They got me booked on ANN's forums this week, too. Yikes, I got a show in about an hour, ribbing Vic Mignogna for something. Then I have to get back here for my mid-morning set all about how Funimation doesn't know what "seasons" mean.

These gigs are murder on my hands, but the frequent flyer mileage adds up. I try playing the new stuff, but they all ask for the hits.

So Penguin is saying that the Orange Bricks are the best release with Faulconer music? After all, those don't force you to listen to it.

If you're really patient enough to find them and are wanting the closest there is to the original broadcast, then you'll definitely want the original singles, preferably the US release for Ginyu till Great Saiyaman as the Madman release excluded the recaps for some reason on them.

As mentioned above, the Orange Bricks do suffer from the piss poor 'remaster' and despite the US BGM track on there being labelled the "Original US Broadcast track", it's a bit of a lie as it has the redubbed lines also seen in the Dub+Kikuchi score track and some different music placements.

Though if you just want it quickly and don't care with the way it looks etc, then you'll be alright with the Orange Bricks.

I clicked on this thread knowing this would be here. Well done.
I clicked on this thread knowing there would be at least five overreactions to an innocuous comment. Because, as we all know, if you just scream how annoying something is, it totally stops happening, and you don't become more annoying in the process.

Also, good point on the above poster for pointing out the redubbed lines on the Orange Bricks. They're not entirely connected to the score, but some of them are distracting. So, with that in mind, I would hunt down the singles.

There's nothing innocuous about making the same no-content post 4243 times. He adds literally nothing to the conversation. I think the dub is terrible and I'm still sick of him saying the same thing multiple times a day every day of the week.

I clicked on this thread again knowing that there would be at least one overreaction to your description of his comment as innocuous. Dragon Ball is life. This is serious business.

The best thing you can do is contribute to the conversation as best you can in as wonderfully a way as you can that represents to the community that YOU are a person who contributes great things.

And hey, if you happen to see a post that breaks the community rules, report it, rather than wasting a whole bunch of time and resources for a ton of people by talking about the talking. :)

They are from the Single DVD sets. Basically Funimation's very first release of the show besides VHS.

All of your images have lots of sharpening and compression artifacts, and half aren't the proper resolution.

Here are some proper comparisons:
Explosion of Anger:
Meet me in the Ring:
I dunno. outside of the Season Two episodes, I think the colors and clarity are nicer on the Orange Bricks, but the cropping and earlier on missing lines negate any other advantage the "remastered" footage may possess.

On a side note, I was collecting the singles for a short time, but they're so damn inconvenient that I've just decided to stick with the Orange Bricks for my nostalgia watching of the dub. They're good enough, and I have all of my DB/Z/GT Season Sets and Double Features in one huge binder.

Unless it's something to do with how Madman released the DVD's, I haven't done anything to the pictures themselves other than ripping them from their specific episodes.

Wow, so that's the PAL footage? I feel sorry for you guys. I didn't know they made the Season Sets look worse. Seriously, all of those screenshots look like they're from YouTube videos.

That just looks like photo compression. Try using VLC, and set it to export the screenshot to a png. There's no way either release looks that bad.

You'll have to give me some timecodes, it's 4am and I'm tired. Closest I could find for that first shot from the Dragon Box was this:

It's too late since I just got the screens, but you were overlooking because it was right at the beginning when it first shows Goku. :p
