Re: How much filler you think Boo Arc Kai will remove
The Inside Buu stuff will completely have to go. It messed up a lot of the character's strength, such as having a SSJ1 Goku take down Mystic Gohan.
I didnt care for the Great Saiyaman arc so if that goes I'm fine with it.
Id be bummed if the Otherworld Tournament is cut out, as I love Goku's fight with Pikkon but seeing as people sent to hell cant keep their bodies and we blatantly see Freeza, Cold, Cell, and The Ginyu Force causing trouble down there, I wont be surprised if that all gets cut too.
I personally hope the Goku VS Majin Vegeta fight inst cut too much as well as Base/Super Vegito VS Buu. I wouldn't mind the candy Vegito scene being cut but surprisingly that was in the manga.

The Otherworld Tournament filler was already shown in a clip show at the end of 98th episode, so I think they'll just start at the moment when Gohan is going to high school.

Yes but when that footage was shown, there was no intentions to do a Kai Buu saga at that time. I mean yeah it makes sense now but back then, they put that footage as a tease more than anything. But thanks to the series selling so well overseas, they are doing Kai Buu.

Just because the first fight was better doesn't make the second fight bad. It's better than the one sided fights that happen a lot in the Cell arc. Kneeing each other in the knees isn't remotely close to one of the worst in the series.

Re: How much filler you think Boo Arc Kai will remove
God, I hope they don't cut out the Otherworld Tournament. That was some of the better filler and I can't imagine Kai without it. They can shorten it, though. Anyway, stuff I think they'll cut:
-A significant chunk of the Saiyaman arc.
-Most of the filler during the tournament.
-Half or more of the Buu's body filler
-The aformentioned episode of searching for the Dragon Balls
-A bunch of the Fat Buu vs Vegeta fight (I remember that being really long) and the Super Buu vs Gotenks fight.
-Many, many screwed up fights, like SS Goku vs Illusion Gohan, SS2 Goku vs Pure Buu, Buuhan vs SS2 Goku and Vegeta.
-Probably a huge chunk of the final Pure Buu vs everyone battle.
-Pure Buu's rampage across the universe- or at least a lot of it.
IMO, the Buu Saga has some of the better filler, mostly because it expands or creates new scenes that were not in the manga that surprisingly help pacing by not making everything seem so breakneck and short and exposition-y. The extended Dabura vs Gohan fight (well, most of it), some of the Saiyaman filler, base Gotenks vs Fat Buu, Majin Vegeta vs Goku, the Buu's body filler (bar the illusion fight), the Kaioshin flashback, the extended SS3 Goku and Mr. Buu vs Pure Buu fights, that scene where Vegeta pulls himself out of a crater to taunt Pure Buu, the filler during the "giving energy" sequence, et cetera, are all good things.

Re: How much filler you think Boo Arc Kai will remove
I hope they keep the stuff during the Vegeta vs fat Buu fight. It's one of my favorite fights in the series, and I hnever found it long. The only interesting thing in the Buu innards scenes is the vision fight and the part where Goku and Vegeta are about to be flushed by Buu. The illusion fight doesn't have to make sense in terms of battle powers since they are illusions.
Vegeta: Crap!
Goku: ... is what we're gonna be!
or something to that effect.
I hope they cut down on the cutaways to Mr. Satan, Goten, Trunks, and Gotenks.

Re: How much filler you think Boo Arc Kai will remove
I don't really see the point in making Dragon Ball Kai if they're not going to make it as different as possible from Dragon Ball Z. My hope, at the most, would be reducing the series to forty episodes. I kind of get the feeling that won't happen, though.
Re: How much filler you think Boo Arc Kai will remove
I really liked the Fat Buu vs Majin Vegeta fight. It was one of my favorites. Especially since the stakes were high at the time and ended on a great note.
I always found Gotenks tedious and boring though. They should cut most of that.

Re: How much filler you think Boo Arc Kai will remove
We have to remember that some things won't be able to be cut due to editing problems (character positions, etc...).
For example, if they want Vegetto to become directly Super Saiyan like in the manga for maximum impact on the viewer, maybe it's not even possible, depending if Vegetto's position before and after the cut part seems coherent (I don't remember that scene in the anime, but for example they can't do it if he's saying who he is on the ground but turning into "Super Vegetto" - as he calls himself - in the air.
Anyway, fillers that I'm pretty sure won't get cut out:
- The puppet reproduction of the Cell Game aired at the Tenkaichi Budokai.
- Since the Goku VS Vegeta fight is an important part, I'm sure the fight won't get too much content cut out, at least they will try to keep it longer than the manga and make it one or two episodes long (just like there was an episode centered from beginning to end on the Goku VS Cell fight, I expect one episode being from the first second to the last second about the climax between Goku and Vegeta's fight).
- Vegetto makes a very short appearance, they'll want to keep him around for as long as they can, likely keeping the whole filler when he's not transformed yet. Too bad, cause I think I remember - although my memory may play tricks on me - that it undermines his power by even making him scared for a second because of one of Boo's massive attacks.
- They showed during the Freezer and Cell arcs that they like to keep fillers that show what other characters are doing at the same time (Bulma on Namek, Gohan bringing Bulma and Yajirobe home, Chichi taking care of heart-sick Goku...). So I think they'll keep Bulma and the others' adventures searching for the Dragon Balls.
- As far as I remember, Goku and Pure Boo are not at the same setting than when starting the fight when Goku turns Super Saiyan 3. For this reason, I think his fight as a normal Super Saiyan (or perhaps Super Saiyan 2) will be kept, cause it can't be edited out if I remember well.
Fillers that could be taken out (If the unofficial number of about 66 episodes was false in the end and they do keep cutting large parts to make it as close as possible as the manga):
- The Otherworld Tenkaichi Budokai will go - just like Garlic Junior -, because a whole filler arc goes against the concept of the show and they won't want to start showing things seven years ago. This is the new saga centered around what happens seven years later, there's a good chance they'll want to start in this "new era" from the get-go.
- The Great Saiyaman arc will be heavily cut since it is not a primary focus in the manga, just what serves as the humorous device that will make Gohan and all others participate in the Tenkaichi Budokai. Doesn't need to be longer than the manga for Videl to find out and provoke the chain of events that leads to the tournament.
- The untransformed Gotenks VS Fat Boo fight was pretty short so they might keep it, but they could want to reproduce the manga and therefore just showing him fly away to fight Boo to immediately cut to his flying back being beaten to hell.
- The inner Boo material with memory clones could be cut. But it's also possible that being a short part in the manga, they'll want to keep it lasting like Vegetto, essentially to justify that it was not "just a new setting/adventure/character that was brought on the table to be discarded at the end of the same episode", and therefore keep it all.

Re: How much filler you think Boo Arc Kai will remove
I don't know for a fact but I don't think they keep the filler because they like to but for time reasons. Every episode is about 20 minutes not counting intros, recaps, etc. Plus they have to end in a place that makes sense, so adding small amounts of padding helps. Finally, there's also the issue of cutting around some stuff like Bulma and Ginyu the frog is difficult, if not impossible.
They might have to keep some of the Great Saiyaman filler because in the manga, Videl figures out his identity by his voice, whereas in the anime, it's the cut on his cheek from the pterodactyl's parents that gives him away.

In the anime, the the episode ends with Vegetto on the ground, then in the next episode he starts out in the air, already transformed.Cold Skin wrote:For example, if they want Vegetto to become directly Super Saiyan like in the manga for maximum impact on the viewer, maybe it's not even possible, depending if Vegetto's position before and after the cut part seems coherent (I don't remember that scene in the anime, but for example they can't do it if he's saying who he is on the ground but turning into "Super Vegetto" - as he calls himself - in the air.
I guess it's possible to end a Kai episode with Vegetto formed, then in the recap of the next episode, have him transform at the start of the recap. Kai has had plot material in recaps before, so this would work.

Re: How much filler you think Boo Arc Kai will remove
I'm surprised people think or hope for the Anyoichi Budokai stuff being in Kai. They sure as heck didn't keep Garlic Jr., Fake Namek, or any of that nonsense. I like it as much as anybody, but it has no real business being in Kai.
Like ABED said, the situation in the manga of Gohan being found out as Saiyaman is completely different. My bet is they'll probably just cut out most of the superheroism except the dinosaur event so they can lead up to the cut on his face (if you'll recall, Vegeta never actually left Earth after being teleported to it from Namek in the manga, but obviously Kai had to include him returning from Earth since the whole scenario plays out differently in the anime).
As for Vegetto, it wouldn't be difficult to do a quick cut to that shot of him and Buu hovering before he goes Super Saiyan. Perhaps after footage of Dende and Mr. Satan flying to the battlefield. I do wonder how they'll deal with Buu coming to the Kaioshin planet, though, since Goku and Vegeta were animated raising their Battle Powers to lure him there.

Re: How much filler you think Boo Arc Kai will remove
There's a shot of Vegetto on the ground at the end of episode #269 that can be patched in right after Vegetto is formed. From there Vegetto flies into the air and transforms into a Super Saiyan and the episode ends.
Re: How much filler you think Boo Arc Kai will remove
The only problem with cutting the Heaven tournament is that those characters appear later on in other scenes... so they'll just kind of be there out of nowhere with no explanation.

I wish they'd cut Goku fighting Pure Buu in SSJ2, but I'm not sure if they can do that.
On the other hand, the whole fight in Buu's head was great. Hope that stays.

Re: How much filler you think Boo Arc Kai will remove
Ditto. I also hope they don't cut Gohan vs Buutenks; that fight was much better in the anime, involving Buu using a wide range of attacks and psychological warfare to break Gohan, who was actually able to fight evenly with Buu for the first four minutes (when Buu started taunting him, causing him to lose composure) and put up a little struggle later (he at least broke Buu's hold and kneed him in the face). In the manga, it was just "Buu's PL is maximum and he godstomps, yet Gohan somehow survives the beating for 25 straight minutes". He didn't even use any of Piccolo's techniques.
Question about another fight: didn't Gotenks vs Super Buu last way more than five minutes in the anime due to the detour after Buu throws Gotenks, inducing a plothole? Or did they explain that?

Re: How much filler you think Boo Arc Kai will remove
Five minutes is a nebulous timeframe in DBZ.
Barring that, we just have to take into account the fact that the time shown to us in the time elapsed progress bar is not the same as the time passed in-universe. Time can slow down or speed up for dramatic effect (or the time the show takes to have one shot, then cut to another is actually two events subsequently happening); it isn't implausible that Gotenks' detour didn't amount to much, given that two episodes for five minutes is pretty generous for the usual pacing of the show.

Not much, considering there wasn't that much filler to begin with when you think about it.

I personally hope the Goku VS Majin Vegeta fight inst cut too much as well as Base/Super Vegito VS Buu. I wouldn't mind the candy Vegito scene being cut but surprisingly that was in the manga.
1.) In the manga, Goku and Vegeta after destroying the potara earrings quickly found Gohan and company so I don't know if they will trim it down to this point or not, we will see I guess.
2.) The Great Saiyaman Arc existed, but it didn't go on as long in the manga as it did in the anime. The only thing I am curious about is if they will reanimate the reveal of how Videl learns Great Saiyaman/Gohan's identity because ithe in the manga t was completely different than what we saw in the show.
3.) I agree that the Other World Tournament was cool, I loved the battle between Pikkon and Goku it was interesting to see Goku fight someone who was as strong, if not stronger than he was.
4.) The Goku/Majin Vegeta will most likely be cut down a lot, because in the manga it didn't last as long as it did in the show. Perhaps at most we will maybe two or three episodes. As for Vegito, yeah they will most likely eliminate the candy scene and most of the fight because the character wasn't around as long as what we saw in the anime.
