Movies That Could Work In The Canon Timeline.

Post by KentalSSJ6 » Thu Aug 15, 2013 1:51 am

Considering how BOG is the first "canon" movie of Dragonball Z, I was wondering how to incorporate the other movies into the canon timeline as well.

Movies 1-4 seem impossible, Goku's outfit has the Kaio symbol on his back which he got from King Kai, not to mention Piccolo and the Z fighters that died against Nappa are alive as well. I think I remember Goku using Kaioken X20 in movie 2 though that may have been a english dub thing.

Movie 5 seems to fit well, setting it during the 3 years spent training for the androids.

Movie 6-8 I usually put during the ten day wait for the Cell games to begin. Seems to fit pretty well for the most part.

Movie 9 could for the most part be easily classified as canon as it takes place during a 7 year gap.

Movie 10 could as well, depending if Gohan knew Videl already and she met Goten and Trunks as well, forget if she did.

Movie 11 seems a no go, as I thought after the Buu saga world tournament it goes straight into the conflicts with Majin Buu.

Movie 12 seems to be impossible as well sadly, as its my favorite of the movies.

Movie 13 could be classified as canon easily depending on how many years after the death of Buu you place it at. I usually just have it happen a year later.

What do you guys think?

Only Movie's 5, 8, 9 and 13 could even possibly be considered acceptable to be fit into the main timeline. The rest all suffer from inconsistencies that prevent them from matching up where they could possibly go.

Do you happen to know the inconsistencies? I just like knowing them. We know 1-4 is impossible so what would be the reasons the movies you mentioned wouldent be able to fit?

6. Dende is the guardian of Earth, but Gohan isn't a Super Saiyan, Trunks is nowhere to be found, and no one seems to care about that whole Cell issue.

7: Piccolo is the strongest one there, all the saiyans have their pre-ROSAT appearances and abilities, Gohan isn't a Super Saiyan.

8: the entire world isn't locked down in terror, like it was in the lead up to the Cell Games.

10: Videl has short hair, Goten knows Goku, Gohan knows Videl, Vegeta is nowhere to be found. Completely impossible to fit.

I think Movies 5, 9, and 13 fit without too much trouble. Movie 1 has a single questionable scene, but the Daizenshuu, Chozenshuu, and anime all place it in the main timeline, so I'm willing to forgive said mistake.

He's probably referring to the Bardock special. Zarbon was the one who first recommended destroying Planet Vegeta because the saiyans were rapidly growing in strength.
It was actually Beerus disguised as Zarbon #StayWoke
Herms wrote:The fact that the ridiculous power inflation is presented so earnestly makes me just roll my eyes and snicker. Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

Tree Of Might had to be the biggest inconsistency out of all. Like you said, characters that are dead are still on Earth. And Kaioken x20? Funimation screwed that one up. Pioneer had Goku doing x10 Kaioken, but STILL is not right, maybe x5 he can do. Wouldn't count on it though. x4 nearly destroyed Goku's body during his fight with Vegeta....

I do think movie 5 might have a little snag, but it entirely depends on the validity of the following picture.

Image

This came from a page of a V-Jump magazine when they were promoting Budokai 3. If we believe Final Form Cooler had a PL of 470 million, then Goku at the time of Movie 5, would have had to have a PL of 500 million while in SSJ. That would mean from the time he was on Namek to Cooler's arrival, Goku got 3.5 times stronger.

When Cooler punched Goku in the gut, do you remember how he TANKED that? he didn't even flinch! He's probably 700+ million in that fight :o

Anyway, those power levels are definitely not right.

Hey, did you ever see this one?

Less than 180,000? Ginyu Saga Goku can beat these guys. And without even trying! Piccolo? He's like close to 2,000,000 probably at this part of the series. C'mon!!

700 million for Goku would have been overkill against Cooler. Goku only had a 30 million PL lead on Freeza and in the manga the fight was even more one sided in Goku's favor. The anime makes them look more equal for the purpose of extending the episode length. Even at 1 million, Piccolo could have likely took on Cooler's men alone and still beat them easily. I myself dont really consider the V-Jump power levels to be official seeing as that means Broly would be half as strong as Super Gogeta.

2,500,000,000 is also not very big for Gogeta either. Do you notice that even Daizenshuu power levels have Cell Saga Goku at like 1,500,000,000 I think?

I dont think the Daizenshuu's covered power levels after Namek so I cant say anything for Cell's power level or anything. Do you have a scan of the page saying so?

Was there a problem with Movie 1? I always felt that could work as a prequel to DBZ, or a sort of "bridging of the gap" between DB and DBZ.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

Well considering everyone's surprise/shock when Piccolo arrives at Kame house after Raditz take's his leave, not to mention Goku saying he never thought hed be teaming up with Piccolo, it kinda collides with their working together in movie 1. It would have been mentioned at least once if it was considered canon.

Isn't that scan just something made for Budokai 3?
It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.

Superman in an orange Gi was the bastard son of FUNimation. Its not The real character, it is as false as Chatku.

You do realize that will mean Base Gogeta is weaker than Goku SSJ from the Cooler Movie right?

Only timeline movies that can fit into timeline are
Movie 1 if you change some things
Movie 5
Movie 9
Movie 13

Everything else have way to many errors.

Given how different Movie 13 is compared to the other movies, I always got the impression that, unlike with the other movies, they actually tried to make sure it works in the official timeline. And I think it was a pretty good attempt. I wish we had gotten more movies like it.

Speaking of; I find it ridiculous that no one remembers the other tournaments when Goku was younger. Especially the 23rd tournament when Goku defeated Piccolo, whole ring blew up, firing beams at eachother, or how about when King Piccolo threatened to take over the Earth? how does no one recall any of this? Hercule created a bad image. But good thing his daughter was smarter than that. :P

Well Goku finally gets somewhat recognized at the end of GT where the tournament grounds has a giant statue made of him.

IMO that was for Toei only. Because I don't see how Goku is randomly remembered.

Movie 5 doesn't necessarily work as is, because Goku can't transform into a Super Saiyan at will in the movie, and yet he was supposed to have learned how to do so during his year in space.
