Does anyone know if they have this Box Set listed for preorder at Amazon? Cause I would like to preorder this myself.

I recently looked on amazon, but only found the UUE singles. I'm guessing FUNi doesn't want to make a big deal out of it until it nears its release date. Of course, that makes it even stranger that other websites have it up for pre-order .

Anyways, I'm hoping for a jewel DVD case like the DragonBox for the movies. I don't understand why some of the more "popular" shows like Friends or The Simpsons come in jewel casings, but other show sets come in slim cases.

Jewel Casings PLEASE!!
Jewel casings aren't really used for R1 anime releases all that much. The typical "boxset" style for R1 anime is either a brickcase (all of the discs in one very thick keepcase), thinpak (thinner DVD cases within a box), or just the typical "all of the normal keepcases in the box" (typical with early ADV/Bandai/Geneon collections.)

I'm thinking Funi's either going to use the "brick" route, since they did it with the Blue Gender re-release, or "thinpak" boxes, since ADV's kind of been making that the norm.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

Sorry, but can someone put up a pic of this DVD brickcasing? I don't really know what you're talking about. Do you mean those DVD cases that hold more than one disc?

And a few episodes into the journey to Namek, yes.

Set 1: The entire Saiyan saga... DUH. (Plus the start of the journey to Namek)

Set 2: Bulma's Amazing Space Coster to about the point Freeza starts fighting.

Set 3: Freeza's second transformation to that Krillin & Maron filler. (I like that this idea of a set stops RIGHT before the Trunks episodes. Makes a nice separation. :D )

Set 4: The beginning of the Trunks episodes to when Super Vegeta is fighting Imperfect Cell.

Set 5: Vegeta fighting Imperfect Cell to that episode with Goku fighting those escapees from Hell. (Funi, you do the sets like this, and I'LL LOVE YOU FOREVER!!! The entire Cell saga IN ONLY TWO BOX SETS!!!)

Set 6: The begining of the other world tournament to Majin Buu's first fights.

Set 7: About the point where Buu eats Dabura to when Vegeto enters Buu.

Set 8: Think the Kid Buu set, plus one Fusion saga episode. Maybe the TV specials thrown in to make up for not having as many episodes.
I would hope that there won't be that many sets. Considering the franchise has lost a lot of steam in America, I think it would behoove FUNi to release 4 sets per the 4 sagas (give or take the fillers) and charge a little extra for the longer sagas; like $65 for the Cell Saga, etc. They'll still be getting tons of money and renewing people's interest in the show by re-releasing it at such an insane price. Otherwise, I don't think there should be any more than six sets.

BTW, I'm not even going to bother pre-ordering online. I'm sure I'll be able to walk into Best Buy come release date and buy it on their typical "first-week discount" for anywhere between $34.99 and $39.99. Saves shipping charges, too.

Also; are people just assuming that this new set is going to be bi-lingual? Or has FUNi confirmed it?

I've been collecting the DVDs since the Ginyu Saga and The History of Trunks TV special first came out some six years ago. I have gone to my local store each time FUNimation has released a new Dragon Ball related DVD. When I heard they were releasing the first 67 episodes uncut, I felt I could breath easy knowing I would eventually have the entire Dragon Ball Z series on DVD. And now FUNimation has come up and smacked me upside the head with a baseball bat and then kicked me in the stomach while down.

I'm pleased that they are releasing Dragon Ball Z into what will appear to be seven to nine season box sets. What I'm not pleased about is that FUNimation is doing this before they even finish releasing the Ultimate Uncut editions. I'm being suckered into buying the same episodes twice. It's good for fans of the show to finally be able to afford the series at a decent price and use far less room on their shelves. My hat is off to FUNimation for releasing season sets but I just wished they would have told us this sooner.

Well, that's my two cents into the discussion.

Yeah, it's odd. Suddenly they're in the business of giving their customers GOOD deals.

Accually, I found a listing on Amazon but it is not listed as "Complete Vegeta Saga". They name the listing "Dragonball Z Vol. 10".

Oddly, it has the same list price of $49.98, but their price is $34.99, a pretty sweet deal! I dont think it is a UUE single that they have listed (just because of the price), but a 10th one should be coming out pretty soon. Could this be the "Season one" Box Set? :?:

If the listing on Amazon.com is indeed the Season One set, that is a great deal not just for that set but for the potential of eight season box sets. For $35 each, eight seasons would come out to roughly $280. If I continued to buy volumes 10 through 22 of the Ultimate Uncut, I would be spending over $230 dollars at $18 each. Looking at it like this, I'm only spending $50 dollars more than I had prepared to spend on the rest of the series. The more I think about it, the less angry I am for this occuring. Now for the another question - Will FUNimation release a box set for the movies when they finish the season box sets?

Well, they've been releasing box sets for them. As of now, they've released boxed sets for DB movies 2, 3, and the 10th anniversary special; DBZ movies 4-6; and soon out will be one for all 3 Broly movies. And let's not forget the Pioneer boxed set for DBZ movies 1-3.

Oh, and everyone's freaking out about the price, but I'm guessing most of you guys aren't bothering to follow the first post's link on page one of this topic to
cduniverse.com.

Another thing, FDLink, your avatar is too big, resize it.

Apparently FUNi's strategy involving DBZ will be going through some changes. (Which are to be revealed this summer.)

Wild speculation on my part: They are going to release the whole series in this new season boxset format. Of course, that's just the hopeful idiot in me talking. :P

I'm aware of the many 3 disc movie box sets FUNimation has been releasing since the the early years. I'm talking about a single 13 movie box set (15 with TV specials), similar to the Japanese Dragon Box from earlier this year.

HOLY CRAP!!! 39 episodes for JUST $21?!??

You realize that if they do that for my predicted 8 sets, we could get the ENTIRE series for just $160?!?

I am SO ordering it from that site.
I also go by "veemonjosh".

It's a fuckup. It wont be carried over onto the next seven/eight/whatever sets and as such wont be that cheap. However, cheaper still is DVDpacific's listing for Dragonball Z volume 10, which has the same RRP as the boxed set, but the discounted rate of a single volume of Z. Meaning if you hurry, the first boxset is like... $17?

I just pre-ordered mine from RightStuf. I know it wasn't the cheapest around but I know I can trust them and $45 is still a damn good price, especially when I sell off the 9 Ultimate Uncuts I already have.

... but what kinda scares my is that these sites that list the set for under $50 don't have an image to work off of. So, for the most part, you can only guess and say a little prayer while you put up your preorder. The only real evidence you see is thits release date which, thank god, matches up with mentioned set. Nevertheless, I'm gonna wait until a picture is put up before doing anything else...

EDIT: Anyone else find it kinda strange that some stores are referring to this set as Volume 10 of DBZ?

Look at RRP. Look at name. Look at Members price (which can be obtained simply by signing up). It is very very cheap.

Dragon Ball Z is undergoing some changes that will be revealed later in the summer but what they're working towards, thankfully, is getting the franchise in a more workable form that will work not only for fans but for retailers. Though jokingly said, imagine the kind of box set required for the complete series. They'll do it someday.
That's from what Brad Renfield linked to. There are a lot of inferences you can make based on this.
