I never thought he destroyed it all at once. That scene was just to illustrate the point of his power or something.
It is in his character to be rude and a bit crass. He's a hick, with no formal education. That is Son Goku. That is who he is.

My opinion: the ending of the first movie is such deus ex machina that his hype has followed suit. Broly also got so hyped up and overrated in the US not because of the movie iteslef or its content but because of how long it took the movie to come out in the US so people just started making shit up and when the whole galaxy dub thing happened (which is not even that big of a translation difference) people starting spreading all sort of crazy theories across the internet.

I actually don't mind his defeat at the end of Movie #8 so much now.
In Movie #8 it seems like Broly keeps rising in power and it overwhelms him so he has to discharge it by releasing it. As seen in the movie. Then when Goku hit him with all that strength he needed to discharge it again which caused him to explode.
