How did Piccolo become good?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Didn't Piccolo have his father's memories too.

So for a long time that would have been the majority of his knowledge and experience, and eventually he would have replaced that with his own which let him learn and change.

Remember, it's HARD MEN making HARD DECISIONS! When the hero makes a HARD DECISION, it is always for the good of everything in the world, and always works.

It was the only decision.

That's right! HARD TIMES call for HARD MEN to make the HARD DECISIONS!

Better than dying. You trying to draw any parallel to the real world is ridiculous when we're talking about beings that can destroy entire planets. Teaching a child who had latent powers was the right thing.

It was said that Kami had some evil in him because of humans.

If he stayed in Namek he would be pure good.

That's pretty much what shonen manga is all about.

- The man who killed his father showed him mercy, despite being told by everyone to finish him off
- 5 years to dwell on that act whilst training for revenge
- Becomes a hypocrite: avenges the man who killed his father and orphaned him, consequently making another person into an orphan. Having made him an orphan instills guilt, training with a fellow orphan instills empathy

Not too difficult to grasp.

Sometimes I'm convinced that Piccolo is the most "normal" character in the show. His character development actually makes sense.

Unlike Gohan's.

Oh, I didn't think about him being guilty over making Gohan an orphan due to being one himself. That's a pretty cool way of looking at it.

Gohan was an orphan during the Buu arc.

That's true. Forgot about Chichi completely...

Replace orphan with "having your father killed", and it fits the bill just the same.
