He's not the same as he was as a kid. Do you see him padding people's vagina or penis(s) to check their Gender? Nope. He has good intentions he just doesn't understand how the world works. Also he never abandoned his family. He protected them. He died for them. When he left with Oob. It is implied that he and Oob trained close to Mt.Ptazu(I think that's how you spell it). Never changes - Goku has changed. He doesn't touch the no no places no more. He's the average intelligent. In DB he just wanted to fight. In DBZ he protect and FIGHT. He come to understand human emotion. He learned about all types of evil.

Strongest - Goku is the best fighter but he's NOT the strongest. That right goes to Gohan,Vegetto, Whis, and Birsu

People mistake Goku for a bad person because they look at his failures and things that could be perceived as 'bad'.
Goku fights to protect his friends and family. His main goal is to become stronger. He doesn't neglect his family, but they aren't interested in fighting like he is, so he does his own thing. You make friends and spend time with people who have similar interests with you. As far as getting people killed...he felt it wasn't his place to kill Buu, so he decided to let the boys take care of him. He wouldn't always be there.
He fights for what he believes in, protects the people he loves, has a carefree attitude, he's a fun loving guy. Yes he's naive, but if you lived in the woods until you were 12 by yourself for the majority of the time, you'd probably be a little naive as well.
