Where I'm at concerning the UUE and the new box set:
At very first, I was upset that I had spent so much on them but looking back, those things (along with the DaizEX podcast) have fueled my love of DBZ for an entire year. In fact, they were the reason I got back into DBZ after about two years of really not caring about it (post high school).
They gave me something to look forward to, honestly. Haha. I mean, life has a way of getting you down sometimes but the days I picked them up were good days (however pathetic that may sound). It was a bi-monthly ritual for me.
At this point, I'm not sure if I'm going to sell them or not.

So...anyone want the first 7 UUE discs with the box +1 box? No one? damn.
Seriously though while I already bought the "red" saga DVDs this is a good thing as it's still cheaper then the as of yet unreleased singles they would have done. Plus, in a personal sense I never got any of the blue set yet so thats a plus for me. As is being able to give what I have to a friend whose been curious about why I like DBZ and has accepted my offer to give them my current UUEs (hey if you cant sell em, might as well share the fandom love, am I right?). I am glad they've done this as I was beginning to worry if I'd ever see the first half of the freeza saga on uncut DVD this decade. I am far more psyched for (or at least the likelihood of) a "season 2" set that I can really sink my teeth into. Sure it would've been nice if I didn't own all the rest outside of that (and garlic junior, but meh) - but those don't bother me. I've had most of the single DVDs for a LONG time and have gotten much time out of them. or in the case of my last two sets bought, will by the time they hit the late Buu arc. So I say Bravo, FUNimation, you're allowing those who've been with you in a long time to clean up what we do not yet have with these, and far more importantly, opened the door to more fans. By far, the biggest block I've had in getting friends to see DBZ has been the price issue - but that will no longer be an issue if they keep this up. ^_^

I'm not going to make any purchases until I know the exact specs on the season box. I just can't see FUNi completely stopping the UUE series. The way I see it, they are going to have the Japanese audio only available on the UUE and have english only on the season boxes. Just seems like the marketing ploy they would throw at us. Here's to hoping the UUE dies here.

You know, you saying that has helped me a lot. Your right about everything you have said and I dont feel as bad now for owning about 65 DBZ DVD's. Thanks for all that as i feel much better. I just wish these new box sets have the Dragon Box footage.laserkid wrote:So...anyone want the first 7 UUE discs with the box +1 box? No one? damn.

I don't know if this means anything, but at aaaanime.com they still have Vol. 10 of the Vegeta Saga II available for pre-order, in which case it is due out July 11th, 2006. I'm guessing this means they're still going to be releasing the Ultimate Uncut's.

Fair enough, but you also have to consider that FUNimation has outright cancelled the 9th and 10th volumes for the UUE, wouldn't release a English only disc unless forced (as they have the proper materials, there'd be no reason for them not to).masenko wrote:I'm not going to make any purchases until I know the exact specs on the season box. But its not like the preorder is going to go away any time soon so speculation isnt so bad.
Namek'jinRyu: Sometimes places can be a bit slower than others. Currently the franchise is re-arranging itself, which is why you'll still see some things as still being there. Give it a month or two and we'll all know for sure.
Aight U know Funimation aint going to stop makin the UUE dvds because that would be dumb as hell there goes there ticket to makin money...but all i know is I'm not gonna buy that kiddy grade cartoon box version of DBZ it looks so corney I mean come on yellow lmao wut were they thinking? I wonder if someone was eatin a Banana and some other guy was like hmm it'll work lol. Funny as hell but ya I'm stick with the ultimate uncut dvds since all my other DBZ dvds are singles. Besides i know they wouldnt sell the boxset for 50 unless something wrong with no way I'm sorry. I mean come on they sold the kid buu saga for 71 dollars and that 5 episodes as well. So UUE till they day I die.......Hopefully not tooo soooon.....

How many of you who are buying the current singles will buy the box set? How many of you have not bought the singles but will buy the box set? I'm sure FUNimation will acquire more money from fans buying the sets. It's economical. And to reply to your statement on the yellow cover, *SPECULATION* look at what the Region 2 covers look like:
http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B000 ... e&n=561958
FUNimation is on a roll when it comes to releasing DVDs with the R2 covers. Maybe we're being rewarded with the R2 covers of Dragon Ball Z, hence the yellow cover for the box set.

Think about it though, why would FUNimation stop it if it was actually making money? As I've already explained, there's a good chance that FUNimation wasn't making any real profit from the discs, or atleast not as much as they had hoped. The market has changed and they're looking for something that both retailers and customers will be able to deal with, as casual buyers were put off by overpriced 3 episode discs, and retailers have less and less shelf space to give to Anime, which in itself isn't selling too well.dolma66 wrote:Aight U know Funimation aint going to stop makin the UUE dvds because that would be dumb as hell there goes there ticket to makin money...
Yeah, lets ignore the fact that it's something like 2/7ths cheaper than the sum of all the respective UUE discs. This is also FUNimation we're talking about, who've produced much worse covers (GT and individual Z discs, with screen shot covers, WOW) and boxes. Besides, that's superficial, and with the money you'd save from getting the UUE's which you wont be able to buy anymore, you could get some nice custom made Paul Champagne boxes.but all i know is I'm not gonna buy that kiddy grade cartoon box version of DBZ it looks so corney I mean come on yellow lmao wut were they thinking? Besides, yellow is fine. Worked for Dragonbox Z, worked for Kill Bill, and works for any number of things. This box doesn't look too bad, honestly.
Please stop posting.Funny as hell but ya
1. Several retailers are showing the same price, so it's leading me to believe that this is what it's going to be. It's not an entirely unreasonable price either.I'm stick with the ultimate uncut dvds since all my other DBZ dvds are singles. 2. Buu saga was released back several years ago, when the market and DBZ's appeal were much different. However, Z has to adapt to a more marketable standard.
3. By current logic, you'll never, ever, finish your Z collection.

I've never bought any Funi DVDs due to their episode count and high price, especially if you consider that I have to pay for extra delivery to the UK. The fact that it wasn't the Ocean dub also put me off buying them.
If Funi continues to churn out box sets like these, with similar episode counts and low prices, I will buy all of them. You hear that, Funimation? If you want my money, release the ENTIRE series, not just the first 2 'seasons'.

As much money I put into the DBZ DVD's out already, I hope that they do put out the whole DBZ series out on these "season" box sets.Kula wrote:I've never bought any Funi DVDs due to their episode count and high price, especially if you consider that I have to pay for extra delivery to the UK. I'm not sure if I mentioned this already, but according to this convention report from Anime on DVD at Anime Boston 2006...
http://www.animeondvd.com/conitem.php?item=251
The convention report mentions that ... "Dragon Ball Z is undergoing some changes that will be revealed later in the summer but what they're working towards, thankfully, is getting the franchise in a more workable form that will work not only for fans but for retailers."
So I'm thinking (almost 100% sure) that it looks like Funi is working towards putting out the whole series in this boxset format, so retailers can easily stock the whole series without the massive shelf space taken up by singles. Also, fans who want to buy these won't have to sift through dozens of 3-ep DVDs to find the episodes they want, when they can get a whole "season" for the price of 2-3 singles.
I mean:
1) The "Season One" splattered on the box makes me think they're going this route with all of DBZ, since they could've just done it like their older boxes and put "VEGETA SAGA" (like "Androids Saga" or "Imperfect Cell Saga")
2) They could get the whole series matched up with the proper episode numbers.
3) The Freeza-Buu DVDs have been out for at least 3 years or more. The new boxsets would be a way for them to make more money off of already released episodes (with improved boxart and an overall more appealing price tag.)
4) Outside of video games, it's no where near as popular as it used to be. This would be a smart move on Funi's part to get in new fans who don't want to track down each 3-ep DVD. Plus they could cross-market the DVD sets with the games or Viz's manga. "Based off of the Shonen Jump manga, the same magazine that features NARUTO."
Or they could promote the games/anime vice-versa. "You've played the games, now see the show or whatever."
Considering I don't have any of my DBZ DVDs anymore (except for the movies and GT), I would like to have the whole Z series in a cheaper, more streamlined format. And I'm sure there any MANY who agree and would be more than happy buying these sets.
I dunno, my ramblings.

If so, why does everyone seemingly not like the idea? If the Dragonball community is going to grow stronger due to this, we shouldn't be complainin' (if anybody is)! We'll be on our way to converting everybody into the Dragonball religion! World domination!theoriginalbilis wrote:4) Outside of video games, it's no where near as popular as it used to be. Wll, yeah, if they're gonna release a Season 1 set, then it makes sense to keep going throughout the rest of the series.
Of course, like Mike said in that one podcast episode concerning FUNi, "Bye-bye logic." So, it's safe to say that FUNi is the rapidly spinning tornado that we, the fans are trying to control to our every whim, but to no avail...
... That was neither here nor there, but I figured I'd say it in the most wordy way possible.

This is very good news, especially for me. ^_^ I was considering buying these DVDs soon, so now I'll just wait for these sets. And this will definitelly strengthen the DB community; since these sets will be more affordable than buying the 80+ DVDs, many more people will be buying them. I know I'm going to preorder them all as they come out, and I've never done that for an anime.

Yeah, I must emphasize the '"SEASON ONE" inscription. They've never done that with any of the other DBZ boxsets, so that's what convinces me of an entire-series-re-release.DaemonCorps wrote:Wll, yeah, if they're gonna release a Season 1 set, then it makes sense to keep going throughout the rest of the series.
