Embarrassing DB-Related Things You've Done Online

Post by DragonBoxZTheMovies » Wed Jul 24, 2013 7:26 am

Got the idea for this thread after listening to the 6th episode of the podcast.

Like the episode, I'm essentially inviting Kanzenshuu-ers to come out and embarrass themselves.

So, fire away! What are some things that you did during your early days in the online DB community that you look back on and cringe? Was it a video? A post? A dumb question? The way you initially presented yourself to the community?

I gotta list that I'll post when I get around to it.

Well...nothing specific comes to mind, but during the good few years when I was a total dubbie with no...well, not 'no interest' in the original Japanese version, but no true exposure to it - I'm sure I said quite a few things that I would now want to smack my younger self for.

Other than that though...the only thing I can think of is an old Bardock-centric fanfic of mine that, while I'm still fairly proud of some of the writing, I'm not particularly happy with some of where the plot was and where it was heading, despite getting fairly good feedback on it. And then there's the fact that I let it sit there with no updates for like 4 years before I finally took it down...yeah...

I don't know if Skype counts as online but I called my girlfriend Zangya before.

That is like the best Freudian slip ever. Please tell me she likes DBZ and got it.

Well, I wrote the first chapter of a fanfic that was meant to be a rewrite of Z with the movies fitting into continuity (with some other changes like the humans not being shit) but the first chapter was just the Raditz battle with no real changes from the manga plot other than battle powers. I even had it in my signature when I first joined here. I've taken it down and have no plans of letting it ever see the light of day again >.>
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

Some of my old posts from 2002 - 2005 on Gamefaqs and Gamestop were pretty awful. I hate how my old Gamestop reviews are still on the site.

In 1999 when FUNimation announced they were releasing "Sleeping Princess in Devil's Castle" uncut, I sent them an e-mail asking if that meant it was in Japanese, and how I hoped not because I wouldn't want to buy it if it was. That still makes me cringe to this day...

This little gem here.
What kind of game besides fighting they should make a dbz game out of?

(ADMIN NOTE: It's nearly impossible to re-write/correct that without making an almost entirely-new sentence... so... What types of games, other than the fighting genre, should be explored in future DBZ video games?)

But the most cringe worthy thing I've done was years back when I went on Kyle Herbets live stream and said things in the chat like "say IT"S OVER 9000! in Gohan's voice." Damn I feel like cringing just from typing it.

There was this DBZ movie 3 fandub project that got too many people involved and sort of spun out of control...

Similar to what Gyt Kaliba said, I use to be a dubbie, I hated Kai for absolutely no reason and the thought of watching DBZ in Japanese never crossed my mind.

I promised you guys a list, right?

Well it's not very interesting and I'll make it very brief since I'm lazy. If anyone wants me to elaborate, I'll gladly do so.

- In 2008/2009, I made a range of terrible DBZ videos- two of them used a copy of DBZ Movie 4 that I downloaded off Limewire. One of these videos was a typical Bruce Faulconer re-scoring of scenes from the film and the other was an "AMV" using Disturbed's Inside the Fire. Both were equally terrible, but I was honestly quite proud of them at the time. I still have them actually...maybe I''ll upload them some time, for old time's sake. The third video was, ugh, what I called DBZ Movie Breakdown, in which I went through DBZ Movies 8, 10 and 11 and analyzed Broly's strength...yeeeeeaaaah.

- I won't go into specific details, since it's happened quite recently. I've sent a number of ridiculous emails and PMs to Mike and Julian with a load dumb requests and needless rambling...I'm so glad that they never replied to some of them. :silent: A lot of this was around the time of the release of Battle of Gods.

- In 2010/2011, I'd go through different comments sections on DBKai videos on YouTube and argue with dub fans who said that Kai sucks. Y'know the ones that go, "Dis seriz needs FALCONer!1!!", "originals betta", etc. And I'd reply with "You don't know what you're talking about" and "Actually in the original Japanese version it...." The amount of thought and effort I put into those comments makes me shake my head.

Such an accurate representation of the typical Z dub fanbase.

You will upload them. All 3 of them.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Being asked to write a fanfiction on Broly coming back again. I have worked on it, but the more I read into Dragon ball the further I get from finishing it. I'm not even sure if it's any good anymore. It's like 20 pages and I'm still debating if I want to finish it. I'm afraid to find out if it's really terrible and cliche.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

I actually worked on an embarrassing super massive cross-over fanfiction back in late 2008. Due to people hating it, I eventually stopped, but the thought of that still makes me cringe of this date.

Although I've never said this to any one online but when watching Ep. 1 of DBZ I thought Raditz was Vegeta before he got a hair cut.

The obligatory, initiatory, AMV of Mirai Trunks set to Linkin Park's 'In The End'.
