Fox Movie Rights?
Re: Fox Movie Rights?
You can't make a live-action Dragon Ball film that stays close enough to the source material without looking utterly terrible.

The Avengers was an overhyped piece of crap. The trailer was very misleading, it seemed to be absolutely amazing and then the actual film I was like "this isn't what I was expecting.. *sigh* so boring".
Leave Dragon Ball as is.

Re: Fox Movie Rights?
I don't think Dragon Ball is a prooperty that works in live action. If they ever did a Dragon Ball movie, the DB movies do a pretty good job of doing condensed retelling of the series. The quirky humor is an essential ingredient to DB, but I don't think it would neccessarily translate to live action.
Plenty of studios get in the way of making good movies, it's not relegated to Fox.
Side note, Avengers and Man of Steel were excellent. Joss Whedon is my master, and Avengers gave me everything I wanted and more from a superhero team up film. And Man of Steel did a great job of fleshing out Clark's character. I felt like I knew why Clark made the decisions he did. It was way more emotionally satisfying than Donner's film.

Does anybody know what VAs Fox will be using for BOG?
Re: Fox Movie Rights?
Yeah Justin Chatwin as Goku, James Marsters as Piccolo and Birus, Emmy Rossum as Bulma.SuperGhostKamikaze wrote:Does anybody know what VAs Fox will be using for BOG?
We actually don't know if FOX will even be taking care of the voice acting.

I think the next live action film will likely have a serious tone. DBE was pretty campy, it felt like a 90's comic book movie in my opinion. I think a tone of The Avengers and JJ's Star Trek movies can work.

Re: Fox Movie Rights?
I personally don't think DB(Z) would really translate to live action all that great. But if they were to do it again I would prefer they act like DBE never existed and make a DBZ movie that was mostly action using something similar to Man of Steel. You could actually make the saiyan saga decently similar to Man of Steel or even the saiyan saga and namek saga (but with more changes). But I would rather they just did a continuation of the anime in a live action movie. So maybe just give us a quick recap of things that happened at the start of the movie but make the movie something totally new that happens after the buu arc and not a reimagining or retelling of any of the stories that we've already seen.

I rather not have the movie be like Man of Steel. Sure the action scenes are great, the story was all over the place and the characters didn't feel very fleshed out. I enjoy the movie, but I rather not see a DBZ movie be similar to it. I think another live action film will likely be based on DBZ. The name "Dragon Ball Z" will sell more then calling it simply "Dragon Ball". I think adding Evolution to the title hurt the movie even more since it made the movie sound so cheesy. Even if you never watch or read DBZ, you know what it is because of the name.

Re: Fox Movie Rights?
They might want to put Z at the end, just because it is the more identifiable series.
I don't think a 4 or 5 year old fighting would work in live action. It's a shame DBE was so bad, I'm a big Buffy fan and Spike is my favorite character. James Marsters is incredibly talented and he's a fan of the show. Too bad the movie didn't do him any favors.
What was all over the place about Man of Steel? Do you mean "fleshed out"? What's "fresh out"?

Re: Fox Movie Rights?
Man of Steel's pacing was all over the place. I didn't like how they handle Superman's flashbacks since they felt very awkward and the supporting cast in the movie felt like they didn't had any development at all. I didn't care what happens to the people at Daily Planet since it felt like they were just there for no real reason. I would like to have a DBZ movie with good character development for once. The character development in DBE was so bad seeing that Piccolo and everyone else in the movie felt so dull.

I had the exact opposite experience; the trailer had me very worried that the movie might suck, but I was pleasantly surprised. I'm curious as to what exactly in the trailer had you so excited.dbboxkaifan wrote:The Avengers was an overhyped piece of crap. Re: Fox Movie Rights?
What development did they have in the Donner films? Perry comes off as likeable, that's all you really need to know, and other things take precident to a minor character. Why should you care about a minor character in trouble? They're good people in danger, that's really all you need to know. I'm ambivalent to how the flashbacks were handled. Some worked better than others, but the idea was CLark would see something that triggered a memory and we'd see how he learned a lesson which shaped who he is. The pacing was fine, though the fights dragged a little.Hellspawn28 wrote:Man of Steel's pacing was all over the place. When you say "character development" what are you looking for in both Superman and Dragon Ball? The dullness in DBE wasn't due to lack of development. It was badly written and acted.

100% Agreed. It's almost sad too as if you watch him at cons talking about the film (as it was been made) HE made them colour him green , he made his look more monstrous/Alien he was so passionate yet ....they just ruined it. Can you Imagine how much worse it would have been if had NOT kept getting things fixed.ABED wrote:I'm a big Buffy fan and Spike is my favorite character.
