Sometimes it's the personalities that grab peoples interests. Perhaps he finds Batman boring when he's not interacting/working with others.

The Joker would get old quickly as well, unless he has Batman to fight against.Insertclevername wrote:Sometimes it's the personalities that grab peoples interests. Perhaps he finds Batman boring when he's not interacting/working with others.

Your goku and sherlock comparisons were pretty weak arguments, as for plastic man you got a point as I'd forgotten about him, the beating of superman was just a prove it statement by the writers to prove he could, and fans wanted them to fight, (Plus it would be boring if superman won) yawn, standing up to Darkseid lol double yawn!ABED wrote:You find Batman less interesting on his own than Plastic Man? Batman trained his ass off like Goku and he's a brilliant detective like Sherlock, I don't see how that's not interesting. Wierd, Batman is the only superhero in the DC universe I find utterly boring on his own, and if his Rougue Gallery weren't so great especially the Joker he would of flopped a long time ago, he'd be superman without the cool powers! (Just my take)

Plastic Man is hilarious, Batman is not half as interesting as his villains, and Final Crisis was excruciatingly dull. Not to mention the whole "Batman dies" plot they did after it.ABED wrote:You find Batman less interesting on his own than Plastic Man? Batman's seeming all knowingness (another trait that gets old; Batman wasn't always portrayed that way, at least not at the level he was went Grant Morrison took over) has really soured my enjoyment of the character.

Re: Have you ever cheered for the villain during a fight?
What was weak about my comparisons to Sherlock and Goku? I disagree about the know it all being uninteresting, I like Batgod. I also like how he's portrayed in the Animated Series and the Justice League series. I wasn't referring to Final Crisis, I was referring to Superman/Batman: Apocalypse, the animated movie. I also dig the scene in Rock of Ages where he stands up to Darkseid. I happen to enjoy Morrison's take on Batman. I love men of the mind, which is why I love the show "Sherlock" and Batman. They're the smartest guy in the room, and why I love Goku. Goku's naive about everything else except fighting, there he's a genius. And what is so interesting about the Joker on his own that is more interesting than Batman? The insanity schtick grows old pretty quick. Yes, Heath Ledger's Joker was very interesting, and more interesting than Batman but a lot of that has to do with how weak they made Batman. Joker was damn near omnipotent in that film. The Nolan's wrote Batman as having a thumb up his butt the whole movie. He doesn't get in front of him once. I don't find it interesting to say evil is that powerful. I prefer moments where the hero gets the leg up on the villain like when Goku bitch slaps Freeza as payback.
"Not half as interesting" what praytell is SO much more interesting about his rogues gallery?
Retan, I hate it when people write "yawn", could you write anything more petulant? Instead of giving reasons and supporting your argument, you argue like a high schooler.

Re: Have you ever cheered for the villain during a fight?
Yes I have, A LOT. My top 10 notable examples not in any order :
1 Majin Vegeta
2 Evil green ranger
3 Venom
4 Joker
5 Undertaker every time he's heel
6 Every heel (except ryback) that faces cena
7 Most Star wars villains
8 Poison Ivy
9 Spike in buffy & angel
10 Damon in vampire diaries
I think a good villain can make you cheer for them or sometimes like number 6 you cheer as the good guy is not interesting to you.

Re: Have you ever cheered for the villain during a fight?
Only if the hero is week, but I don't have any idea why you would cheer a homicidal maniac like the Joker unless he's killing some flunky. What's to cheer about Majin Vegeta for? He's a whinny spoiled arrogant dick that can't take it that his father told him he was the strongest, and it ended up not being true.
I think so many are convinced "the devil plays the best tunes" so they write uninteresting heroes.

Re: Have you ever cheered for the villain during a fight?
For me the question would more so be "Have you ever cheered for the villain during a fight?" Since I usually cheer for the bad guy. Basically I just like to see things end in a non obvious way and the bad guy winning usually doesn't happen so isn't so obvious. Plus I find anti-heros and villians to be more interesting.

Re: Have you ever cheered for the villain during a fight?
Sorry Abed, but the reason I find Batman so boring is they call batman a brooding superhero, but what the hell is batman brooding about, it's because his parents got shot infront of him, in the 1940's that might of seemed pretty crippling for anyone, but it's the 2010's, and for that to carry him on for so long as brooding, it makes him seem like drama queen (which I find very boring), especially compared to the likes of wolverine, and other superhero's who have lost so much more.
I was already talking about the Superman/Batman: Apocalypse the animated movie.
Goku is not the reason I watch DBZ sometimes Dragonball and very rarely GT, In fact him and Gohan are the last reason I watch DBZ, much more preferring Vegeta and Piccolo as characters. I did like Goku as a kid in the original series (but he's got very little in common with batman as far a personality goes), and hated him in GT, so excuse me if I don't find batman interesting because you compared him to a character I just don't care that much for.
As for sherlock can you tell me why you find him so interesting just because he's the smartest man in the room, as well as batman, is it because they act like smart asses to everyone else, which I'm not particularly fond of that kind of character, and don't find them that interesting?

Re: Have you ever cheered for the villain during a fight?
Batman doesn't just brood over his parents death. It informs his choices but it's not just punching evil in its face and then brood about his parents. He fights for justice. If all he did was brood, then yeah, he would be uninteresting but he fights bad guys, is a detective, and outwits them are appealing traits. It's not like Wolverine doesn't do his fair share of brooding.Retan wrote:Sorry Abed, but the reason I find Batman so boring is they call batman a brooding superhero, but what the hell is batman brooding about, it's because his parents got shot infront of him, in the 1940's that might of seemed pretty crippling for anyone, but it's the 2010's, and for that to carry him on for so long as brooding, it makes him seem like drama queen (which I find very boring), especially compared to the likes of wolverine, and other superhero's who have lost so much more.

I wasn't saying that Goku was like Batman, just that they were both highly driven. Drive, passion for life, and intelligence (even if it's confined to
You were talking about Apocalypse? That comment was to Kamiccolo. I don't know why you would yawn over Batman standing up to Darkseid. That's badass. Darkseid is superpowerful but not only did Batman defy him to his face and live to tell the tale, he beat him in a game of wits. You'd expect someone who was superstrong to do that, but Batman is an ant compared to him.
Vegeta is interesting but his entitled "I'm the prince, I'm stronger than Kakarrot" can get tiring as anything else. Piccolo is both a villain and a hero, and eventually becomes an unequivocal hero. If you find him the most interesting, that's great, but Piccolo wasn't an antihero, except during the Saiyan arc.
I like different characters for different reasons. Yeah, Vegeta's a spoiled brat, but it makes for interesting conflicts. I happen to enjoy smartasses, plus Sherlock is so damn brilliant that it doesn't feel unwarranted. Also, he has Watson to bounce off of, so there's the interactions that make for interesting material. Lastly, I'm a big fan of mystery stories, and a good detective goes a long way with me. I love smartasses, if they're funny, which Sherlock and Spider-Man are.

I cheered for Freeza when he was being intimidating to the others which sent shivers down my spine, and when anyone kicked Vegeta's ass (except Boo)
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

What does it mean to you when you cheer for something. Whenever I've cheered it's because it was an action I condoned and wanted to live vicariously through that person. Case in point, Goku bitchslapping Freeza or kicking the crap out of Piccolo.

It's not at issue that good villains are great, but to cheer on their brutality and killing of innocents, it's a bit much.TheGmGoken wrote:Its amazing. I LOVE good villains. Why? Not really. It's not like I'm cheering for people like George, HItler, and other people who does similar things in real life. I cheering for a villains that is brutal as fuck. Him impaling Krillin has to be one of my favorite anime-manga moments EVER. Just crushing GOhan and killing people for no reason is what makes Freeza such a great character. We need more villains like him.

What's great about him torturing a great guy like Kuririn? It adds to the viciousness and drama, but it's not something to cheer for.TheGmGoken wrote:Not really. Yes, his brutality makes him a POS, hence a great villain, but that's different than cheering.

Have you watched wrestling? Stone Cold was a heel but he was doing so well at his job that people cheered him. Hence whyhe was turned face at WM16 against Bret Hart. Another example is The Rock and Cm Punk. Cm Punk made fun of a legit heart attack and kayfabed mocked a dead guy(Paul). He still got cheered. Being a great villain causes people to cheer for you.ABED wrote:What's great about him torturing a great guy like Kuririn?
