Buu Saga: The Best/Worst Saga In DBZ
I'm curious to know why some fans say the Buu Saga is the best, and why some say the Buu saga is the worst saga in DBZ. Also, what do you think of the Buu saga ?
Re: Buu Saga: The Best/Worst Saga In DBZ
To me it's the best because I find the art kick ass, and especially the coloring techniques used in the anime, plus I love the fusions, in particular Gotenks.PrinceVegetto wrote:I'm curious to know why some fans say the Buu Saga is the best, and why some say the Buu saga is the worst saga in DBZ. In the "Z" era, it's my favorite because art, the silly Buu (every form), Vegetto, This arc is probably is most like the "Son Gokuu Arc", "21st Tenkaichi Budoukai Arc" and the Muscle Tower ~ Penguin Village portion of the Red Ribbon Army Arc.

The Buu saga felt rush and it had so many new characters throw in at once. It's the weakest saga in DBZ, but I still enjoy it.

Re: Buu Saga: The Best/Worst Saga In DBZ
Every thing was new and then turned into useless. Fusion = Useless. Mystic = Usless. SSJ3 = Useless till final battle. The potara was the only thing that worked. I didn't like how everyone was a dumb-ass. Only Vegeta had BASIC common sense. Goku was an asshole. Only Super Boo was interesting. Everything felt rushed.

Where do I even begin? There's so much stupid shit in this portion of the series. Dabura going into the meditation chamber (aka the filler chamber), so much build up for Gohan being the main character only for Mystic Gohan to end up completely pointless in the end, Piccolo babysitting Goten and Trunks, all of the stupid, convoluted Buu forms, Buu's death teased four or five times, everyone else dying, Tien appearing for no reason just to get his assed kicked, terrible pacing (that's saying a lot with this series), the boring ass Vegito fight and yet another example of a character going, "Heh. Let's see how strong you really are!
" then getting beaten for the billionth time... I could go on and on. Super hardcore bad.

I was talking about how he just ended up defusing inside Buu's body, sorry if I wasn't specific enough.

Well, technically he lost the fight. As in, at the end, Buu was still standing, and Vegetto wasn't. Kind of a "losing the battle to win the war" type thing.ABED wrote:When did Vegetto get beaten?Kuwabara wrote:Where do I even begin? There's so much stupid shit in this portion of the series. He didn't lose the battle, his mission was always to infiltrate Buu and retrieve his loved ones, so mission accomplished.Kamiccolo9 wrote:Well, technically he lost the fight. That was his mission, but to accomplish his mission, he had to lose the fight. Without throwing the fight, he wouldn't have been able to free the others.ABED wrote: He didn't lose the battle, his mission was always to infiltrate Buu and retrieve his loved ones, so mission accomplished.
And Buu's body forced Vegetto to defuse, so Buu was the last one standing. Unintentionally, Buu "defeated" Vegetto. He just didn't beat Goku and Vegeta.

Re: Buu Saga: The Best/Worst Saga In DBZ
Buu wasn't the last one standing. Vegetto wasn't knocked down. Yeah, he defused, but Goku and Vegeta were alive and well and were able to take away the source of Buu's power. That's not a defeat. Regardless, it's not like Vegetto was pointless, without that power, both Vegeta and Goku would've likely been killed instead of absorbed. Something came of it, which was clever on Toriyama's part, something far more clever and interesting than if he had just defeated him or even gotten absorbed by accident.Kamiccolo9 wrote:That was his mission, but to accomplish his mission, he had to lose the fight. Vegetto ceased to exist. I wasn't tallking about Goku and Vegeta though; the fight between Buu and Vegetto ended with him being absorbed and defused. I never said Vegetto was pointless. Neither Goku nor Vegeta had the power to goad Buu into absorbing them that Vegetto had. By losing the fight to Buu, Vegetto won a tactical victory, since it enable his component parts to ultimately win the final battle.

We'll just have to disagree on that point because I don't consider it losing the fight.

I liked it but it is the weakest of the arcs. I enjoyed the new characters even if they did become useless and I like the idea of fusion.

Re: Buu Saga: The Best/Worst Saga In DBZ
I totally tuned out of the Buu Arc when watching DBZ and ashamedly, I've never actually gotten around to watching it all
For me it just felt like too much at once, SSJ3, fusion, goten and trunks, Great Saiyaman and Krillin with hair. There was a lot of this super powerful stuff happening when a couple of arcs back Super Saiyan was just a legend and still had that mystic, dragonball-ish feel to it.

I agree with you. If Goku and Vegeta had failed to eventually beat Buu, Vegetto would have failed completely and would have been completely defeated due to the backfiring of his plan. Since Goku and Vegeta actually managed to beat Buu, even though Vegetto's plan backfired and he ceased to exist, the "war" as you say was eventually won.Kamiccolo9 wrote: Vegetto ceased to exist. The plan didn't backfire, it didn't go exactly as planned, in fact it was an unexpected bonus that they got split up. The plan wasn't to remain Vegetto, it was to save their loved ones.rereboy wrote:I agree with you. Re: Buu Saga: The Best/Worst Saga In DBZ
Yeah, whatever you say, man... It was pure luck that Vegeta and Goku actually managed to defeat Buu after Vegetto's plan backfired. Vegetto had planned to free the ones absorbed but he has confident in his plan because no matter what he was much stronger than Buu. When he defused, suddenly all that was left were Goku and Vegeta who were much too weak to face plain Super Buu, let alone Gohan-Buu. If Buu had noticed that something was wrong before they reached the ones absorbed and investigated what was happening, it would be an instant game over. But even with that luck, they were still too weak to face plain Super Buu, so they were lucky yet again that Fat Buu was also there, which was something that no one could have predicted since he was just eaten and not absorbed like the others. So in short, yeah, Vegetto's plan backfired and it did so in a big way, so much so that its actually surprising that Goku and Vegeta managed to eventually defeat Buu.
In a predicted best case scenario, Goku and Vegeta would have been able to release the others, but plain Super Buu would still be too much for them. It was the totally unexpected presence of Fat Buu there that saved everyone's asses and stopped the backfiring of Vegetto's plan from turning into everyone's death.

Re: Buu Saga: The Best/Worst Saga In DBZ
I always thought the Buu arc started off particularly strong, but by the time Gotenks came along it began to fade a bit. I still think the climax for the arc was really good and that final Genki Dama was a brilliant way to bring in a bunch of old characters and round off the series nicely.
By the way, the Anime version of Grey Buu vs. Fat Buu has some amazing animation.
