Post by budokaifanatic007 » Sun Sep 01, 2013 7:46 pm

It puzzles me everyday when i play infinite world on why DIMPS has never made a REAL sequel to the budokai series?? Is there hope on the next gen consoles ?? :( share your thoughts and ideas.

Well, Burst Limit was meant to be a real sequel to the Budokai series but they toned down the complexity far too much and excluded all but a few key characters in their roster. You'd think that would have decreased sales but from the data I've found, it's the best selling current gen DBZ game. So, as for why they haven't made a sequel, who knows? Maybe they're tied up with their PC ports of Street Fighter games, perhaps they'd rather bring it out when they have a schedule opening that allows them to make something that truly rivals Budokai 3.

Yea i was discussing this with my friend, possibly they have thought out or somewhat developed a B3 sequel but they wont release it because the time isn't right. Hopefully they will think about releasing it on PS4.

Because unlike Spike, they had the sense to get out before their case of "exactly the same as last year we're totally burnt out"-itis (with optional "and now you can't even control it" STD) was too far advanced?

So you think they will come back to do a game on PS4 since DBZ games are lacking now???

I agree with this. Had they kept going. The games would have most likely gotten worst. Though I'll say they should make 1 DBSZ game every few years.

I still think that another Budokai sequel could be great. Burst Limit tried to be too different and ended up being average. If Burst Limit hadn't had such a broken ki system and didn't have those annoying Drama pieces it would have been a lot better. I daresay they could do better than Spikes recent efforts.

I guess Spikes is much cheaper then Spike or Burst Limit didn't meet the numbers as Bandai Namco hoped for.

The main answer is that Capcom brought them in to do Street Fighter IV.

Why work on licensed stuff when you can play with the big boys?

Despite it being a mediocre game at best, Burst Limit sold so well compared to the other current gen titles because it was the first HD DBZ game. The sales only kept decreasing because mediocre games kept coming out.

Dimps is working on Saint Seiya: Brave Soldier (PS3), Sonic Lost World (3DS), Ultra Street Fighter IV (well the game's pretty much done they just need to get the bonus content ready) and they're the ones behind the highly popular Japanese arcade game Dragon Ball Heroes which is far more lucrative to them than a yearly home console. Dimps has a lot on their hands now.

I doubt they'd come back to release a console game for the next-gen consoles (PS4, Wii U, XO) considering that the current developer is ARTDINK unless Namco Bandai tanks the whole thing and hires D for a new Budokai game. They could make a 3D fighting game for Dragon Ball, although it might not be very deep.

We could petition to them. the Budokai games sold like hot cakes back in the day so I'm sure there's a large audience for them, even today.

Because DBZ was hot back in the day.. Even if we got the so called perfect DBZ game it wouldn't sell as much as Budokai 3 or Tenkaichi 3 because most people have lost interest by this point.

Well with Battle of Gods coming around the corner in other countries, I'd say it's a perfect time to start that "perfect" Dragon Ball game.
