Not everything has to be mass release these days, selling to a niche market that's either nostalgic or wants to see a release they've only heard about, is a good strategy.

Yeah, but some people, like myself don't get how FUNimation now decides to do a nostalgic release when they've never done that before. When I speak up about it, I can always expect you to respond to my post with the same "STOP NOT LIKING WHAT I LIKE!" Kind of post.

I mean, you're pretty open about looking at cartoon porn. Why would you do that? It's fiction. The proportions of these women are not possible to reach in reality.

I don't always but It's been how many pages and you are still harping on this. I am actually not that big a fan of this release, but that's more due to me already owning it, so there's little reason for me to buy it again. You keep going on and on about how much this bugs you, to the point where you said this was the dumbest thing they've ever done, or something to that effect. I don't get why it bugs you this much.

It hasn't even been a week since people started getting these sets (I'm only counting the pre-orders right now since IDK for sure if the set has been released at mass retail yet) and already you're saying that this set is below the Dragon Boxes in terms of profit? I don't know about everyone else but to me that's just wrong on so many levels, how about you actually give people who didn't pre-order this set some actual time before you go making such unfair claims, also you think this is the dumbest thing FUNi's ever done, or something to that effect? What did you suddenly forget the Orange POS sets?
If anyone has any of the DB/DBZ/DBGT or Maho Tsuaki Sally Japanese single DVD's that they'd be interested in selling send me a PM and I'll see if we can work something out. ;).

What better encodes? The Pioneer movie releases looked a bit better than their series releases, which I think look good enough, and you can see in the screnshots of the new set that there is blurring, random out of focus areas and edge enhancement on the new releases, so I think you should be happy with you've got for the movies honestly.

Funimation aren't exactly against milking a franchise, I definitely agree there are other areas they should visit before making this kind of release (for example the movies or the blu-ray release) but if it's a one off collectors sorta' deal and I don't see the real harm, it's definitely better than no release and it means that I don't have to trawl around collecting different DVD sets (against my OCD) to watch the DBZ I grew up with.

At least now that it's done you probably won't have to see this kind of release again for awhile, I'm hoping they pick the level sets back up now.

I know many seem to dislike the idea of milking the franchise, but one could argue that it's good to keep the series alive.

Anyone else get the feeling that this is a limited release? Has Funimation said anything about this? I'm just nervously waiting for this set to reach DBox 2 territory...money can't come to me fast enough!

On a side note, I wish this set contained the Ginyu Assault episodes to really capture the feeling of what it was like to be a DB fan at the time. Pretty sure those episodes opened with Rock the Dragon anyway.

They did, despite FUNimation's claims to the contrary in their "Nice Package" video.

Question to guys who bought this or are thinking of buying this. Would you say Rock the Dragon still holds up and gets you pumped, like how it did for us back then and how the X-Men theme did with you recognizing it upon hearing? (For kei17, this is what I mean).

I'm completely indifferent when it comes to this release, but I did check out the "Hey, Nice Package!" video. The whole thing looks pretty darn cool.

Those "sleeve" disc holders worry me, though. I'm hoping that doesn't catch on with future releases. Those discs are probably scratched to the point of being unplayable.

I just honestly can't believe they devoted an entire page to posting the "lyrics" of "Rock the Dragon." Seriously, FUNimation? I hope your tongue was firmly planted in your cheek when you did that because the song is comprised of only eight words! Do you really think people needed a guidebook to explain it to them?

And for those needing clarification: dragon, rock, the, ball, z, come, get, me

I HATE those, It's the reason I hate the Simpsons packaging. Whoever decided that should get a swift kick in the gonads.

Speaking of the weird blurring, I guess it's a result of zooming in the interlaced footage. From what I've seen, they cropped the overscan area (black bars on the sides) like the Blue Bricks, but this time they seem to have done it without reverse telecineing.

I highly doubt it. I don't think that FUNimation has the rights to that portion of the dub. Only the first 53-edited episodes of the both the Saiyan and Namek sagas.

It's really doubtful at this point. If this set miraculously sells well enough then who knows maybe they might look into acquiring those episodes but Funimation don't exactly have a track record of catering to UK fans and their main American market will have zero nostalgia for it.

Well I've ordered this. I was reading some of the reviews on amazon and one of them mentions that the "Now back to our show" eye catches are included.

As for the later Ocean dub I really don't think there would be enough demand for that. In the UK we got both the Funi and Westwood dubs and the majority of fans are content with either one or the other so seeing as we've already had a Funi release I can't see many people forking out the cash.
