Just because it happens doesn't mean it's an okay thing, ya know. That's like saying something such as "some people cheat on tests, so it's totally okay for me to cheat too," or even, "people steal, so it must be okay to."This is more than just being "subjectively" respectful or disrespectful. If an artist DOESN'T want his works to be altered, as a decent human being with common sense, you just don't do it. More like, if a person doesn't want something done to him, you shouldn't forcibly do it anyways.

even from a bystander's point of view, that sounded really insensitive. Are you saying that if that happened to other people, it would be a bigger deal? And that if he didn't look, he is going be okay with it?

It's subjective whether it's good or bad, and whether it's as bad as cheating and stealing. And an artist wanting his work unaltered isn't the same thing as a person not wanting something done to him.

If people want to alter artwork, they can do it. If it bothers you, don't look at it. It's not a crime to alter artwork in this case.

There should be similar works done by other artists. Maybe they'll be willing to let you alter some of their works instead.
I don't understand why you're even trying to justify your actions when it's rather obvious that it is wrong. When someone doesn't want something done to him, (and yup, taking his artwork and changing it against his will/request not to do so is doing something to him) then you just don't do it.

No. People alter artwork because hey have arms. of course they have the ability to do so. But that doesn't mean that they should especially when the artist has specified and even requested for people not to do so.
Bringing "subjectivity" into the equation and saying that he just doesn't have to look at it won't convince him to be okay with this, btw.

Someone not wanting something done to him isn't the same thing as someone not wanting his artwork unaltered. Just because the artist doesn't want his artwork altered doesn't mean altering is wrong. All I want is the red fur changed to golden. It's really not a big deal.

Modifying or editing any creative piece of work without proper permission, and especially in defiance of the creator telling you not to, is copyright infringement. I don't own the character or franchise, but I do own the art and the idea represented within. No one has my permission to edit it in any way, so don't. Redraw it if you want to change something.

All I have to say on the matter, go back to Super Saiyan 5 discussions.

Jeez, what is wrong with you? When an artist explicitly states that you don't alter their work, you listen to that and don't question it. It doesn't matter what you perceive as being morally right or wrong because that goes out the window when the creator says something straight up like -'hey, don't alter my work'.

Anyway, that should be that. It doesn't need debating anymore, what I just said is objective and if someone chooses to disobey that, well...then they're an asshole.
