Poll option for threads
Would it be possible to get a poll option for threads?

Re: Poll option for threads
I imagine people would just vote and leave without taking part in the actual discussion.

Re: Poll option for threads
Yeah, I think that's the main reason why a poll option hasn't happened and isn't likely to happen. The ability to just click on your opinion and leave doesn't do much to encourage actual meaningful participation in threads.Insertclevername wrote:I imagine people would just vote and leave without taking part in the actual discussion.

Re: Poll option for threads
I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing, though. There are some threads where someone might want to answer without being dragged into an ongoing debate, a poll would help that.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

And it seems to me that a poll won't deter the people who have things to say. But it could cut down on the simple "I agree" posts.Saiga wrote:I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing, though. Re: Poll option for threads
It would be very nice to have one. Just check threads where people ask "What's your favorite movie?", and you simply see plain answers like "Movie 1" or "10th Anniversary".
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

That's exactly what we strive to avoid, though. A poll may be useful for certain things, but simply asking people what their favorite X is and having them respond with only that much runs contrary to what we try to do on these here forums. It doesn't make for conversation.DBZGTKOSDH wrote:It would be very nice to have one. Re: Poll option for threads
I think what DBZGTKOSDH is saying is that it would cut down on these kind of answers. If those one/two word answers are absent due to people polling over posting, then the only posts left are ones that are contribution to an actual discussion.SaiyaJedi wrote:That's exactly what we strive to avoid, though. Re: Poll option for threads
Sometimes I think Kanzenshuu goes a little too far with the "must have conversation" motto. I know of forums that have poll options and there's plenty of conversation going on, heck most forums with off topic sections are thriving just as much as Kanzenshuu even though OT's apparently kill forums but that's a whole different story. But yeah, even if a poll option caused a difference it would barely be noticeable and as others said it would help cut down on "I like Movie x" posts.

Re: Poll option for threads
I agree we need one. I'm on a pro wrestling website and they got a poll option. The amount of post is the same if not slightly more than Kanzenshuu. Funny because the amount of conversations increased when the polls was introduced.
I agree. I don't think every single user have to have a conversion. They could just vote and be on their way. Some people are not conversation people or not good at explaining themselves.I think Kanzenshuu goes a little too far with the "must have conversation" motto.

If that's the case then what's the point of joining a forum?TheGmGoken wrote:I agree. I don't think every single user have to have a conversion. They could just vote and be on their way. Some people are not conversation people or not good at explaining themselves.

To read the conversations in order to learn things and sometimes post. There are plenty of users here who have been here longer then I and they either haven't even/barely broken 100 posts.AgitoZ wrote:If that's the case then what's the point of joining a forum?TheGmGoken wrote:I agree. I saw someone who been here since 2004 and barely got 50. I'm sure there some users who never postedringworm128 wrote:To read the conversations in order to learn things and sometimes post. You could accomplish the same thing by just lurking.TheGmGoken wrote:Knowledge, To learn more about a subject.
Okay? Then what's the problem here? I'd rather a bunch of people stay idle and only post when they really have something worth saying. Instead of having a load of users just casting anonymous judgement with little to no explanation.ringworm128 wrote:To read the conversations in order to learn things and sometimes post. If users don't feel like posting or feel that's a problem with them not the forum interface.

Re: Poll option for threads
That's were I think this forum has an elitist attitude with posting. Does two extra posts really mean anything? What are we really accomplishing by having an unnecessary focus on conversation despite turning some people off wanting to join and take part in discussion? A poll option would only do good to shorten down on overly simple posts. I don't know where everyone on this forum get's the idea that likeable posts, OT sections etc will create utter chaos.

Re: Poll option for threads
The fact hat MOD(s) want us to talk for everything. Complain about short post such as "I agree" yet don't want a poll. I don't even get that. I'm sure poll threads will HELP Kanzenshuu rather than cause "Chaos". I've been on many forums with the poll options and they got MORE views and topics because of it. Hell more people made a post when the poll option came up.ringworm128 wrote:That's were I think this forum has an elitist attitude with posting. Does two extra posts really mean anything? Re: Poll option for threads
The best forum I'm on has polls, OT section and ways in which to rate people's posts, e.g. "agree", "disagree", "funny", etc. The system works extremely well, with much in-depth discussion as well as brilliant humour.
The grammar rules here are perfect and help the forum massively, but I agree some things could be improved.
