Dragon Ball Vol. 1 (Limited Edition) Viz

Post by capsuleman » Fri May 26, 2006 12:41 pm

Has any one else seen this?
http://www.viz.com/products/products.ph ... ct_id=1128
Viz states "VIZ is proud to release a limited 1st edition of Dragon Ball--featuring a special foil cover, and numbered for authenticity and collectibility! In addition to the special cover, each limited edition features an imprinted serial number on the cover so that collectors can experience the thrill of owning one of only 5000 printed editions."
I wonder if they are testing the waters for a possible kanzenban edition in the future?

Well, putting the possibility of a translated Kanzenban (:D) aside, it could be one of two possibilities:
1) A re-release of their company's "1st edition manga" (remember way back when Viz released manga in a significantly larger size than the tankoubon?).
2) A singles re-release of that one Viz manga box set that had the first volume of DB, DBZ, Shaman King, One Piece, Naruto, etc. I remember those having some kind of holo foil thing going on on their covers.

Well, here's to hoping that it's the kanzenban releases...

Pfft, sounds more like they're trying to get people into buying the manga now that it's officially ended. They're simply giving the first book a foil cover, that's about it.

Interesting. I can only hope that we get something new, perhaps color pages? Not likely. I'll probably buy these "limited editions" if they have more than just a "foil cover." Perhaps an improved translation, minus the random crap ("How do you explain Dragon Ball Z?!" anyone?) :roll:

If there's further information about what else is included, besides a foil cover. If there are colored pages, then I will definitely purchase this.

That's not in Volume 1. Volume 1's big problem was the way Bulma's dialogue was written. It's not the translation so much as the "valley girl" accent.

I very much doubt any content will be changed. Shaman King, Naruto, One Piece, and Yu-Gi-Oh! had limited edition foil covers, although not as limited as this. It's simply their way of trying to get people into the series with shiny stuff..that or rather getting people into rebuying it just for the new cover. >_>;

It's a waste of money. My volume one is just fine without easily damaged prettiness.

I was referring to the release as a whole. (as they get to that volume)

But what makes me kind of mad, having thought about it... why not just start releasing the Kanzenban version if they're going to do a release? Well, we don't know that this isn't the Kanzenban, but it most likely won't be. I'll probably still buy it, assuming it gets something extra, but I wish Viz would cut the crap and get to releasing the Kanzenban. =/

It's not the Kanzenban version. If you check the amount of pages there are in the volume, it's the same amount of pages as there is in the original Vol. 1 of Dragon Ball. It's just the same book with a foil cover, I'm assuming.

Reminds me of what they did with FMA. They released the first 3 or 4 volumes with foil covers, then stopped.
