Maybe just have Broly go 100% mental patient when he goes LSSj.

This is the most likely scenario. For most characters, it seems that DBZA likes to exaggerate their actual personalities rather than invent new ones. I also find that it works better, except in one particularly obvious case... and even that COULD be considered an exaggeration.Kaboom wrote:Maybe just have Broly go 100% mental patient when he goes LSSj.

Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

I can see him confusing Gohan for Goku in this scenario. For some reason he goes after Gohan instead of him.RandomGuy96 wrote:This is the most likely scenario. Broly's insanity makes him think Gohan is Goku? Seems like an exaggeration to me.RandomGuy96 wrote: That wouldn't be character exaggeration, though.

Yes he did in movie 10. In movie 8 he learn how he hates Goku, but for some reason he keeps targeting Gohan. You'd think like Vegeta he would only care about Goku, but for some reason he attacks Gohan a lot.RandomGuy96 wrote:...he thought Goten was Goku. He only attacked Gohan like once in Movie 8, and he was doing it to piss Goku off.

Re: DragonBall Z Abridged
This is why I think maybe we're thinking about it the wrong way. There's not much to really do with Broly that isn't super predictable or a cheap joke that will wear thin after five minutes. Broly probably can't be directly funny. But he can be indirectly so because of everything else. Like Vegeta's breakdown.

The problem is that you people are thinking of various scenarios that could follow instead of waiting for a surprise.

100% agreed.hleV wrote:The problem is that you people are thinking of various scenarios that could follow instead of waiting for a surprise.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

It was a few times actually. Hell you would think he would focus only on Goku but for some reason he goes for Gohan before finishing Goku.jjgp1112 wrote:He only attacked Gohan like once in Movie 8, and he was doing it to piss Goku off.

Re: DragonBall Z Abridged
Probably because he figures it would traumatize Goku all the more if he made him realize his son was just killed because he was too weak to save him. Broly's smart enough to come up with a diabolical plan that simple at least.dbzfan7 wrote:It was a few times actually. ...Well, movie 8 Broly's smart enough to come up with that anyway.

Flanderizing personalities is what's too obvious, IMO. For an example, exaggerating on Goku's stupidity. Exaggerating on Vegeta's arrogance and douchebaggery. Exaggerating on Gohan's prodigious intelligence. Exaggerating on Chi-Chi supermama thing. Exaggerating on Krillin's pessimism. All too obvious.TonyTheTiger wrote:Gotta be honest, I'm not into the gentleman Broly thing. It's too...easy? Obvious? Seems like the best jokes come from flanderizing characters' actual personalities. Of course this poses a challenge since Broly doesn't actually have a personality to flanderize. He's more like a force of nature. Maybe an angle like that could work, though. Instead of flanderizing Broly, flanderize the seriousness of the threat as a whole. Forget the jokes entirely. Make it a drama. Comically serious in an Airplane! kind of way.
and a lot of the jokes here with goku being stupid are so corny. not even all that funny really
