I think the target age group thing gets overblown. Unless you're producing something like Barney which is obviously for very young children, you're not going to want to pigeonhole yourself too much. It's why so few films get a G-rating these days. It took a while before the MPAA caught on but the vast majority of Disney films are not exclusively for kids. The way I see it, Dragon Ball was targeting people who like fantasy action, full stop, which just so happens to be a genre young boys tend to gravitate toward so that's what the marketing department runs with. But in terms of actually producing the show I think it's a lot less geared to any one age group as it is geared to a particular taste. And this seems to hold true for pretty much every great TV show or movie ever.

Well, yeah, it's an all ages thing. It's just that appealing to young boys is the top priority when making and airing the series.

Maybe this conversation is better left in another thread.

Well, that's more of a problem with the ratings system than anything else. A "G-rating" is supposed to be for all ages. That's what G stands for: General Audiences. Hell, even the first Star Trek movie got a G, and that has people being melted by a transporter, so it's only natural that Disney films should belong in that category. But because General Audiences included films meant for kids, the perception shifted to it being a kiddie rating. Filmmakers and studios started purposely putting in more "adult" content just to avoid being stuck with a G-rating. So now the actual definition of the ratings means practically nothing.

Other good examples of early G-rated films that wouldn't fly today are 2001: A Space Odyssey and the original True Grit. For reference, the Coen brothers version from 2010 isn't all that different in terms of objectionable content (although it is a bit grittier, no pun intended) and received a PG-13.

As for the whole "purposely putting in more 'adult' content" to avoid a G-rating, yeah, that's how we wound up with this infamous line. It didn't make The Transformers any less a series targeted at children.

Caught up with the series, haven't watched it since episode 30. I like Gero's voice actor a lot.

I ask because I know one who tried.

Let me know if you need voice actors for your DBNA animation.

Was this line inspired by anything
Butarega: King Vegeta, I have urgent news!
King Vegeta: Speak, Butarega.
Butarega: Bardock has gone absolutely mad, Sire!
Bardock: FREEZA!!
King Vegeta: What's all the commotion about?
Butarega: He's been telling everyone that Freeza plans to destroy Vegeta!
King Vegeta: Wait, my son, the planet, or me?
Butarega: ...Yes.

(Butarega is blasted by King Vegeta)
King Vegeta: Freakin' smartass.

Because coincidentally I found Ian Flynn write a similar thing like the scene you guys did. Difference is he doesn't talk to Orbot. I'm probably looking too much into what probably isn't true.
Orbot: We've lost Shadow Man.
Eggman: (to Wily) Wait... my Shadow Man, or your Shadow Man?
Orbot: Yes.

Oh my God. We just found out that Ian Flynn is a BIG fan of ours. Did... he make a reference to our work?!

I'm wondering if i'm just looking too deep into this. But this line just reminded me so much of the King Vegeta one you guys did and the answer he was given makes me think so. Ian Flynn also greatly commended you guys so he is probably a big fan of your series so perhaps he wrote that in out of inspiration from you.

This is pretty awesome too. I hope they did a Freeza line together.

Ian Flynn is a fan of DBZ abridged  ? That's awesome!

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if that was a reference to DBZ Abridged, considering all the references to other things during his run on the comic.

Well, according to Kaiser's Twitter, 37 won't be ready for a few more weeks.

Ehh, stuff happens. It's posted when it's posted; I've got a lot going on anyway to keep my busy, and I'm not the kind to complain about the wait anyway.

I'm more interested in when Movie 6 is coming out. I wanna see adult Vegeta's abridged movie debut (not counting the little cameo he made).

Well, considering we're now just about two months away from Youmacon... maybe it'll join Lord Slug and Episode of Bardock on the list of Detroit debuts.
