Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods"

It would be nice if a US release (theatrical or home video) was announced before the Japanese home video release date, either at Otakon or the next Comic-Con, but I'm starting to wonder if we'll have any announcement before the year's end.

And I wonder why they're taking so long, especially for a country as important as the US!
Dubbing a 1h30 movie must not take much time, it could be ready soon. But even if they're not producing/releasing it soon for some reason, I wonder why they haven't clearly said "we'll do it, we're preparing it, it's coming".

Perhaps it is the same thing I suspect from France: they want to dub the Kai Boo arc leading to the movie first, to keep the (re)translation/dialogues/vocab/actors consistent, dubbing Battle of Gods as in the direct continuity of Kai as if it was just another episode (albeit a special "high budget" one) located at the end.

There's usually a lot of legal stuff involved in licensing, especially out to such a big and potentially lucrative country like the US. Of course, we should also take note that there is perhaps a fear that Japanese fans will simply import the American release, which means less money for the production committee. I wouldn't be surprised if the US doesn't get Battle of Gods for a year or more because of that.

Slight side note:

I just picked up FUNimation's "Rock the Dragon" DVD set. In the hardcover booklet that it comes packaged in, there's a DBZ timeline. Here are the last two entries:

2009 - FUNimation releases Dragon Box 1 (Episodes 1-42).

2013 - Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods movie releases in Japanese theaters, making it the first original Dragon Ball series work in 17 years.

I'd find it interesting that they'd mention it in an official Dragon Ball release if they didn't own the rights to it.

Doesn't mean anything; The Dragon Books that came with the R1 DRAGONBOXes mention JoJo's Bizarre Adventure in the timeline for DB's original run, a series FUNimation has no ties to.

For those who are interested He is the voice of Bora in the original DB series but he's mostly known for voicing Buzz Lightyear and Lord Voldemort. He also voices Max Tennyson, Ben 10's grandpa. I much preferred Jesse Conde whom the fans asked for Bills but Orozco is great too. He's also worked before on dbz which is awesome too.

I don't think that happen before. I'm betting that we might get a BOG screening next year at Otakon and a possible DVD/Blu-Ray release later winter, or early 2015. It just takes time and it will be here before you know it. People forget that we had to wait 10+ years for the other DBZ movies to come out here in the US. A year or two is nothing.

Wendel Bezerra, the Brazilian voice of Goku has confirmed that the movie will have all the original cast from the series.

I hope not. That limited edition set wasn't cheap, and I need a couple of years between the Japanese and US releases to justify spending all of that money.

Well I'm happy the original cast is back for the movie but... things in latinoamerica are in uproar, they said we would have all voice actors but New Art dub, the company that is dubbing the movie doesn't want to even call Laura Torres because of some troubles they had in the past with her. and everything is pointing out that they won't even call her and they are getting away with it. Mess with all the other voice actors but Laura... she's the most loved of them all DX

Afterall he's the most feared as far as I'm aware.

Sounds like you guys gotta agressively demand they being her back for Goten. If they're bringing back most of the original cast and the fans asked for the original cast. It only makes sense, even despite their (probably small) beef with each other.

Already doing that, there's a facebook page with more than 100.000 members and we're on a movement posting endlessly in diamon films pages and all that, The fans that are in Mexico will make a March I think, i hope this works DX

I think they are doing Buu Kai first before getting the movie. Plus they are recording for Battle of Z which has Bills in it so we may get a glimpse of who will voice him.
