Did the whole human race get replaced in Z?
Did the whole human race get replaced in Z?
Seriously. For one thing there seems to be little to none animal hybrid people while in DB they made up a large part of the population. Also while most normal people in DB were very aware of stuff like the great Master Roshi and his legendary Kamehameha wave and his students, who also used it regularly at tournaments, none of the normal humans in Z seem to know about it and just call it a cheap trick.
What's really weird is that nobody seems to even know who the Z Fighters are even though they took part in various Tournaments and their flying and ki attacks were public knowledge back then. And how did everyone manage to forget the time King Piccolo enslaved the earth and Goku saved everyone's ass? By the Cell Games everyone on earth doesn't even know who he is and just blindly worships Mr Satan while disrespecting their true saviour. And that's only a mere 14 years later after the King Piccolo incident which happened in front of the king. 11 years since he defeated Piccolo Jr. And I'm pretty sure the fight with the Saiyans got some news coverage so surely people should recognise the Z Fighters.
Why don't some of the older adults on earth at least remember the world tournaments of old or the King Piccolo days?
One of the best scenes in DB was the crowd running out of the stadium and picking up Goku and Tien on their shoulders after their exhausting battle to congratulate them on an amazing fight. In Z you would never see that because 99% of Earth's population are ignorant jerks.

Simple. The mass death and destruction during the Piccolo Daimao arc erased most of the records concerning the Tenkaichi Tournament except maybe the winners and the majority of the people who attended said tournaments probably died during Daimao's reign.
As a result by the time Z comes along, after years of not seeing people with ki-abilities in the public they are eventually forgotten.

There was a super famous grand word-wide Beauty Contest: Animal Edition that took place in East City (a morning of November 3rd, Age 762). Most of the Animal-type Earthlings were in East City during that time.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Now that I think about it. Those were the only group of people that we never saw brought back with the Dragonballs directly. Although...
If we go by the Freeza's arc wish of reviving the people killed by him and his goons during the last year... Nappa's victim should be alright. Hell, even Nappa should have been brought back because Vegeta was -still- his servant at the time he killed him. xD

If that had counted, then Yamucha and Tenshinhan would have been brought back to life too.

Yamcha? Maybe, but Tenshinhan killed himself with the Kikoho.Gaffer Tape wrote:If that had counted, then Yamucha and Tenshinhan would have been brought back to life too.

According to God, the wish, "Bring everyone killed back to life by the Saiyans," would have accomplished that, and he's the expert.TheDevilsCorpse wrote:Yamcha? I find it funny that after Namek, the Namekians are worried about standing out while on earth, yet the King of Earth is a freaking BLUE DOG.
Then again..after King Piccolo I could see people freaking out.

I always thought it was funny how Toei kept making Oolong and Puar appear in filler and movies, yet they never bothered adding other animal people in other filler or in sceneries.
Re: Did the whole human race get replaced in Z?
The Tournament fighters who got killed were all revived. Plus there was the 23rd Tournament after all that chaos. It really hadn't been that many years since the Tournaments and King Piccolo gave a live broadcast of him levelling a major city with his ki attack so you'd think people would still remember.YamiAtomsk wrote:Simple. But there was that one part were Goku had to return to the battlefield to retrieve his Power Pole and got surrounded by news cameras with people asking him for an interview. I'm pretty sure the King pointed at him saying he's the one who stopped Piccolo and Goku also told them his name before leaving.Rocketman wrote:They never knew. I always thought this happen off screen. The Doggy President (before they were Z fighters) wish for everyone to forget about King Piccolo and ki attacks(Since most of King Piccolo evil dealt with ki) and the Doggy and the other Dragonball Hunters aka Goku and the gang before they were the Z fighters only remember because Doggy made the wish and the others were a great deal in the fight(aka plot device).

The Great Furries Purge happened. Strangely enough, the World King (who is actually called King Furry in the dub) was untouched, perhaps even behind it, as if it were a Highlander thing.
The population had just had enough of hearing about people's "fursonas".

That was filler. It didn't happen in the manga, hence why it was never referenced again.90sDBZ wrote:But there was that one part were Goku had to return to the battlefield to retrieve his Power Pole and got surrounded by news cameras with people asking him for an interview. Just being curious but has the manga ever mention the anime(Filler or Padding. If you do't know what padding is. It's not filler but a small scene that wasn't in the manga. Such as Goku transforming or Gohan turning SSJ2 Part 1). The only one I can think of is an indirectly one when Yajoribe sounds like Krillin which was basically saying use the same voice actor,Gaffer Tape wrote:That was filler. Vegeta & Nappa went to Earth exclusively for their own purposes (they wanted the Dragon Balls for immortality), so they didn't kill those Earthlings while serving Freeza, they killed them while they were serving themselves (like it happened with the Namekians that Vegeta would kill later).soulnova wrote:If we go by the Freeza's arc wish of reviving the people killed by him and his goons during the last year... It's crazy, you would think people would remember Jackie Chun blowing up the moon. That seems like pretty big news.

Maybe the trauma of dying and coming back to life made them repress this memory, or forget about it outright, or think that no one would believe them if they spoke about it or something. They are regular people, not people like Yamcha and co. who had learned about the afterlife way before their own deaths.90sDBZ wrote:The Tournament fighters who got killed were all revived.
