-faded. It's why cels from much older shows in the non-automatic tracing era tend to keep black and sharp lines.

The colors looks so vibrant on those cels! How did they color them? With paint?

Yup, it's all paint. Here's a picture of the back of it!

Woah, that must've been really difficult to paint all the frames! (But it looks so good, so it's worth it)

Just came across my cel whilst painfully subtitling my GT Dragon Box. Interesting to see how much gets cropped and how the colours differ.

Episode 280 for anyone wondering.

Interesting to see how much gets cropped.

Not the exact same frame as the show (look at the distance between Goku's boot and Boo's belt) but it's close enough. :P
Pretty cool cel by the way :)

Words cannot describe my envy! How much did that cost you?!
"You might think you know everything there is to know about me, but really, you're not even CLOSE."

This particular one was $190 and the SSJ4 one on the first page was $136. Not too bad. Strongly considered selling every possession in my house for this http://www.rubberslug.com/shop/item.aspx?i=4974

I'd have bought that Goku vs Boo in an instant! That's an incredible deal! That Vegeta cell is def worth it, I wish I had the funds myself.

Okay, well my cels just came back from the framers. Have yet to unwrap it since I'm at university currently and it turned up back home but I'm quite happy with the result:

A little bit annoyed I didn't wait since I picked up this Vegeta cel the other week:

I'd love this thread to stay alive so if you do have cels you've picked up, be sure to post them here!

Bumping my own thread in hopes of others with cels showing them off too

Just picked this up as a late Christmas present to myself:
It's from the scene where Goku is powering up his 3 x Kaioken against Vegeta.

Thanks to JulieYBM (& the Kanzenshuu animation guide) for help with identifying the animator.

I'm in a terrible mood though. I almost owned this - http://i.imgur.com/jDwxk4y.png - but Paypal fucking FROZE on login and I missed my bid opportunity. Extremely angry. That's a Yamamuro piece from Movie 8.

Oh well, I guess the scene I did end up with is more iconic that a random shot of Vegeta getting thrashed (as nice looking as it is).

I saw that on ebay once and I was thinking about getting it (until I saw the price). It looks awesome, good on you for getting it :D .

That's actually an amazing deal. The only ones on eBay below 150 are just subtle moments or odd inbetweens but anything with great poses and multiple characters like that I usually only see around for 300-500.

The Cells looks so much better than what they do in the animation.
