To quote a quick summary of the show from the Something Awful forums,
Why is this relevant? Because the very next game he'll be playing, in the episode to air August 8th, is "good" old Dragonball Z Super Butoden itself. Also known as Retro Game Master, Game Center CX is a Japanese reality television program centered around playing videogames. Shinya Arino works for the fictional company Game Center CX. Some might say he has a dream job there, but it often ends up rubbing him the wrong way. Every week the company sends him a famous retro-game, and it's his job to show the viewers at the ending screen of that game. He must finish these games, no matter how long it takes, or face demotion within the company. This is where the show becomes less like a let's play and takes on more of the masochism Japan's game shows are known for. For some people finishing these games might be an easy task, but not for Arino. He's a middle-aged family-man who played a fair share of games in his childhood, but has fallen out of practice. He could be described as average at his best and awful at his worst. Although the show lasts only an hour due to some great editing, Arino rarely takes less than 10 hours real-time to complete his challenges. Groaning, shouting, and the liberal application of cooling-pads ensue.
tl;dr: A middle-aged Japanese man is held hostage until he can finish notoriously hard games. He's not very good at games.
Oh, and Arino is notoriously terrible at fighting games.
