Didn't Piccolo have his father's memories too.

So for a long time that would have been the majority of his knowledge and experience, and eventually he would have replaced that with his own which let him learn and change.

Better than dying. You trying to draw any parallel to the real world is ridiculous when we're talking about beings that can destroy entire planets. Teaching a child who had latent powers was the right thing.

- Becomes a hypocrite: avenges the man who killed his father and orphaned him, consequently making another person into an orphan. Having made him an orphan instills guilt, training with a fellow orphan instills empathy

Sometimes I'm convinced that Piccolo is the most "normal" character in the show. His character development actually makes sense.

Oh, I didn't think about him being guilty over making Gohan an orphan due to being one himself. That's a pretty cool way of looking at it.
