Your work isn't copyrighted. Simply modifying fanart isn't copyright infringement.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but modifying copyrighted material is only infringement when you're doing it for profit.

Jeez, what is wrong with you? When an artist explicitly states that you don't alter their work, you listen to that and don't question it. It doesn't matter what you perceive as being morally right or wrong because that goes out the window when the creator says something straight up like -'hey, don't alter my work'.

Anyway, that should be that. It doesn't need debating anymore, what I just said is objective and if someone chooses to disobey that, well...then they're an asshole.

It shouldn't be that. You shouldn't be the one to say where this ends. You can't say something and expect it to end when you're not a moderator.

You don't have to follow what an artist says. If he doesn't like it, that's his problem. You're not breaking the law by altering it.

Modifying or editing any creative piece of work without proper permission, and especially in defiance of the creator telling you not to, is copyright infringement.

I'm sorry but this is not remotely correct and I have to weigh in here.

If anything, by drawing a peice of art from another persons franchise, like Akira's in this respect, is closer to copyright infringement than someone recoloring your fan art. Nothing aside from the moral implications can stop someone from editing someone elses art work (unless actually copyrighted.)

Just because you drew something doesn't make it copyrighted either. It may be your intellectual properly, but has no legal protection. There is a lot of paperwork involved with having something actually copyrighted, and even then, because this is based on an existing franchise that is already copyrighted, you wouldn't even be able to copyright your fan art, as you don't own Dragon Ball.

The only thing that constitutes infringement is if you take it and claim it as your own or attempt to sell it for real dollars, and again legally your fan art does not follow copyright law, and would hold no water in court.

There is a reason most artists sign and water mark their art before putting it on the internet.

I am not condoning taking someones work or editing it, especially without permission, but I feel you need to realize your art is not as protected as you think it is once you throw it in the public domain like the internet.


On Topic: Since SS4 made a large design change to the characters looks, that it becomes the new SS1 and additional levels would add upon the SS4 design. The white hair (although cool) doesn't really make sense, and I prefer the golden hair myself. I like how they become more rigid and primalistic as they approach SS4 though, and I feel SS5 should continue with this style.

First off, Dr. Machismo, you got a real attitude problem. TheDevilsCorpse asked you not to alter his work, he redrew that piece and he said that if you want to alter it further, redraw it yourself. No biggie, all he's asking is for you to respect his work.

TheDevilsCorpse, dude, you're cool an all, but you need to lighten up. As people have said, once your work is on the internet, you're subjected to this kind of shit. Especially if you're doing fanart, you don't own anything at all. If anything, you're the one who might be liable for copyright infringement.

As a final note, all this copyright infringement and legal stuff is subjective because it changes from country to country. Not all legal systems work the same way.

Again, you should respect the request of the original author. It's a simple request and when you don't comply to it, you are disrespecting the person, it is clear as crystal.
